Big £50+ price drop on the Novatoin Launch Pad Pro. Had my eye on this for a while. Cheapest around by quite away.

Launchpad Pro is the professional grid instrument. It's the simplest and easiest way to create dynamic, expressive performances in Ableton Live and any other music software, using an 8x8 grid of RGB velocity-sensitive pads to trigger and combine clips, create dynamic beats, bash out melodic lines and control your external hardware.

Novation understand the pressures of performing live. That's why they have made it as easy as possible to control Ableton Live, by building four simple modes into Launchpad Pro, which streamline everything for you.

Immediately trigger and combine your clips with Session Mode. Create dynamic beats and play the grid just like an instrument with Note Mode. In Device Mode, easily apply effects to your performance, User Mode lets you create unique custom performances and layouts and in Scale Mode, Launchpad Pro’s pads are automatically assigned to the notes of one of 32 preset scales or modes, making it impossible to play out of key. Seven Overlap options enable the relative positioning of notes on each row to be offset, while Chromatic 4th Mode keeps the pads assigned to the chromatic series but highlights the notes of the selected scale.

The whole instrument is designed to keep you focused on your performance. It lets you easily and immediately apply effects (Device Mode), while dipping in and out of specific mixer controls at the touch of a button. Of course, if you want to get really creative, download a growing library of Max for Live devices, and control them using your Launchpad Pro. It's sleek, lightweight and tough enough that you can throw it in your bag and know it will survive even the roughest gigs. It also comes with everything you need to get started (cables and software): just plug it in and start making music.

Good price - But - If your an Ableton user consider buying a second hand Akai APC 40 over this. They're bombproof and far more intuitive to use in a live environment.

I can put this (still in the box) next to the Kontrol F1 (still in the box) that I never have the time to play with! :(

The new Apple one looks good, can't remember what it's called tho.

An iPad with any of various apps, perhaps? :)

This looks nice, but an iPad with an app is already more capable than most amateur tinklers are likely to need, assuming you have an iPad already for other porpoises.

No, it's not an iPad, it's a similar box to this and is modular so you can add further boxes.
Apple sent out an email a few weeks ago linking to YouTube. It looked very versatile.
Sorry I can't remember what they call it

There is a YouTube video by a guy called Andrew Huang which is brilliant.
