Microsoft security essentials?

Free...(if you have windows xp or above)
Very highly rated...
Low system usage...
Probably more trustworthy than some third party company who need new viruses all the time to make it a necessary product. Not that they'd ever do anything underhand...:whistling:
Will grow and grow...

I wouldn't use this if they paid me 23.47 - stick with AVG free or even the new Microsoft offering.
#9
Would anyone really leave their AV in the hands of m$..
#10
voted cold simply because its Norton. Its *****.
#11
rubbish... just get the free m/s security essentials instead

Notorious Norton, why pay £23.47 for the privilidge to cripple your PC into a redundant state when you can let a 10 year old loose on it instead!

What a load of uninformed tripe, all based on old, old versions. Worse still, full of so-called "experts" who don't appear to know the difference between anti-virus software and internet security suites!

If I was in the market for a new Internet security package, I would certainly have this in my list now.

Anyway, it has all been discussed in this thread:

AVG isn't as good as people like to think it is, it doesn't find every virus and it also is a bit of a resource hog, plus every year they get you to upgrade and try to get you to pay. Much prefer to use MS Security Essentials.

Couldn't agree more. I've been using Norton since 2006 and not had a virus, trojan, spyware or malware successfully get onto my PC. The AVG fanboys don't seem to realise that it is purely anti-virus (and not very good at that) and doesn't have a firewall.

By the way, just got NIS 2010 2-year, 3-user licence from Fleabay for £9.05!! Pukka OEM copy from Canada, digital delivery and works a treat.

The built in firewall in Vista or XP really is decent enough if you're not installing crap on your PC or using stuff like Kazaa. There are very few bits of Malware that attack you in a driveby sense like the blaster worm did.

I bought Norton 2009 and it auto upgraded to 2010, the new norton is highly regarded and not a resource Hog and mine runs out in 40 days so thanks for the heads up on this.
