Hello jonnygrunter, welcome to HUKD.
CashBack works differently with each provider, but on the whole, you will end up sending one or more of your bills back to the CashBack Claims department of the company you bought your phone from at certain intervals and they will send you a cheque (or pay directly into your Bank Account) an amount of money.
When an offer you see here states you get 10 Months Cashback for example it means you get 10 Months worth of whatever your Monthly payment to the Operator would be (e.g. If you were paying £30 a month you'd get 10 x £30 back).

Someone asked almost the same question today in one of duckmagicuk2's other Mobile Phone Deals and he put quite an extensive reply, if I find it I'll put the link here, but just have a quick look in the forums.

Nice post Ducky, welcome to Hukd's Jonnygrunter :-D

No problem jonnygrunter, I hope you found the information useful, as well as duckmagicuk2's post.
