If you have a extra £34 you can get a XFX 4870 1GB with company of heros bundle (183.99)+ delivery from over clockers. Which may be a better option.

I'm in the market for a new card but it's been a while since my last purchase, are these noisy with such a fierce looking fan on them :?

I think this should be fine, as it has a non-stock cooler.

However, check that your PSU is up the mark power + connectivity-wise. Also check that you have enough room in your case - this has a cooler that juts out (occupying 1-2 adjacent slots) & is 9.5 inches long. Having a cool, well-ventilated case will help keep the card at a reasonable temperature too.

I think the photo of the card is a tad mis-leading?

The other 4870's (such as this one) are 2 slot monsters ...

The non-stock fans are normally better at cooling and often quieter because they don't spin as fast (due to the fact that they dissipate heat more efficiently).

This is what I got and I paid 190£ incl delivery from Ebuyer just before Christmas. The beauty of it is the 3yrs warranty and the cooler that can be detached without avoiding the warranty.
I currently have a Accelero Twin Turbo that put temperature from 70C under load to under 60C under load, under 50C idle, that is with a fan controller and fan speed at minimum. Very silent, too.

ps: the standard cooler is not that noisy, but it was too much for my setup. if you want a silent pc you will have to invest in a aftermarket cooler.
the card will not run GTA4 at maximum

Overclockers have a similar part, the Powercolor 4870 PCS Extreme overclocked part for the same price.

over the years i have bought Thousands of £'s worth of stuff from overclockers and have recommended them to friends and family they are one of the best online stores i have dealt with. I have not had a single issue with them.

you can just barely use the PCI slot under the GPU i could easily move my sound card up a slot. but for better airflow i decided not too

Hmm, looks like a better card, with better cooling - £163.28 delivered, & no Quidco.
#15
is this card more powerful than the 9800gtx+ which i was thinking of buying for £130?
#16
1Gb version available from here at £160.16 + delivery:

Update. I would check this before ordering...The title is 4870 but the text indicates it uses the 4850 CPU...

it is not a 4870, they shouldnt be allowed to use that name. it uses gdd3 instead of gddr5 and has 4850 GPU

update: it also has a silly looking cooler

Yes, the 9800GTX+ and 4850 are comparable cards, this is a fair bit more powerful.

I went from a 512MB 4850 to a 1GB 4870, £166 delivered, bargain!
#20
Thats a 4850 mate the title is incorrect.

Doesn't seem much in it going by these benchmarks. Will depend on the games played & their settings+resolutions. Anyway, have a look & see if it's worth paying £20-25 more on a HD 4870.

overclockers say no more worst company ever novatech are a safe bet.
Before xmas i had one of these on order from scan for £119 and it was a 4850 with 1gb of ram onboard i would ring before ordering as asus make this in 4850 ive never saw a 4870 like that.

After checking the picture it has the power socket for a 4870 as the 4850 uses a standard 6pin
#26
so glad to see pc part deals here !
my next card is an hd4870 1gb :D

Its really worth paying a little extra for the 1GB version the difference in games is night and day especially at high resolution. I have owned a sapphire hd4870 512mb and a power color hd4870 1GB and the 1GB version wiped the floor with it....

I had to read that three times before I understood what you were attempting to say. Punctuation; just say no!

That's right - 512Mb would be more than enough.
