you guys know nothing about internet security then, you're just going on either a : past bad experiences with older norton products
or
b: advice from your mates who arent up to date with the current symantec security products

Norton internet security wiped the floor with everything else for product of the year 2009 at av-comparatives.org
independant thorough testing.

balls to your free AVG and all that Kack.

Eset came 3rd
Kaspersky second

http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/summary/summary2009.pdf

results speak for themselves but some folk will never open their minds past "my mate says norton is crap and slows your computer down"

I say this as a man who refused to sell Symantec products at all in a previous job in a PC store.

if I can be surprised....

its only got a bad rep with the people who refuse to try it again, the pathetic notion of 'once bitten'.
this includes IT professionals too, of course.

but people would rather put their trust in a free AV product with limited features and no support, which doesnt score highly, but its free and their mate said its good.
so it must be

Thats correct same as if you went to get your hair done and the made a mess of it would you go back???

Most free one work fine for day to day use anyway.

Even malwarebytes works great free (i know its not an anti-virus) but is does find lots of stuff and works great.

Avast did score highly came second in last year overall testing and its free too

most free ones work fine?
really? if you have a good degree of common sense and 3 or 4 other bits of software protecting your machine.
a quick check via Shields Up, would tell you how vulnerable your machine is tho.

they don't test the free Avast one (despite the image showing it), they test the pro version which offers more than just the free version
http://www.avast.com/en-gb/comparison-chart

free one doesnt offer priority updates, no protection on suspect websites, no ID protection, no email protection

thats why its free

its to raise awareness of the other products available
a free sample

AV companies need to sell to further their R&D so they can stay up to date.

the 3 that scored highest on 2009 AV comparatives do not offer free limited versions at all.

evidence speaks for itself

Avast may score well, but the free version is still severely limited.
