#3
As much as I credit you for finding the cheapest price.... well it is Norbit :|
#4
It's been £23.99 all throughout HMV's sale til now. Funny but I am not swayed at all even by the 90%+ price reduction!

Ah come on now, I never said you were getting high quality entertainment for your £2.99, just that it was the cheapest price for it :-D

Great find, great price. Don't all vote cold just because you don't like it. It's the price that counts guys. HOT!
#7
Voted hot.

As for the rest of you, you are missing the point with the whole set up of this site.

Bad find, bad price. This isnt worth £2.99.
Its not even worth it if it was given to you.

Gonna sound really thick now, but can you play HD DVD's on an ordinary DVD player?

Hmmm. Not quite sure I agree with you. Most people visit the site looking for a bargain, but we wont buy everything that gets posted. When stuff gets posted its because the OP genuinely thinks there is a bargain. the heat is basically a vote on the value of a product. Yes this is cheap, but I would rather watch paint dry whilst pulling out my own teeth that watch this film, so even if it was less that a pound, with free delivery, it would still not be hot from me, because the film itself was never worth 50p, never mind £2.99.
If all we do is vote HOT for something becasue it is reduced from a manufacturers price, then the value of the heat would be unrepresentative.
Heat needs to represent if something is good value at the price, not just cheap.

Sorry - but I cant vote this fil hot.... ever...

Unfortunatly not. You need either a HD dvd player, or if you have an X-Box, you can get a HD drive for that

Maybe so, but charging £2.99 for this movie is like charging £59.99 for a pile of dog sh*t found on the street ergo; not a good deal.

Decent price for a windscreen scraper, with the winter coming up.

I may actually get a HD DVD player anyway (I currently have a Bush one that's a bit pants) Anyone know the best place to get one (Panasonic)?
#17
The best film I've seen for ages.

(I'm kidding.)

But voted hot because it's a good deal, if you want to buy it.

They're getting quite hard to come by now as they've stopped production. You need to make sure that you get an actual HD player, and not an upscaler, as upscalers don't play HD dvd's, they just improve the picture quality of a normal dvd to almost hd quality.

on ebay, item number 150295989265 is the kind of thing you should be looking for (description wise) but you just need to be aware that as they have stopped production of the HD dvd players, they have also stopped produvtion of the HD dvd's, which is why HMV are selling them off cheap. If you are thinking about watching lots of things in high def and building up a collection, maybe it's worth considering saving and getting a PS3 as it's apparantly the cheapest blu ray player out there, and all new films will be released on blu ray as they haven't stopped production of those.

Its not the cheapest bluray player. But it is future proof. Unlike some of the older ones.

be aware that it will take 30seconds for it to boot up, (even just to remove your DVD). I wouldnt use an HD_DVD player just to watch dvds if I was you, it was very frustrating
#21
ok dont like the look of the film but the price is good and if you had one of them £2 vouchers they are sending out for new acounts 99p :)

given it some heat - my OH liked it so I bought it for her - sweet

My HD-EP30 is down to 20 seconds with the latest firmware.

And it's the best upscaler I've seen - compared with SumVison, Tesco and Sony "ordinary" DVD upscalers...and it's cheaper to buy than the Sony if you can find one!

Then you (and others, evidently) are totally missing the point of this website.

This site is called HotUKDeals. It's not called VoteForMyFavouriteThings.

It's a site where people post items which are currently on sale and others vote 'hot' , 'lukewarm' or 'cold' based on the price.

Hot = The item is priced below anything else found. This will be inclusive of VAT, delivery etc.
Lukewarm = The item is priced about average on others found elsewere.
Cold = The item is more expensive than items found elsewhere.

I know it must be a hard concept for you and others to grasp, but it's simple- really. I'll even draw you a pretty picture if it's still too hard to understand :whistling:

This system works because believe it or not, the world is a big place and someone may have access to prices which you don't.

It's not a popularity contest.
It's not a site to vote for all your favourite things.
It's a site to identify items which are the cheapest available.

Take your argument and flip it over - if you only vote hot for things which you personally think are good value, how is that of use to anyone? It's not and that's the point. There are plenty of places for you to vote on things based on your personal taste - this isn't one of them.

