Before you vote it cold, find a 3 PC Norton license for less.
Also if you haven't used Norton since 2009 this is a much better faster version.

Also, folks should check with their ISP whether they offer free software. Plusnet give you free AV from McAfee for use on up to five machines when you're an Extra or Pro customer ... and includes all the usual stuff like a firewall, browser safety advisor, parental controls, av, etc etc etc.
Agree with @JRW though, failing that MSE is fine for most people. IMO unless you're sniffing around dubious sites or downloading EXE's from torrent sites etc, most of the internet is fine anyway. Not that I'd personally choose them, but there's also Avast and AVG.
It is not resource hungry and protects the PC.
@storeyrich - please check your PC - it is not NIS that is the resource eating beast. There must be something else.
