I used this one because I'm not very technical. I choose the download option for sd card because i wanted to still keep the nook os and bought the recommended sd card from amazon uk which seems to be important. It works out about £7 including Adobe Flash player for the download plus the sd card. Not the option for everyone but worth £7 for me. You must choose the right download eg. nook hd or hd+ snd the right size 8, 16 or 32gb. As I said not for everyone as there's s free option available elsewhere but it looks like Chinese to me.

Wasn't that for the Nook HD rather than HD+?

I bought one for my son and another for my dad. 12 month warranty and buying from a well known retailer seems like a good deal to me. I hope I'm right...

Looks like the android for nook guys are offering convenience for anyone that doesn't want to go through the hassle of making their own bootable SD card.

If I DO want to have a go doing this myself is there a good How To guide on making an Android Micro SD card for the Nook HD+ where I can boot from it without messing with the original OS install? Far as I can tell it needs to be on a reputable branded class 4 or 6 32GB micro SD card.

Thanks for any tips...

I bought my 32gb hd+ from the same place a few months ago for £79.99 refurbished and it was brand new. It's a lot of tablet for the money but the os was soooo restrictive. So I rooted and changed the os now it's running on jelly bean 4.4.2 . I'll move it up to kitkat when the newest cyanogenmod is considered stable. I was scared to death that I was going to screw it up, but it was easy, and I still have the original operating system on micro sd if I need to change it back. Well worth doing. However, before I did that, I downloaded n2a onto a micro sd, at a cost of £20. It was a complete waste of money, and made the tablet unusable. Look at XDA developers forum for dummies guides and a handy vid on YouTube by everything4tech. Easy peasy!

I used this method a while ago - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500 - so long as you follow the procedure step by step then it is very easy. It just looks a bit daunting but if you take your time it is actually straight forward.

You will need a 4Gb or 8 Gb micro SD card - doesn't matter on write speed or anything - use one which is cheap as you will need to keep it as a back up in case anything ever goes wrong or you want to install the original version back on. As yet I haven't any issues but it is worth keeping the bootable card safe somewhere.

This will install a new operating system on your Nook HD+ (or HD if you follow the instructions for that) permanently. I have read about the android for nook and decided this was a better way to go.

Stick Nova Launcher on it once you are up and running and you will have a superb tablet that is really fast and can handle just about anything you throw at it.

If you want I will upload the exact files I used to do mine. There is a more recent version of CM that you can update to later on if you want - I will only include the files I know that worked from scratch. Where is best to upload a 300Mb file that people can access it?

As I said not for everyone. I'm a nearly 60 grandmother and I just wanted the itv player app which is not compatible with the nook operating system. I'm sure most young people would not find the free option a problem but for me personally it was £7 well spent.

They are charging for support. This is a fairly common practise with open source projects.

Indeed as I being an idiot managed to muck it up 3 times on my own and when I emailed afn a lovely young fella called dean took me through it with easy idiot proof instructions and I'm happily watching emmerdale etc.

Thanks for the kind offer. Could you post them up to a public Google Drive folder perhaps?

Give me 15 mins and I will share the link. It will be in a zip file so you will need some form of extraction software.

No probs. I have included the 10.1.3 version with the files. I know that this version works with the files I have included but looking at the instructions it seems the 10.2 will work as well.

I updated to 10.2.1 recently through the tablet. If once installed you go to settings>about tablet>cyanogen updates you can then search for the latest stable version that will work with the HD+ and download it. To install it you then need to boot into recovery and search for the download and install it. Took a couple of minutes at most for mine.

OK, I'll just use the files supplied and then upgrade through the tablet too.

I need to shoot out for a few hours but if you have any probs then give me a shout - you shouldn't do. I have recently updated my new HD using the same instructions and it was flawless.

Got one of these last week from morgancomputers. Lovely bit of kit. Screen is gorgeous. Definitely getting a second one. Only thing about this deal is that I'd feel silly paying ten quid more for half the storage.
#27
Got a 16gb the other day when it was £70 and as above the screen is amazing for the price.

I have installed CM11 which is Kit Kat and its a great tablet now, I honestly think its worth the £130 it costs new if your willing to flash Cyanogenmod or similar

Have some heat.

The only thing I'll point out for the non-tech minded is that once you have cyanogenmod 10.2 on it make sure you don't update with the offer cyanogenmod updates.
If you do you'll be trying to update to cyanogenmod 11 and it will cause your Nook to get stuck in a boot loop,
It'll keep offering this update so you can just disable the update check if required... any problems just ask.

If you do want to go straight to 11 (KitKat) then follow THIS set of instructions. I'd recommend 10.2 if you're not too techy as 11 versions are not yet classed as stable or final releases.

Had one last year, had to take it back (to Argos right enough, so someone may end up with my duffer).

Kept on having the 99% bug when changing profiles, which requires a hard reset to fix - had enough of the tears after my oldest lost his Minecraft saves for the umpteenth time.

I have 2 x HD+. Bought one when they first came out and bought the refurb deal from last week.

The screen (size and quality) was the main reason. cpu is fast enough for browsing and video.
My two year old is the biggest hog of it for angry birds and videos.

can't beat the screen / price ratio

One runs CM11 from SD, the other from emmc, but I was happy with the stock firmware at the time when they added google play.

OK

So I got two of these. Beautiful screen. As one is for my 80yo dad I've left it with the updated Nook version of android as it's fairly simple. I would have probably rooted and messed about with the other one as it's for the kid's use. Problem is - whilst it was charging it was not starting :( So one out of two. Returning it to Argos which seems fairly straightforward.
