word of warning people, unless you are going to sell this phone on ebay to make a profit it is really not worth it.
Both my girlfriend and I have had this phone and it restarts when on a call or turns off at random even with the latest firmware from Nokia not to mention the 2 replacements that i had and the 3... yes 3 that she had!

run away from symbian nokia's!
I had always loved Nokia though.
#4
Can this phone be unlocked online for free? Thanks
#5
I have had mobiles since they came out !! This has been the best phone i have ever owned, i have had it now 17 months and the only phone i would upgrade to is the N95

I have an N70 and it does the same. N series seems so slow! My friend has a 6300 (which is 2G) and its soooo much faster. Id get one of those next time.

If you want a fast Symbian try 6120, cam not as high spec(2mp) but a very fast phone with good specs and is very small for a symbian. £99.99 for an N73 is very good. Unlocking might be a problem though think the only way is to pay the Network (£15?). My N80 is a tortoise compared to my old 6680

no because its a bb5 nokia.

you would have to get the code from the network or find a shop with a nokia bb5 unlock box

:-D

hi. i agree with danuk i have had three replacement n73 phones.when i'm on a call. the phone comes up saying connection error, sometimes it freezes..:-(this is putting me off from getting another nokia phone.

Apart from the horrendously poor Moto e1000, this is the worst phone without a doubt. It is slow and buggy. It's only saving grace is the camera, which is fab. I would avoid if I were you...
#13
Very tempted by this.
Not sure what BB5 means, but can't the bloke down the local market unlock these then?
#14
I had this phone and recently upgraded, Never suffered from the restarting problem. Its a really good phone well recomended

to convert this to Music Edition, download...

(NSU) Nokia Software Updater http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163

(NSS) Nemesis Service Suite http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/files/NSS/NSS103812.zip

get a new product code for your phone http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53992

I used 0539239: N73 Music Edition - Vanilla - EURO 2 (Black)

connect your phone to the PC, PC suite mode, and start NSS
click on "Phone Info"
under Production Data Edit select Enable for "Product Code"
click Read, and make a note of your code (important)
enter the new product code in the box and click "write"

now run NSU, scan for new firmware and install, it will install the latest v4 music edition...
Warning: if you disconnect or the phone goes flat it will become a brick

once it's flashed with new firmware change the product code back to it's original or Nokia PC Suite may not recognise it

next...

(from Nokia site)

follow the next six steps to re-configure the phone with the correct settings for your operator:

Settings Wizard
On the phone press the Menu key.
Scroll to and select Tools.
Scroll to and select Sett. wizard to launch the Nokia Settings Wizard.
Scroll to and select Operator.
Follow the wizard's on screen steps to automatically configure the phone with the required operator service settings.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 of the Settings Check above to verify that the settings are now working correctly.

buy a set of music edition headphones AD-41, had mine from e-b-a-y username muhbil06, and that's it

(sorry if that last bit isn't allowed)

Done :-D

My N73 is really rubbish and my mates is just as bad. Buttons fall off, the camera stops working, it turns itself off if you have a missed call etc etc.

When it does work the camera is great though

I got the N95 8GB free on contract this week. I can highly recommend the N series.
#18
I unlocked my BB5 N70 using a dku cable (you cant use the cable supplied to do it) and freely available software on the web. The old days of BB5s not being unlockable are over thankfully ;)
#19
nice price, one thing i have noticed that most new nokia phones have some kind of problem but these improve over time when newer firmware is released, you can update your phones firmware for free by downloading a programme called 'nokia software updater' and using the lead supplied with your phone. it is very, very easy to update the firmware and solve some of these problems

unfortunately some of the network operators are VERY slow to update the firmware, my Orange phone was v3 January 07 it's now generic v4 September 07

that only works on the older bb5 nokias such as the

* Nokia 6630
* Nokia 6680
* Nokia 6681
* Nokia E60
* Nokia E65
* Nokia E70
* Nokia N70
* Nokia N71
* Nokia N90
* Nokia N91
* Nokia N93

they can if they have a bb5 (base band 5) unlock box

Ah that explains why I could unlock my N70. I stand corrected - but someone said at the start of this thread it couldnt be unlocked "because its BB5". Thats wrong as some BB5s can be unlocked.

if you are talking about my post stating it cant be unlocked, thats because they wanted to know if it could be done for free

I think its hit and miss really with the N73. I know somebody never has problems with it and they've installed all sorts of amazing applications on it, not to mention TomTom. You need to obviously get a GPS receiver to use that.

I'm not sure the N95 is any better a lot of people have complained about its battery life for a start. I suppose one advantage is the built-in GPS.

I think its a good price for this phone, it will probably drop prices on ebay too.

How do the buttons fall off? Mine has been abused and it's been excellent. :?

Runs TomTom very nicely too :thumbsup:

N73 is the best phone ive had by a mile, no problems with it at all, tom tom sat nav runs like a dream on it as does slingbox, im due for an upgrade but nothing else id swap it for, highly recommended
#27
certainly a hit or miss product then :(
I'm guessing a few thousand of us were unlucky and got a ***** batch...

Yep I unlocked mine using an old DKU cable I had lying around (from my old 6100) You cant use the CA cable that comes with the phone though, so you may have to buy the DKU cable. I dont have time to find the program right now as Im off to work but have a look on these forums, thats how I found out it could be done and downloaded the software.

I think the people who just want a phone will think it slow and annoying but the people after a smartphone with tomtom and thousands of games and applications will love it.

I love mine i cant go back to just having a just "phone"
#30
I've had this phone about 8 or 9 months and it has been excellent, changed the product number on it and flashed it to the Music Edition firmware and it has been solid since. Runs TomTom, is my mp3 player, never had any of the crashing people talk about, don't think it's actually been turned off for a few months.

Good point but on all the N series phones ive used (including my own) just opening messages takes 3-4 seconds, whilst its bearable, when you use a non-smart phone which does it in 0.5 seconds you begin to wonder if your phone is really so "smart".

Thanks for sharing this. I have just purchased it, considering the price range elsewhere is from > 150. I am planning to take it to India. Hope to unlock at there.

Trust me when I say to unlock these phones requires expensive equipment (expensive when I bought it a few months ago anyway) and take my advice and DO NOT give it to unlock to any cowboy as to unlock these phones you need to dismantle it completely and the only way to unlock after that is to put a pin under the CPU of the phone (called unlocking via test point). And to get there u need at least x20 magnify microscope !!

I unlock BB5 phones of nearly all variation a lot and some are easy and some are not

Good luck :)

PS This is an excellent deal and just with everything in life some people will have a few faults with their's and some won't - thats why you have Nokia Service Centre's for :)

No idea whta this phone is like but I've had the n95 for over two months now and I must say I am not happy with it.

It can be an annoying phone. For example, the battery life is quite poor even after a firmware update. To be honest it's quite chunky. Browsing the net is cool and it's nice to have wi-fi however it struggles to connect if you're a little out of range.

Added to this the interface is not very intuitive. The camera is good but having such an expensive phone is a pain if you don't have insurance.

Also when it locks, the screen goes dark so you can't see what to press to unlock it.

And when you put it in your pocket, sometimes it slides open, unlocks itself and possibly makes a call.
#39
got one of these camera is great, have latest tomtom and loads of games no complaints here bit slow at times though
#40
cool phone! had it since day one and no problems what so ever, so if you want one go get it!

as for unlocking, dont listen to all the hype its dead easy. google is your friend:thumbsup:
