My first post and i think this one is worth posting,

Free White Nokia N97 on Vodafone, £25 per month, 18 Months Contract, 600 any network minutes, 3000 texts from Phones4u!

So no matter what your opinions are on the N97, you can't say that this is not a good deal for an N97. Anyways you guys can decide for yourselves if its hot or not!

For those who want more info on the N97 and the deal, here's the link:

Edit: Oh and dont forget £40 Quidco!

Should mention in title that its a clearance phone, otherwise its misleading. Good deal.
#2
Looks like a good price :)

Phone sells on eBay for £300+ (White / Locked to Vodafone). Assuming yours goes for £300, without fees thats £270.

£25 x 18 months = £450.

£450 - £270 = £180

£180 / 18 months = £10 per month.

Not bad!

If you go through QuidCo you get £40 back to potentially £7.77pm...

stunning deal, If youre after a white N97 this is a bargain. Consider that after 18 months you will have only spent £450, and the resale value of the phone will probably be between £100-150 in 18 months.
Even if it is a clearance handset, you more than likely will have 7-14 days to return the product in its original condition in order to cancel the contract.
Excellent value for money.
Clearance is only someone that has ordered the phone and sent it back after deciding they dont like it, the sim has not been inserted into the phone and no calls or pictures are permitted to be used on the phone; neither can the buyer personalise the phone in any way.

Great Find in my mind!!! :) Voted HOT
Oh and its probably unlocked too, seeing as vodafone dont simlock their phones anymore.

I use Cnet for reviews and I find them pretty reliable. They don't really rate the N97 though:

"N97: Greatest disappointment of 2009"
http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/natelanxon/0,139102300,49302637,00.htm

I'm voting lukewarm :)

clearance usually means end of line or similar but still brand new

refurbished tends to mean returns dsr, 14 days money back etc...
#7
lol that's 100 texts a day can anyone even type that fast?!

phones4u will probably have limited stock of clearance phones anyway, and then be unable to fulfill the deal for some customers :-(
#11
good deal voted hot. If only it had unlimited internet too.
#13
yeah - u really need the internet on a phone like this so unlimited internet is pretty necessary to make the most of all the features
good deal though - i love the signal strength on vodafone
#14
hot deal, heat added. I have ordered one and hope it goes through the credit check as my address includes flat no but I couldn't find that on vodafone website with my postcode.
When I gave my credit card details it said the delivery address must match the credit card address which isnt goona be the case due to flat no registered with my credit card.

fingers crossed if I get mine as I woudnt be happy to have a credit search without the phone.

Thanks OP

I'm glad I stayed up now. Just ordered one of the black ones and went through Quidco, so hopefully will get the further £40 with that.

Found a page on the Phones4U site that explains "Clearance" http://phones4u.uk-outlet.com/

Heat & Rep Added

I got this phone a few weeks ago. Very nice it is too! Some good applications available on the Ovi store already (Speedtouch!!!).

Also, install vBag and you have a GBA playing phone.

Mario Kart anyone...???

its a great phone, don't be put off...
and a great deal...

yeah, it looks like you have to pay £35/month for a contract with unlimited internet, making this deal hot, but not as hot as it could be. the phone is not nearly as useful if you dont have a decent data package on the contract...

was going to order till i saw that the £25 pack doesnt include unlimited internet...

I tried this phone for a week, is slow, the screen unresponsive, crashes a lot:

reviews are horrid, a big flop for Nokia.

i'll stick with my N95 then, the best one so far!!

Horses for courses. I've had one of these for a month now and haven't had a problem with it.

I would go as far as saying this is the best phone I've used since the Nokia E71. I can't get on with the Iphone and don't like the Samsung UI on their new handsets like the Jet.

Def a hot deal. H&R

Can I just advise anyone thinking of buying this phone to please avoid it like the plague. Especially these 'clearance' deals.

I got an N97 on its release day and 2 months later I am now on my third handset. The first one wouldnt charge for me and Vodafone techincal decided that I had broken it myself 'customer damage' I was told.

After fighting with them and armed with a dossier of info that I obtained from the internet they admitted that the charging problem was a known fault but should have been fixed by the firmware update (which I had btw) I then got given another that didnt even last a week before it wouldnt come on and kept locking up before deciding that it again wouldnt charge up.

I am on my third now and if it goes I will be demanding a new handset because the N97 is an utter disaster of a handset.
#23
Anyone recommend some more apps to use.
(free if poss.)
#24
Shame there's no free wap. That would be the cherry on top.

totally agree, and i dont intend to pay more than i currently do on my monthly bill (£30), and not sure know if this phone will be the best step up from the N95

Why is this expired?

The biggest problem I have with this deal is the fact that Phones4u don't handle Vodafone/o2 number port in and you can't do it later with these networks - therefore with this deal you have to have a new number....

I'd rather wait for the Nokia N900, running maemo 5 with an ARM Cortext A-8 Processor instead of this lagfest peice of crap.

Hi, any updates on orders placed. I just received the first email stating that order has been received and under process. Has anyone got the confirmation/dispatch email yet?

I placed my order at 04:32 this morning and by 05:43 I'd received the following:

[COLOR="Blue"]Your Phones4u order has now been processed

Order reference:
466xxx

Dear Steven,

Thank you for your recent order. Your order has now been successfully processed as detailed below.

Your order will be despatched shortly.

So emails are sent out pretty quick.

So can i now get this in store?
#32
I phoned phones4u and been told that my order is declined due to credit check failed. I beleive its due to the address problem I mentioned earlier as have an O2 contract for the last two years and were with orange before that. disappointed, I was looking forward to the new phone
#33
I've had this handset for about 3 weeks now and think its brilliant, no problems at all so far apart from the occasional crash. latest firmware update seems to keep it ticking over a bit better than the original. definately need a data bundle with it though or its a bit of a waste having the handset
#34
Just incase anyone is still looking at this thread. My confirmation of delivery tomorrow has come through and my £40 Quidco is tracking.

all you have to do is ring up o2 or vodafone directly and arrange for your pac code to be applied onto your account. All networks do it no problems.

I have just received the phone today and the first thing i tried is a T-mobile sim and Woo hoo !! it works. The phone can be used with other networks!! i'm well pleased, Thanks O.P!!!

Yep, the phones are completely unbranded and unlocked to all networks!! They are in immaculate condition too.

Nearly threw the sim card out though. Didn't see the little brown envelope in the Special Delivery bag and it ended up in the bin!!

The version of the software isn't the latest (v11.0.021). Might be a few weeks before they get the v12, which gets rid of some small bugs and frees up some system memory for faster speed.

Good forum here to look at: http://www.nokian97forum.com/index.php

THANKS AGAIN TO OP

I received mine with the box open as well. It came in a blue box, :? I believe the original box should be black:x

It's the normal packaging for a reconditioned phone. I think it's most likely done like this so the phones can't be sold on as brand new and not reconditioned.

You will have received everything that a brand new phone comes with, but in a blue recon box. In my eyes not much of a problem, unless you wanted to bang it straight on eBay and sell it as a genuine brand new phone.
