I was out looking for a real Xmas tree around 2 metres tall for outside the house and everywhere seemed to be around £35-£40 for 'Nordman Fir' Xmas trees.

Popped in to Focus with the missus and she noticed a sign which IIRC, stated 'Nordman Fir' Xmas trees between 1.7m and 2.2m were 50% off (normally £24.99).

Well I picked up a £24.99 tree (didn't check what it was at the time) and took it to the checkout and true enough, it was £12.50.

I noticed the label later on and it the tree I picked was called a 'Glisten' (whatever that is), so maybe all the £24.99 trees are half price.

Not sure if it is nationwide, but the label was a 'proper' promotion sign, so may well be.

2.2m sounded really tall, until I realised it is only 7ft :(

Need at least an 8ft - I have 14ft high ceilings and a small tree would be dwarfed - can never find a decent offer on 8ft+ though :\

Could you not just buy a few now, and put them in the garden for a few years? I'm sure some types must be able to survive?

Might have been a decent enough idea... If I had a garden! :) City Apartment...

Are these potted, root balled or sawn off at the bottom? Hopefully you can save me a journey as these stores are not very local anymore - Thanks OP

The trees are cut end of October.

I'd imagine most, if not all trees, which are going to be sold this year are all now currently making their way to the garden centre/diy store/pub car park. If you buy it now, just keep it outside until a week before Christmas. Doubt you'll have many probs.

They were sawn. I think there was some potted ones, but not sure if they were half price.

I got a Nordman from a local garden centre last Xmas at the beginning of December and it didn't drop a needle once it was up. Maybe the odd one whilst decorating it, but that was about it.

Although the promo label mentioned 'Nordman Fir' trees, the one I ended up with today was a 'Norway Spruce', which lost a few needles in the back of the car whilst transporting it home. Not too bothered about needle drop tho' as it is for outside anyhow.

Probably get a 'Nordman Fir' again for indoors.

Not on offer in my local Focus so must be store specific.

I have just arrived back from Focas in Maldon Essex and can report finding the following A4 sized promotional sign.

1/2 PRICE
Norway Spruce
Christmas Tree
1.7m - 2.2m
£12.49
was £24.99
11 DAY SPECIAL OFFER. MUST END MONDAY 6TH DECEMBER.

I would have posted pictures of the sign and their display tree but could not figure how to do this. Tree's are of the needle dropping (small and thin) variety, although they do smell nice indoors. They only had one wrapped tree left which was small and not very bushy. The garden centre was closed due to weather so they may have had more, but I'm after the non drop variety so didn't ask. The display tree was seven foot tall and very bushy.

You'd be surprised what trees are capable of surviving.
