sorted byThese are not network unlocked. They will only work with EE group sim cards. If they tell you differently in-store, then demand to try it out there and then with your sim card pre-purchase.
Their definition of sim free is not the same as everyone elses.

Don't forget you get a FREE wireless charging plate.
What I think the Nokia employee would have meant, was EE is the only carrier you can use to get 4G with the Lumia 920. That is true currently though next year will change when the other carriers get access to the 4G network. (Vodafones looks pretty promising!)
Anyway, legally Sim-Free does mean unlocked so you don't have to worry. The Phones4U guy confirmed to me yesterday I could use my O2 sim in the unlocked Lumia 920 so I'll just confirm that when I buy it again.
The 4G costs from EE are crazy. DO NOT GET LOCKED INTO A 24 MONTH CONTRACT WITH EE! Those prices are phenomenal and they can do it as they currently have a monopoly on 4G. In a few months when other providers start releasing their plans, you'll see a price war form. Get this Sim-Free, then get a Sim only 4G contract from another provider later down the line and you'll save money and get more data
YES! THANK YOU!!!
My store failed to get any in today, so this will do just fine
According to the instore advert it does, but I have no idea why online should be any different.
In the UK, at least, it's generally understood that 'SIM free' means it's unlocked to all networks. It's my understanding that selling 'SIM free', i.e. without a SIM or contract at point of sale, but locked to a particular network, is common in other countries, e.g. the US. Anyway, it's all to do with the exclusivity deals between Nokia/P4U/EE on the 920 and it's their own fault it's gone bottom over elbow and they'll have to deal with scores of annoyed customers thinking they're getting a real SIM free phone. Of course, phones can be unlocked, but the buzz is, like mattech says, they aren't playing ball - yet; It's their exclusivity deal they're protecting.
Most of the staff in most of the P4U stores and online support have no idea of this snafu and are providing incorrect advice/information to people buying SIM free handsets. I myself got mislead in an online chat.
In the defence of P4U staff, in the past the SIM free phones they've sold may have been unlocked to all networks, but the release of this new handset (920) has been polluted with underhand exclusivity deals and related last minute EE firmware updates (allegedly).
I'm voting with my feet and taking my money to Germany. I want a truely unlocked, brand-free, sim free Lumia 920, without having to mess around waiting for a network to grant me unhindered use of my own, unsubsidised, property.

Yeah from P4U.
Will post back on here and pm you once ive tested it.
You're incorrect.
Sim-Free is still locked in this case. I'm not saying the one from EE isn't locked, I'm saying it's Sim-Free.
So T-Mobile, Orange and EE sim's will work in the EE handset for £409.99. It's exactly the same handset as the £469.99 one from P4U.
It just means I have the effort of returning it to one store and re-purchasing the same thing from 2 doors down (if they have it in stock). Wish me luck
Yes you could, except for the white and Batman ones which were P4u exclusives.
It looks like red and yellow exclusive to P4U - white exclusive to buy from EE.

I went back to get a picture but they had taken the price down and put coming soon instead but mister.c. has provided us with proof instead.
I really want blue but no sign of that except in america
No its AT&T exclusive for now i think it wasnt a launch colour so i think its gonna be a while before it appears here
The same, im pretty **** off to be honest. I bought the Cyan purity over ear headphones and now I can't get one in that colour, just because I am in the wrong country.
I know AT&T have an exclusive but normally when they talk about exclusives they mean within a certain county not around the world as why does AT&T care if we can get it on contract over here?
Voted Cold.
And they are? Nothing comes close to the camera on this for a start. The Ativ s is close in price and while the 8X is cheaper its lower spec

True but even on the android side of things how many phones are there that are actually better? Its not a cheap phone but i think its specs show its a high end device and this is the sort of price high end phones get.
Clove are getting their HTC orders in on the 2nd and shipping Monday. So I think this is the in stock date for most of the handsets. If the Nokia wasn't available they would be shooting themselves in the foot. Having said that, Clove haven't got a price on that one yet so not confirmed by a long shot.
If that's the case then I hope Nokia are prepared for the **** that will descend upon them for advertising it as sim-free.
Sim-free means unlocked, and usable with any sim card that supports the frequencies available on the device. So even if you buy this from P4U, and it doesn't work on your non-EE sim, you can take it back easily enough. They wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
On the other hand, it could quite easily be EE's attempt to force customers onto a ridiculous contract. Given how awful their reputation is, I wouldn't put it past them.
Can see there being an uproar about it at some point if true. Especially when companies like Amazon make a lot of money from selling sim-free phones.
Ah good, I have nothing to worry about then Will be going over tomorrow to see if they have stock, although I'm not holding my breath.
EE could have gained so many customers by making their tarrifs reasonable. The 12 month contracts aren't too bad, but I think I'd cry myself to sleep every night seeing £51 come out of the bank every month for a phone contract.
There's a few more problems other than price. 4G will up-scale your downloads meaning the same iPlayer video will use less of your data package in 3G mode then it will in 4G mode. That means your data will get used faster, not because you're accessing more content, but because it up-scales and downloads content automatically in better quality.
I would severely recommend Sim Only deals with all 4G phones until June when the networks open up
Where did you hear that mate? Phones4u told me to call tomorrow morning so they can reserve me one...
