Nokia N800 price drop on Play £129.99

I ordered a Nokia N800 just days ago since they finally had them in stock at £150 rather than pre-order. Now they have dropped to £129 delivered and are still saying in stock.
Just wish I'd waited a week Grrrr....

First post, hope this works....

email them and say you are going to return it under the distance selling regulations unless they refund the difference. If they refuse, return it and buy again at the cheaper price

Can't believe they did this! Mine arrived today after I preordered it around a month ago. Thankfully I cancelled that preorder to use the 10% off voucher and got it for £135, so only missed out on a fiver. Still annoying though, given that it only arrived in stock 2 days ago for £150. Anyway, looks to be a great bit of kit. Free upgrade to the 2008 OS courtesy of Nokia.

I am interested in this if I can read PDF books on it. How easy is it to read text on this screen, because I'm not sure. I'm thinking may be you can download webpages (news and other stuff) and read it in offline mode while on the train to work.

I'm wondering how this will compare to Asus EEEPC701, apart from the size obviously.:)

thanks very much.
ordered. (i had this preordered when its was £150 and cancelled when they put the date back for the 2nd time, so my annoyance paid dividends)

xXx , i think it can read pdfs out of the box, but theres also some free third party software for it for ebooks which looks quite promising. http://beans.seartipy.com/2007/09/02/nokia-n800-as-an-ebook-reader-using-fbreader/

Thank god i used the 10% off or i'd be kicking myself

Been playin with mine for a little while but its kinda lame that the software download site is pretty much dead at the moment

poof! mine arrived today opened the pack opened play.con on the N800 and saw it was 129.99 couldent belive my eyes.
20 quid cheaper. its worth that money.
It ships with Edition 2007 version 4.2007.38-2 but nokia provide the 2008 upgrade thankfully.

Yes it will read .pdfs straight from the box . I bought the 770 in July from Play for £69 and that does too. Theres some good third party software for these to from the Maemo site .Contacts ,calendar , mapping software and the like .
Worth a look and worth buying the newer model.

The site is just getting too many hits right now with the latest software update just being released.

There are plenty of mirrors up now to download from, try this one.

I wonder if play have a lot to sell because people cancelled preorders because they were taking too long to get in stock, so now have to sell them cheaper? I know I'm one of the preorder cancellers, after 2 months I gave up waiting and bought something else... now it's dropped £20 I kind of wish I'd waited now!

Remember these words, still ringing in the air, sent to all faithful N800 pre-order customers.

"Again we apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and valued custom."

Quite how sincere that apology was, and how much they value our patience and custom, is now painfully clear.
#13
wow.. i didnt even bother preordering it from before..
they really are playing with us now...

do i buy now, or wait a week till its down to £99 hmmm...

can you get a gps navigation kit for the n800?

Mine arrived yesterday and it has the infamous power switch problem. I was going to return it for replacement, but now I will just return for refund and re-order at the lower price.

Now just have to workout how to get an RMA. When I follow the procedure on the website, the list of items if offers for return does not include this one. Is there an email address that I am just not seeing, or do I need to phone them on the sales number?

Cheers for the post
im off down PC World in a min to get them to price match it plus the 10% i should get it for around the £115 mark

I'm interested, but worried about play.com being in Jersey. Should I expect to get charged VAT and courier's customs charges? (Guess around an extra £30). Is it a UK model? If it goes wrong what would I have to do?

I've used a n800 at work and like it so much I want to get one for my own use. The Nokia software is only the tip of the iceberg: there's loads of free open-source software available - add repositories from the list at http://www.gronmayer.com/it/
#22
How do you get an additional 10% off then?
#23
Its just pc worlds price match policy. match the price and give you 10% of the difference and seeing as the difference between pc world and play is £150 that should be another £15 off

As long as they have stock, which none of my local ones have. The web site shows the N800 as "unavailable", although they do list it bundled with an Advent PC headset at an over inflated price (but with no stock showing locally). No doubt that bundle allows them to weedle out of the price match as Play's offer is not of the exact same "product".

can it play normal realplayer video files i.e. ram, ra.?

Just phoned pc world - they claim price matches are store-dependant. Ipswich store does price match play.com, but was out of stock.

I posted about an hour ago with a question about import taxes and recommending a link listing open source n800 software repositories and it disappeared. Did I do something wrong? Does anyone know what the situation is with paying VAT etc on imports seeing as play is based in Jersey?

There are two different price match pages at the PC World website.

This one doesn't match Play

This one does (and gives a further 10% off

My understanding is that the price includes VAT on anything over £18 that they ship within the EU. That's why they (and HMV, 7dayshop etc.) are cheaper for DVDs, CDs and small gadgets as these are usually under £18. It's also why they are very restrictive about to which countries they will ship higher priced goods (i.e. Electronics/Gadgets).

can you get a gps navigation kit for the n800?

You can, but be aware that Navigon Personal 2007 for Internet Tablets, supplied with the kit, hasn't been updated to work on OS2008. This is mainly because OS2008 already includes Wayfinder for the N810 GPS.

The concession is that your Navigon 2007 registration code will activate the navigation subscription in Wayfinder (which I think runs for 3 years), so you still have a functional system, just using different software.

pcworld Bristol (Cribs) matched it for me. Would not give the extra £15 off though but I'm a happy bunny!

None showing in stock to reserve. Did you see the stock numbers online or instore?
#37
checked the 10 stores near me, no stock. It says comes with an advent headset. Wonder if thats so they can get out of the match as then its a 'different bundle'?

Anyways, well done to anyone who gets pcworld to match :) Makes it much easier to return for whatever reason.
