Saw this yesterday and seems like one of the better deals for the N97 minutes, texts and internet wise, plus you do get the handset for free, possible £50 quidco on top of that. 18 month contract.

Why You Should Buy the Nokia N97!

* The 3.5", 360x640 pixel resolution, 16:9 touchscreen capable of displaying 16 million colours.
* A 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss lensed camera with dual-LED flash.
* Built-in Assisted GPS and digital compass for precise locations within Nokia Maps.
* A huge 32GB of internal memory, plus a MicroSD expansion slot, potentially taking it to 48GB!
* Symbian S60 5th Edition is the operating system of choice.

I know that it is expensive but consider the amount of mins, texts and net you get with the deal and the type of handset before voting cold.

edit: as an additional note it is possible to still use the £45 voucher which is attached and along with possible quidco there is a potential £95 cashback!

Having made my mind up that I wanted a black N97 (yes I know about the outdated operating system and bugs before latest firmware update) I have been looking at deals every day for past few weeks. This is the best deal at the moment for these and I have ordered one from your link through Quidco. I am currently on O2 and don' t want an iphone (not knocking iphone, good phone but not for me N97 is just my personal preference). Also wanted new number to get rid of stalkers haha (didn't ask me for Pac code come to think of it). OP is probably best around at time of posting. Hot. Ordered through Quidco so should get £50 back too. Thanks.

i also wanted an iphone but the tariffs and price of the handsets has put me off and i've always been a big N series fan and after having a play with one of these earlier in the week i've decided to take the plunge as well after spending hours trawling the net for deals this is definately the best one (considering instore at phones4u will charge u £100 unless u trade in an old N series for the handset and want either 35 a month over 24 months or 40 over 18. this way i get cashback from quidco and sell my n73 for 60 quid. result!

Wicked deal, will definitely be getting this.

terrible phone.

Unless you've got an iphone, in which case this is a marked improvement.
#10
Be sure to read review of this phone, and consider carefully the umber of firmware changes that nokia has had to apply to get this device to function.
#11
Surely if they've already applied the firmware changes then it isn't an issue? Why would you discount the phone based on what it used to be like?
#12
get an htc!!

yeah its had its problems but dont most phones when they come out and it is an improvement on any handset apart from an iphone, which are stupidly overpriced on terrible contracts.
#14
awesome deal, great phone from what i've seen, but you don't really find the bad things unless you own one i guess.

I might have to get this now even though i still have a few months of my other contract left..

As someone who has had an N97 from day one I would have to semi concur here. I have been totally underwhelmed with the N97. I got it with the Sky Sports package and unlimited internet for £35 from Vodafone but the 3.5g coverage is sporadic at best and it absolutely destroys the battery although it is impressive when it works. Its the same old story with a N Series phone though, if you use the phone for anything at all other than calls, like internet it has to be charged every night or it WILL die on you the next morning

The Ovi store managed to charge me multiple times for the same apps and it took weeks of wrangling with them to get my money back.

However, my biggest gripe of all is when you are using the phone to actually make a call depending on how you hold the phone to your ear you can inadvertenly put someone on hold or cut them off altogether if your ear brushes any of the buttons. Its extremely annoying when it happens.

I wanted an N97 for so long but now that I have one I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Get an iPhone if you want a good touchscreen.

As well as just the monthly cost in the deal, I think all mobile phone contract deals should state the full price of the contract in the opening post. So £630 in this case, before any cashback.

Orange may well let you do this.

If not, you can number juggle to get around it. Get hold of a payg sim (there are quite often free ones available, they'll be listed on here somewhere if there are any around at the moment) on a different network, then transfer your number from the Orange sim only contract to the payg sim, then a few days later transfer your number from the payg sim to the new Orange contract.

thanks for that, i was wondering how to get around that as orange don't allow you to port your number from one orange contract to another apparently

isnt this a better deal

Thank you so much for this.. Will do it today hopefully.. I think now i will have to immediately post my 5800 (that hasnt arrived yet) up for sale..
#23
yep...this above deal is a cheaper...albeit a bit more risky way..of doing it.

still this is a hot deal.
#24
I think this is a good deal based on the maths.

£35 * 18 = £630

- £50 quidco

Sell the N97 for between £350 and £400 on ebay, say £350 in pocket after fees.

£630 - (£350 + £50) = £230

£230 / 18 = £12.77 per month

If you're a recently cancelled orange customer like me thanks to bitterwallet/MSE for the article on early cancellation due to the web browsing increase, and already have a decent phone (I have the N96 from november last year) then £12.77 a month for 1200 mintues, unlimited internet and unlimited texts is pretty good don't you agree?

agree with all that - so close and such good specs on paper but the crap touch scree nand poor software just completely let it down.

The Samsung jet is what I'm currently recommending over an iPhone if you cant get/afford that.
#26
i agree, i just dont understand why nokia develop a pretty decent phone (hardware) and then install god awful software on it. isnt it about time they developed a better OS than symbian?

after toying around with one of these i've decided to go for the htc hero. just need to find a good deal....

....or i could wait until the end of september and get an iphone 3g from either orange or t-mobile.....hmmmmm

I too have had the N97 from day one, and find it to be an absolutely awesome phone, excellent for browsing the web on the move, I'm with 3 so my 3g coverage is pretty good in London, the Wi-Fi functionality is excellent, when I was in the states recently I was able to connect to free wi-fi and make free Skype calls

BAttery life is pretty good, especially considering that I hammer the web and wi-fi

I have to agree. I purchased mine offline from a friend for £100 (he was skint!) and think it's an amazing phone.

I don't like touch screen for emailing or text so the keyboard is a welcome addition. I use it with O2 (on the latest firmware) and I have had no trouble with it at all. Great for watching movies, music, games, web surfing, etc.

Always get a good 3.5g signal in London and no problem hooking onto free wifi when at fiends to save mu usage. Since I got this, I rarely use my NC10!

I'm with you, Android is the only OS I'm considering from here on out or mods based on it.

The iPhone is for rich people and the N97 is for techies that somehow haven't heard of the G1 and its new family

Being a N97 owner from day one also, i have been VERY unhappy with the phone from day one. I chose to stick with it thinking its just getting used to a new phone is all thats wrong. But how wrong have i actually been? SImple things like a clock screensaver are missing, the vibrate on the phone is practically non existent! The operating system is more or less the same symbian version as you would find on your very first Nokia, only with more options to play with, some options that you take for granted on phones how ever arent included. All in all a complicated phone to set up and manage. Instruction manual isnt much help to be honest and i have found myself on nokia forums most days since i got the thing along with hundreds of others. Charging the device IS a daily thing, sticking it on overnight is a must if you want to make sure you wont be left with a dead battery at the end of the day. Ive found that even with all the fancy things off and just using for texting and 2-3 short calls i can go two days without a charge. Im on orange and currently paying £44 pm for what although is a good contract, just a really poor phone which is ment to be Nokia's flagship device, not something that requires update's straight after its purchase, and at that, still requires further updates to fix its bugs. In all honesty chose any other phone but this one. As a phone its great, if only it could be formatted and another operating system installed in it then i would have no desire to sell it and buy a customer friendly phone like the iphone.

course not, thats why the rating was 4 out of 5 for it as shown by the link on the gadget show website. the iphone is the best handset, no arguements there, however it is a hell of a lot more expensive than this and only available on O2

I'd disagree the iPhone is the best, because It's the most expensive phone here in the UK with the worst call plan and running costs, has no real keyboard (if that's important to you) and the hardware and software has been matched by other phones. The competition has caught up and Apple just looks overpriced in comparison.

All the iPhone really has going for it at the moment is a huge collection of the best apps. There is this big danger that it could go the way of DirectX and become a closed developer platform that everyone codes for, excluding all other phones from getting "ports" of the best apps. I think its still too early to call that and apps for other phones are starting to appear in numbers. The iPhone has a big head start there so it makes the competition look weak with their new software catalogs.

If money is no object, the iPhone is a great smart phone that's got the cream of software developers working on it, but even the humble old G1 could be considered better, easy to unlock, with a real keyboard, updated OS that really brings it up to par, a great price and a growing list of apps.

Nokia isn't even in the race with this phone, great tech + garbage software = rubbish phone.

it does depend what your after in the handset though as the g1 has a poor camera, no video calling, only available on t-mobile, smaller, lower resolution screen, no headphone jack, and if it does go wrong it will have to be sent off. the only thing going for the g1 is the android software really

For 1st generation, the G1 is pretty good but I agree it has its flaws also. The G2 is much better but the price isn't there for it yet.

I think possibly I'm just jealous I can't afford an iPhone so look for reasons to put it down :) but I do love the open nature of Android, I'd rather support that. For example google voice isn't going to be allowed on the iPhone but anything can be run on Android. I don't like the idea of any manufacturer telling me what software I can and can't run. Imagine being told you couldn't visit hotukdeals because Apple says its in conflict with their own similar service where you have to pay to read about the deals.

hi, this is my first post an would just like to thank you for putting this deal on. i got this phone from phones 4 u a few days ago on orange dolphin 45 but only paying 40 quid a month and paying 50 quid for the phone on an 18 month contract. when i saw this i was a bit gutted so took it back to them today quoting this deal. by swapping to this deal i would have saved myself £110, told them this and they are now sending me a cheque for £100! so i mite be a tenner down but it saves me getting another new number and waiting for nu phone result, am very happy!

i will admit that i am the same with regards to the iphone and as much as i liked the g2 (so much i nearly brought one over the n97) i liked having a proper keypad still, along with a half decent camera. hopefully the ovi store will improve over the coming months and firmware updates will help to sort out the glitches on the n97 (still waiting for mine as wasn't going to be in today to get it).

glad to hear it! i wish they did the same for me, went in saying about this deal and they weren't having any of it. wasn't a fan of the deal either as you had to trade in an old N series to get the handset for free, but i'd rather envirofone it and get 60quid towards the line rental bills!

Ordered on sunday, delivered yesterday, very pleased with the deal I got. Phone is as I imagined/understood from having a quick play in a shop last week, watching youtube demos and reading pages upon pages of reviews online.

Not a fan of touch screen so wanted kick out keyboard and I find the N97 flip out suits me perfectly. First thing I did was I updated to latest firmware before doing anything else and software has so far been fine. Not really had a browse of Ovi store much, just used a handful of apps, all which work well (Facebook, Nimbuzz for Facebook chat, Accweather), but I know and accept app store is not as good as the one for the iphone. Battery life is low, but have been on it non stop since I got it so not a true benchmark yet.

Great deal, and a phone that suits me very well. Managed to lock it when trying to set up pin code so had to phone orange for PUK and they were actually very quick and helpful! Whereas the phone is not to everyone's taste, for those who it does suit, this deal is hot.
