You payed for and installed Norton!? Baha, what a mistake!
It's going to get freezing in here!

Not voting either way, because if it works then its an okay price (AVG Free is even better priced....)

By experience Norton used to be crap.
I had nothing but bother when I had Norton couple years back.
Not picking viruses, trojans etc.

Hope all goes well for you.

Super Antispyware. Free and brilliant. But I agree, using Norton is like still using Internet Explorer.

The opinion that many, many people have is that free Security software available is better than Norton, which you have paid for.

Crap product £8.99
Superior product (by many experts) free

no brainer

Any I must go to bed, otherwise I will look far older than I am in the morning....

If you don't like AVG because it's free, then why not pay £2.95 for it ? (minus the cost of a text) !!!

Use this voucher http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/536914/1-off-any-purchase-via-sms-zavvi
to get £1.00 off (costs price of text message)

Buy AVG here ; http://www.zavvi.com/elysium.search?searchFilters=&search=avg for £2.95

The free systems are great, and updated legally keep you safe from fraud (if you don't update your bank can leave you with a large hole in your pocket from online fraud). But always best to have more than one free system. And AVG is a better one. Using firefox instead of IE is a no brainer too. And no dodgy pr0n.

I am going to go to bed....shortly.

I agree with you on Firefox, I personally dont like AVG forget its free. I love Linux Ubuntu , I love tons of open source stuff...I was just trying to save someone some money...snuff.....:-(

Any at least no one will be hacking me for a year ......

The last 2 versions of NIS (2009 and 2010) are really good.
I was using the Norton Internet Security for the last 3 years and no problem till now!! (Touch wood). My system was superfast and Norton detected almost all viruses and Trojens.

I am bit worried (and jelous ofcourse) as I bought 2010 last week from currys for 23 quids.

Voting hot....Great offer.:roll::roll:

Norton is quite simply bloatware, as people have already said there are better free alternatives such as Microsoft Security Essentials, trend micro housecall, AVG Free etc as well as Spybot S&D and Hijack This for all your other needs.

A good well configured hardware firewall built into a wireless router will go a long way to reduce threats as well as doing a little research into how a virus spreads i.e. dont click links in emails that you dont trust or dont click on the pop ups telling you that you are infected with a virus or to see a friend on MSN naked! LOL!

Oh and Jacob_Kreed if your the guy looking after your AV I would be a bit worried, just keep repeating the mantra that Linux is better and im sure you will be ok ;)

Nortons products USED to be resource hogs. -in 2005 to 2007!
As another poster hinted to, Google it : Norton Internet security 2009 review. (or 2010) and see the results for yourself.
Don't take it from someone who has 'heard' it wasn't very good, but hasn't actually used it personally, so is more than likely talking from their 4rse.

Great price for Norton, but the Free club always moan, and some of them wait for it...... drive BMW instead of a Micra but I know what I would feel better in, cryptic maybe me never..... night

It seems as if you mention Norton on HUKD you re swearing at peeps....It freezing no matter what the deal as it appears hardly anybody on HUKD likes it. Been there n tried to help out n give heads up but seems best not to use the N word.
#17
if this is the upgrade 2010 then price at currys is £64.99 then its definitely hot bought the internet security 2010 couple of days ago for £23.49 i would say this is a good deal . do not listen with the other comment yes you can get them free somehow but not norton.
#18
The latest versions of Norton are pretty good and not resource hungry like previous ones. AVG does not pick up all viruses.

Heat added for the PRICE

The same ill informed crap from "experts" who have read something about 5 years ago comes up again and again :-(

Two main point always seem to be missed:
1. Norton Internet Security is NOT just an anti virus package.
2. Norton Internet Security is NOT the product it was YEARS ago - It is up in the running with the best of other Internet security packages

If the price is right, buy it.

'same ill-informed crap from experts'

Not everyone who is against Norton claim to be an 'expert'

1. I referred to Norton as Security Software
2. By personal experience, I found Norton crap, fact, thus I wouldn't go back.

I repeat, good price IF it works, which I hope it does for all buyers

Where did I mention what you said? To be honest I don't know if I even read what you said at all, I did however read several posts that were spouting the same old rubbish I have seen repeatedly, and that was more than enough. If it had been specifically what you had said, then most likely I would have quoted it.

I was referring to people who claim that anti-virus software is the same thing.(or simply don't know the difference!)

If you found it crap, then you must find a lot of others to be equally crap.

Fine, if the reason you are recommending people NOT to use it is because it was OLD versions that were poor, that is true, and that is a perfectly good reason for not recommending a product; but the common approach is to avoid saying that, & by omission it misleads people. That's the way politicians speak :-(

I don't use it either, because old versions WERE rubbish, I have long ago moved on to other things, and have no particular reason to change at the moment; but having had the opportunity to try it out recently, the new versions are very good, and it is not good enough to stand by and let misinformation be spread.

Why, if I found Norton crap, MUST I find others to be equally crap?

You sir, are talking crap.

Afte a bad experience with Norton I turned to a different Securtiy Software and have not changed since, as I have found it to be perfectly adequate.

I stated that this product was a good price, IF IT WORKED.

I, by personal experience, do not rate it, whether the product has changed and is better now is of no relevance to me, I would not buy it.
I do not know for certain that it is better than my previous experience proved, hence the fact I stated I could not vote hot or cold.

Which I thought was the whole point of the voting hot or cold?
Not rating a product was not a reason for voting cold?
Similarily, an excellent product should not be voted hot just because its an excellent product, without taking the price into consideration?

I just don't understand this... why are we having this conversation at all?
(Rhetorical question, no answer wanted.)

Initially I wasn't referring to what you said, and as far as I can see, we are not even on opposite sides of the argument, and the only difference appears to be that I don't hold grudges against a company for ever, whereas you do, whatever; the initial experience was the same!

What is happening, is you are taking up every word I say and finding issue with it, whether or not it matches or opposes your previous comments. I don't understand, but in any case, I am not interested in pursuing it.

I am the first one to like a good debate, but for that, I normally need to have significantly differing opinions, I am not in the market for a debate on what essentially appears to be a one sided issue, with only a difference in how we subsequently deal with that! :?

If you don't like what I say, just put me on ignore. Simple as that.
