Good price but Norton was considered to be very slow at scanning with a poor detection rate for viruses etc. The 2008 version might be better however.
#2
Will do for some. Most magazines recommend Norton if you're going to pay for an anti virus suite.
#3
no way does any mag recommend norton

its reviews are about the worst anti virus out there and i agree having 1st hand experience "truly awful"
#4
I have to disagree with the above post I've been using norton fine for over a decade at home, its 10 times better than all the freebies you can download and beats McAfee hands down. For 18.00 you can't go wrong and you may want to check whether its the one that lets you have 3 licences for home use.
#5
For the love of god do not buy this!! Get AVG!!!
#6
I'd feel safer with no protection than the free version of AVG

Did i say AVG free?
If you are going to spend money get the AVG version of 'internet security'.

Norton make **** AV software these days, easy to use if you dont know what you are doing, and it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling of being secure..

Get Kaspersky, BitDefender or NOD32 - these are the top rated internet security and are miles ahead of Notron.

BitDefender is GREAT!
NOD32 good for small business's (and home).
Kapersky is INSANE! its good but very paranoid.
#11
Yeh used all three. Currently using NOD32 for my home Vista machine and BitDefender for all other computers. Hourly updates for all of them which beats Nortons once a week. Plus Norton slows your PC down, a lot!
#12
good price but awful software, resouce hog, use NOD32 it's much better and you can uninstall it

norton likes to screw up after a while then you cant install any other av software
#13
Whilst I can understand some of the comments above, they are based on historic facts - the 2008 version does not hog resources like it's predecessor and operates on all recent windows o/s very well indeed.
Good price too, rep and heat added.
#14
Norton slows down your computer like anything and in my opinion offers a very average security solution. Kaspersky which you can get for around £7 on ebay offers MUCH better protection and is actually very quick (especially its critical areas scan which takes 3 or 4 minutes on my 120 GB hard drive)
#15
It may not be the best but this is a good price. I vote hot
#16
I'd pay this sort of price for some software that would properly uninstall Norton!!!

AVG for me.
#17
I wouldn't install Norton on my pc if you paid me.....
#18
Looking back at the above comments surely it should just be whether this is a good price for the product whether or not the product is any good, heat added for what its worth :-)

True however if a product is bad then it wouldn't be worth buying in the first place, to help others from buying bad products we vote cold on that basis.

If it was a dvd then its all down to opinion and the heat would just be based on how cheap it was. with norton though its different, plus it would always be built on past versions and wether or not it is a resouce hog now it still won't uninstall like other av software so once its on its on.

It is almost comical when ever a anti-virus or security suites is listed on here or MSE.. I saw this when it was first posted yesterday and knew it was going to be a 'the one I use is better than yours' thread...

Go with what your happy with.. If your not sure google it.. Lots of reviews..

I have used several different ones over the years and the one I found that I liked the best with good reviews was Bitdender internet security..

I used Kaspersky but couldn't get on to well with that.. I found that some of the pages wouldn't open fully.. I'd obviously got it set up wrong..

youv'e hit the nail on the head
