The Arora II is available for £109.99 at hardware heroes. Worth the extra £15 for IPS screen I reckon

£95 is a good price for the elf 2 so heat added

I've not got my tape measure with me right now. Is this like 2 iplops stuck together?

I could really do with a 5" maximum, but I'm getting fed up of looking now. Might go for this instead. Cheers poster.

Why would I get a Nexus over this? Confused by Andriod device fragmentation :( Thanks

The appearance of the Nexus 7 is certainly going to drive a few prices down.

The other possible issue is battery life on ips is shorter due to a their brighter backlight (people thought this was true for original elf/aurora). Unfortunately not found anything quantitative as to whether its 1, 10 or 20% great overview with benchmark here:

Sunspider score at 1500ms is better than nexus at 1700ms!

The differences between the IPS LCD, TN LCD and LED displays in that review is pretty shocking! That's a pure black background in that test, not a nice fading blue graphic.

Yeah I think the elf is top right there (going by the ainol brand centre bottom) but not sure it means much. Top left is the same TN screen and looks much blacker so prob an angle thing. In fact while the large IPS n90 screen there looks very black here it looks blue also - camera artifacts perhaps? Of course LED will always win for black but can't imagine it's as bad as it appears there.

i have 2 elf2's, one from an early batch and one from 4weeks later. The earlier one defn has weaker wifi but it only shows up as a problem if the wifi signal is weak. If you have decent wifi strength, haven't noticed a problem.

Battery issues aside, I would get the Aurora 2 with the IPS screen. when I got mine, the elf2 had just come out and the IPS screen was only available with the old processor.

The Elf2 is a great product for the price but spend the extra on the Aurora 2 for the better vewing angles of the IPS.

mostly due to it is almost 50% of the price of a Nexus

edit, sorry pre - coffee, I read it the wrong way round.

The nexus is more powerful, newer os, a nicer screen and more likely to be supported in future.

Nexus comes with Jelly Bean, unknown if these will, it also has a quad core tegra 3 processor so will be better for gaming on. The Nexus will also be first off the bat for any firmware updates being a pure Nexus device. This is a good price but I do feel I would go the route of the Nexus if I was going to pick one up.

No jelly bean? Sd card slot?

Had the Elf 2 for a while, lovely little tablet. No issues with wifi or battery life.
Never put it into Performance mode (the full 1.5GHz) as it has'nt needed it yet despite playing some pretty hectic games like Fieldrunners HD and Plants V Zombies.

have fixed several elf 2's and the aurora 2's for wifi issue. imo the elf 2's antenna is rubbish and its easier to do the same mod as required for the aurora 2 ground plane addition (to data sheet). however the contact on the main pcb from the co ax is a bit dodgy to say the least on the elf 2.

i personally own the aurora 2 (batch a) and the firmware it came with had issues with battery heating during charging. there have been several updates since then to address certain issues. however there was a thread on the elf 2 forum about a possible root kit in some apps on the newer firmware but i don't know how true that was.

i also wouldn't hold my breath on any custom roms (from source) as the source code for the kernel hasn't even been released. so development in that section is kind of limited.

However for the price i got my device i am extremly happy with it.

you can not have dual display when using hdmi currently on this device like you could with the A10 cips
    thought i'd point that out.

Decent price but my advice would be to save up £65 more and get a nexus 7.

Nexus got a tad better screen, and better processor, battery, bigger support from community and google itself. But no sd card slot, no hdmi out (fail...) and less internal memory (unless you pick a 16gig version which is 100 quid more). The build quality is more or less the same, as Nexus struggles with the screen issues and phantom keyboards...

For simple tasks and not heavy use I would go for NOVO7 ELF II or Arora II. Best performance for the price.