Sorry, but you are simplifying the issue.

If the deal is purely on price then why vote at all. It may as well just do it automatically by mathematically comparing the price against RRP or the next cheapest and giving a figure.
So, if I start up a new company of chocolate teapots, and charge £200 each, but sell to 2 websites. It should be hot according to your logic if 1 website sells at a bargain price of £100 per chocolate teapot. Clearly, it should be cold as the item is rubbish, the RRP is ridiculous, the demand is low, and you can get better brands of teapot for less.

A lot of things go into making a hot deal. Value for money is 1.

Look at a Wii. I have seen those got to 1000 degrees , even at RRP. Your logic suggests it should have been cold (even last Xmas). Yet another site sold them for 2p less, but wouldn’t be in stock for 4months. Would you really vote for the lower priced Wii in that circumstance??

Course not

Yep, I simplified it for the idiots who come here and vote cold and either won't post a reason, or post something stupid. The basics are there - price comparison websites don't work as well as they should, so the community put on their thrifty jackets and go find the deals and post them. Posting hot or cold based on reduction on RRP is applicable to over 95% of the items so it would be senseless not to call it a standard.

Ok, I'll humour your totally unbelieveable analogy.....

"So, if I start up a new company of chocolate teapots, and charge £200 each, but sell to 2 websites."

For starters, if you're going to sucessfully sell a chocolate teapot to a website (i'm sure you mean an online buyer, but I'll go with you for now) for £200, it is going to be clearly special for a website to buy it in the first place. It could be made out an extremely rare cocoa bean. It may be filled with gold flake 'tea bags'. It could even be 10ft in size and meant for parties where people can break off parts and eat.

"It should be hot according to your logic if 1 website sells at a bargain price of £100 per chocolate teapot."

Yep, hot hot hot. 50% off the marked RRP. If 2 independent websites feel the product was worth £200 then it must be something special. See above.

"Clearly, it should be cold as the item is rubbish"

BAM! There it is. Totally irrelevent, based wholly on your opinion of the item - you've just confirmed the fact that people don't know how to use this site.

"the RRP is ridiculous, the demand is low, and you can get better brands of teapot for less."

Is it?. You're rating a value on an item plucked out of you head purely to illustrate your point. Speculation on what you deem to be a chocolate teapot, a made-up marketing strategy and your personal opinion are all fabricated. Your analogy is wrong, inaccurate and illustrates my point exactly. BTW, it totally backfired on you :p

If you want to have a proper discussion about the site's operation, pick a real item on this site and we'll discuss it.

As for the Wii, yes I would give heat to an item in stock at RRP if there was no stock elsewhere. As I mentioned at the start, it was a simplified description!

Wow, you must be busy tonight

So you managed to find 3 posts - 2 lukewarm (and your point is?) and a hot to counteract the CVMs (that's Cold Vote Morons to you and me - the idiots which surf the pages and stupidly vote things cold and don't have the intelligence to post why).

Since I'd already posted the following a couple of posts up:

"As for the Wii, yes I would give heat to an item in stock at RRP if there was no stock elsewhere. As I mentioned at the start, it was a simplified description!"

I'm surprised you even went to the effort. Maybe you should have read my post properly.

All you're proving is that I don't vote things cold for stupid reasons - thanks for that! :w00t:

To be fair, at least you comment when you vote. Kudos.
But your theory on voting is very flawed. The bottom line is that you dont have the right to tell others how to vote.

Ah, don't get 'voting' mixed up with 'secret ballots'.

A lot of votes are public and would normally result in a show of hands etc. What I disagree with is people voting cold for no good reason. Maybe you and others should read the HDUK Code of Conduct:

Section X:

When voting on the temperature of a deal, please do so fairly.

We request that cold voters leave a reason for doing so. By leaving constructive criticism, it will help your fellow members improve their posts in the future.

Is it that hard for people to follow the rules of the site?

Well do you call voting a bargain such as the HD-DVD on this thread cold, purely because you personally didn't like it? I don't exactly call that fair. I vote things hot all over the place that I don't actually use/need (such as PS3 stuff - I don't own one) but I vote hot because it's a good price and excellent value for money.
