Yep - took my n98 in for repair at Nokia Cambridge and had a play with their office model.

oh and for your hard earned cash you don't even get an hdmi cable to connect to tv!
#5
only voting cold coz it's on Orange....

you can still get same price on Tesco, if you buy the phone payg for £330 and using the £10/month sim only 500mins, ultd txt, 500mb...ends up £510 with much better coverage and at least not tied for 18months.... probably cashback from Tesco too???!! (not sure)

AFAIK, N8 itself is brilliant....been with the E-series for a long time, but now migrated to android (temporarily)... only thing it lacks (IMO) is a qwerty keyboard, which is there in the E7, but with the drawback of a 8mp camera instead of 12.....

The guy that worked on the camera for this phone has put full 12mp shots on flickr.

I would suggest looking at these (view all sizes, original) before saying the phone is vastly over rated:

Apart from the Camera even the Standard Desire is a better phone...

Your seriously a little crazy if you go for this phone over all the great options that you can get at the moment. It's ugly as sin too boot as well.

Neither, have a play with the Samsung S.This phone is smart with a smidgeon of genius.
#16
Id avoid this due to being on Orange since they've started messing about merging with T-mobile my phone is signal is very unstable dropping calls and trouble getting txts to send through, There is now a Orange T-mobile networks to select but there's only very slow internet speed then and my phone seems to go back to standard Orange after a while.
#17
Not voting hot or cold, just know one thing - seriously disillusioned with Nokia after getting the shambles that was the N97 - never getting another Nokia would be too soon !

Agreed. Can't think of any reason to go for this over iPhone, Android or Winmo7, unless you are a slave to specs, which is a pretty crap reason tbh. Nokia have seen their smartphone profits plummetting recently, be interesting how long they persist with Symbian/Ovi etc. Surely can't be much longer.
#19
@Throttle you are only meant to have tmobile signal until orange is stronger, only 2g is available when u flip to tmobile, but 3g will be available in the new year, u can call and have the tmobile connectivity removed if u wish

i did look look at the samsung but ive instantly dismissed it due to no flash available

Between the HTC and Samsung i'd look at who gets the updates out quicker and who tends to flick the V's to customers and refuse to update their "older" android models (not that either company are perfect in that regard)

often astounds me how ppl go crazy and can justify spending over 1/2 grand on a phone...

Looked at those photos, quality is great for a cameraphone though. In this day and age though, seems like everyone replaces their phones every year or two.

Frankly, I'm much happier with my San Fran and a seperate DSLR. Not gonna vote either way

I agree in that respect. Looking at free handset only deals. The camera is a bonus and wouldn't ever think of pulling it out on a night out, not the phone anyway!
And dismissing a phone because of no flash, camera phone flashes are so weak anyway you aren't missing much.
The reviews on the Galaxy s and the upcoming Froyo update have me swayed.
Are the cash back claims so bad? Anyone used them? Also is Orange so bad?

not everyone (like me) carries a digital camera around though

Have it now (N8-00) and had for two weeks.

Very solid phone with a great camera. Last Nokia i used was 5800 and this is a 'proper' device.

Next version should be cheaper/have manufacturing improvements but unlikely have a camera this good – I believe they really splash out on it. Even that protruding design adaptation speaks volumes.

Agree that it needs if not undercut, but be much closer to Galaxy/Desire to stand a chance but purely due to a delay to the market. Feature-wise this is the best one out there. And do not tell me there is not enough staff on OVI - it has everything you need - Opera/Skyfire, Skype/Fring, maps with extras, and all silly apps/games you may want.

Those photos are interesting. They suggest a much bigger sensor and bigger aperture than I'd have expected on that phone.

The depth of field (or lack of it) is more in keeping with a DSLR fairly wide open that something with a small lens aperature/sensor.

Maybe they've had some post production done.

At the moment, Symbian is behind the other OSs aesthetically, but I think Nokia will have a bloody good chance of giving some serious competition to the others with MeeGo releasing next year.

THis is only a 660mhz processor - same as the wildfire

I've had this phone for just over two weeks now. Before I was on a Nokia e71, and the interface hasn't really changed much, although the new home screens do look quite good. However, in terms of usability and apps, the iPhone and Android Phones beat it hands down, and the new Windows 7 phones will too.

Having said that though, you are getting loads of features and functionality in a phone, and its cheaper than the iPhone. Camera quality is amazing, like what many have said. The screen is really bright and good quality too; I've been watching movies on it, and the sound quality coming out is excellent. GPS is fast to lock on, and using the OVI Maps is easy, although I still prefer Google Maps.

Its just a pity the software (Symbian ^3) is so crap. And its still unsure if there will be many apps for the Symbian platform going forwards, as most developers are not going to bother developing for all 4 mobile platforms.

I like the N8, superb camera. I would get this if I didn't own an iPhone4. Voted HOT!!!
#35
had signed up for this deal a week ago.

whether you like the phone or not is down to personal taste. I am sure anyone spending money on higher end phones does their research and finds one that fits their bill.

in terms of contracts this is by far and away the best price for an 18 month contract

that is just wrong, calling someone an idiot (note the spelling) and using the wrong grammar (note you're) is truly an epic failure (note my grammar is also poo).

What you said is not exactly correct, Orange is still using its own network coverage and not T-mobiles. If you don't get signal from one (Orange) it will automatically switch to the other (T-mobile).

Deal seems good to me, price plan doesn't look too expensive

THis is only a 660mhz processor - same as the wildfire

Don't be so easily swayed. First the Symbian O/s for all its lack of bells and whistles is very efficient and runs fast on lesser spec hardware. Second this is the only o/s out there that uses hardware acceleration so alot of the graphics work is pushed onto the GPU.

But I won't be buying as I am waiting for a Meego powered handset from Nokia.

Rich. that would have been a more useful comment if you actually said which was which.
Which one is slower? Reason I ask, I have a Samsung and an HTC phone on my Windows Phone 7 shopping list. Samsung Omnia 7 on O2 or HTC Mozart on Orange. (Orange thing is putting me off. Typically hideous branding)

Me too, mate! I have high hopes for MeeGo. The prototype N9 looks pretty damn awesome.
