Norton used to be the 'Daddy' of AV & Security back in the day, but is now just a bloated resource hogging waste of space!!
Much better alternatives out there, many of which are free!!

Or just the anti-virus part for £14.99 - 3 users:

Norton software first thing that i remove when i get a new system or repair other peoples.
Bloody nightmare especially in the hands of computer illiterates .
Avast free and has never let anything through,AVG free ok but did used to be a system hog maybe works better nowadays.
Before anyone starts this is just my personal opinion and your more than welcome to waste your money on this rubbish paid for malware .

just out of interest, do you do repairs for free?
cos avg and avast dont make free software, they make software for profit.
the ones you think are free are supported by ads and mining your info and data prefs and selling them to other companies.
businesses dont give stuff away free unless its part of a competition.

am not really condoning use of free of upfront paid for AVs cos the problem these days is adware and PUPS. toolbars, reg cleaners, pc speed up progs that come down attached to free sw. they mess about with the registry and start disabling virus progs, slowing the pc to a crawl and making a right mess of it.

my routine starts with running the pc in safe mode and running adwcleaner, roguekiller, hitman pro, malwarebytes, jrt before i run any virus scans.
and no, i dont work for free.
whatever you use on your computer, be aware theres no such thing as free in the business world.
avg and avast dont just let you use a cut down version of their software cos they like you.
uncheky is great prog to put on recently cleaned or formatted machines.

YES I do do repairs for free, if people wish to pay or buy me a drink thats up to them.
You are correct about ads and data harvesting, but it is usually is possible in settings or whilst installing `free` AV software to turn off these. Besides if safe surfing and security protocols are followed then any data gathered is going to be very limited.
If the `Free` AV is good then I`m happy for software producers to try and gather any data they can and put up with the occasional advert.
The paid AV`s such as Norton gather even more personal data than the free AV`s in my experience.

and what do you base this statement on? just your experience or do you actually have some proof?

repairs for free? so you dont do this for a living then? or if you do then you're cheating your other paying customers if you were doing it for the option of payment or beer. businesses don't work that way. including software companies. you do it for free or cheap in the hope that someone will recommend your service to others. your work is supported by human advertising.

safe surfing and security protocols followed? gimme a break. why is it always the ones who say "but i hardly ever use it!" when you discover their computer is RIDDLED with toolbars, regcleaners, speed up sw and other junk that comes from downloading free software or playing facebook games and not reading the T&C and what they're agreeing to install?
once you've cleaned it all out, install UNCHECKY and believe me you'll see less of them come back for repeat repairs for the same issues.

tho repeat business helps pay the bills too!

not all free software is bad, but the majority of it is made with one thing in mind...money.
apparently it makes the world go round

Which part of statement ?
No I dont do it for a living, would drive me made sorting out peoples unsafe surfing all day every day.
After i have sorted out the PC/Laptop and given owner a good talking to (-: and pointed out the error of their ways they usually have the knowledge to keep things clean and running well and Virus free.
I do repairs to help people who havent been using home systems since way back when because I had to learn the hard way as couldnt/wouldnt pay the rip-off prices shops charge.

Yes this is why I end up sorting peoples PC out, they dont make the same mistakes after i`ve had a good moan at them oO

Any who, i`m just commenting on my personal views and I certainly did not expect the Spanish Inquisition LOL
