The Nokia N800 is built to be constantly in use. Internet calling, instant messaging and email keep you in touch with friends and family. With stereo audio, media support and new ergonomic design the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a portable Internet entertainment device; you will enjoy streamed or downloaded content free away from fixed location.

Building on the success of the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet, the Nokia N800 introduces faster performance, full screen finger qwerty keyboard, easier continuous connections through Wi-Fi or via Bluetooth phone, integrated web camera as well as a new elegant design.

Like its predecessor, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is based on Nokia's desktop Linux based Operating System. The Maemo development platform was launched in 2005 to provide Open Source developers with the tools and opportunities to create innovative applications for use on Nokia's Internet Tablets. Users of the Nokia N800 will be able to benefit from a wide range of third party applications.

I ended up cancelling my order for the N 770 with Play and getting it from elsewhere. Not sure I trust them to supply these at this price either, but great price if you can get them.
#2
Maybe worth mentioning in the initial post - Due for release on 30/10/2007 - pre order for the units, will Play have them available for dispatch on the above date? definately a good price.
#3
good price, thought these were already released tho?

that was the previous model N770

No, the 800 is old also.

New N810 out next month with latest 2008 OS, Keyboard and inbuilt GPS with Nokia Maps.
#6
These are already released and have been for some time. It's the new model - n810 -with integrated GPS, Flash capability etc. that will be released in the next few weeks. I think there will be a few price drops on this model becuase of that.
#7
At least the 800 can be upgraded to 08 OS, unlike the N770, so worth considering if price right.
banned#8
Yeah we all know it's been released already, but you won't find that price anywhere else.

onelife99 didn't!

Like I said, it's a good price. Usually around £200 if I'm not mistaken.
#10
I don't see the point in these, but appreciate that this is a less expensive option :)

I am slowly weaning myself off of constant net access...
#11
Just as i get used to a gadget something better comes along ...

Just confirmed that it works with the Navicore Sat Nav add on i just bought for my 770 so have ordered one.

£239 on Amazon :w00t:
#13
Hot. Ordered. Don't forget 2% Quidco (£3).

Hope this arrived - I held off on the N770 because of the new N810 coming out. The N800 offers quite a bit more than the N770...

(N800 still £280 on Expansys, expecting stock 31 Oct :) )
#14
if this drops closer to £100, I'll buy.

Did this model ever suffer from WSOD?
#15
My N770 is on its way back to PLAY due to WSOD. Anyone know whether WSOD affects the N800 in the same way it hit the N770?

Thanks
#16
good price, HOT HOT HOT
#17
i think this price is going to be round for a while and other suppliers following suit

few reviews
#18
but its not a fone as well ?
#19
not a phone Mr Jolly, just an attachment...a bloody good one though!

Silly Chip: I hope you havent had it longer than 28 days as PLAY only offer a 28 day returns policy - I have been stung by them, and now I only use them for t shirts and media - No electricals.

Good Luck!
#21
Well worth £150 of anyones money, especially with the new 2008 OS, with its alpha compositing for the interface and improved applications.

Note the new 810 has the same cpu/ram as the 800 but loses the dual SD slot, in favour of additional fixed memory and an external mini-SD slot. The only benefit of the 810 is the keyboard (the onscreen keyboard is sufficient) and the built in GPS (who doesn't have satnav now?!)

£150 = bargain. Get one! Especially when you can use it with media software from http://openbossa.indt.org/canola/index.html

EDIT: wrong Canola link above now fixed :)

Hmmm, I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. PLAY have a 28 day returns policy on basic products such as DVD's Music CD's.....basically if it becomes scratched through use, then it's past the returns stage.

As for ELECS, anything that does go wrong, they will accept the return, or refer you to the Manifacturer. Most Electrical items will come with a 1 year guarantee. I've ordered mine, and it becomes faulty within the 1st year i'll be going straight to Nokia.
#23
Can you please link to the play t&c that states they will accept the return after 28 days, I can't find it.
#24
Hi folks.

Would this give me wireless access to internet on the move?

Would like a portable device to log on to the net whilst on the move.

Does this do the trick?

Thanks in advance!

Line 30 in Liability

All electrical products are covered by a twelve month manufacturer's warranty. If your product develops a fault while under warranty, please contact Play.com and we will advise you where to send it for repair. It is a "return to base" warranty therefore there will be a delivery charge to return the product back to the relevant UK service centre.

Yep, I'm aware of the maemo "garage" ... but the Canola media software is worth its weight in, errm, expensive rare things that are really light lol.

Also, it's worth pointing out to anyone interested that Nokia will be supporting the N800 and N810 side by side with the same software - the hardware is identical except for the GPS, keyboard and slight changes to the memory / memory cards
#28
Does either the 800 or the 810 have office document support?
#29
I haven't voted but IMHO it might be a good price, but it's not a steal - with the new 810 the prices are bound to drop!

Please don't flame me - I'm not saying this is a bad deal!
#30
Cool, Just ordered 1. Let's hope they deliver it :)

Don't think it will go much lower than £150 (maybe £130 at some point in the future).

Got a Maxell Class 4 4GB SC HC card for £18 too :)
#31
tradestar: cheers, as I said play dont accept returns after 28 days. When my Western Digital Drive died on me I had to send it to the nearest service centre (Germany) at a cost of £30 (half the price of the drive)
#32

Dunno which courier you used for that but last time i sent something to germany it cost me £12 with RM, and was both heavier and larger than an external hdd...
#33
ahh what the hell.

Since I missed out on the Sony Vaio UX1XN and both my Amazon and Expansys N770s suffered from WSODs, I'll give this one a try. Well, I can cancel between now and 30th, if I see a better offer elsewhere

No - the hardware is NOT the same!!!

n810 will be released with TI OMAP 2420 @ 400 MHz

Also 2GB internal memory vs. 256 (I believe) for the n800

I'm sure there are other differences as well...
#35
Hi,
couple of questions:

1. Can this be loaded with TomTom software and used as GPS?
2. What's the max memory capacity?

The processor is the same (though maybe clocked a little faster) - check out the maemo developer blogs for clarification.

The internal fixed 2gb replaces the internal SD slot (where most people put a 2Gb SD card) - hence my original post detailing these differences (along with a change to the external slot). Everything else is the same!

I believe you can have gps, but don't know what software you can use though. (Doing a quick google search I've found this navicore

As It has 2 slots I think you can have 2x8GB if you want to. I've bought a 4GB for mine as I think that's enough for playing around.

Thanks for that. If it can be loaded with TomTom or alternative software I would go for. Any more info on this would be great!
