Please see http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/340618/speakers-for-denon-dm37dab-dab-mini/ where I reckon the Tannoy F1 Custom would be a good match.

Shame you can't order it online anymore!

I have this exact model, bought last month for a fiver more. It is excellent, and I paired it with the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 (in walnut). The sound is great. I would go for the refundable 5 year warranty too, 10% of purchase price. I especially like the USB input for playback, and line in (with source direct option), so I can even use it as an amp for my Cowon D2.

PS: Find it cheaper? Well Empire Direct (RIP) had it at £149 in early Jan, but it went out of stock very quickly, funny that!! I watched it for a few weeks and didn't see it this cheap anywhere other than that.

Thanks JayDubya I can't wait to get my hands on this system tomorrow.

I wonder how many of those were paired with a suspiciously large advertisement for said product. ;-)

How many inputs can you have going into this?

I don't suppose it has a line out so that it can be used with a power amp?

Try people who have got one on AV Forums. They seem to agree (with the magazine).
#15
Are there pieces of equipment that people have on there that they all agree are carp though?
#16
My Denon ud-m31 (older model, no DAB or USB) got a similar review & award from what hi-fi and it has been fantastic. had it around 4 years and not a single issue. I know its not exactly a comparison but dont completely dismiss what the mag says. If i wasnt so happy with my Denon i would certainly consider this.

So the what hi fi reviews and user reviews an av forums and others are all wrong don't know what your problem is with it do you have this system ???. This new model seems to be a good mini system with enough user reviews to make me believe the magazine is spot on.
#18
Do you have an answer to my question two postings above?

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this thing - just that the marketing hyperbole is typical lay-it-on-in-spades rubbish. "Tuned" in the UK eh? Well why doesn't it receive Long Wave?

The issue with What Hi Fi is pretty well known. Good advice would be to seek opinions elsewhere. Sometimes they get it right but only about as often as a weather forecaster. The publication can be useful as a shopping tool as there is normally a decent selection of advertisers, but tbh there's far more information on the http://www.

Yes i know about what hi fi, what home cinema ,etc etc and people slagging them off all the time its old news and a bit of snobbery if you ask me. Yes good advice is available on avforums and other well known sites and they all say the same as the mag about this model so you cannot really say the mag has got it wrong this time around can you ?

No, it's most likely the result of realising that anything other than a glowing review of a Denon micro would be extremely foolish. Or because of advertising or any combination.

But all this just skates around the issue really. If you want something that you'll like don't listen to anyone except yourself. Get a demonstration organised - Richer will do that if you ask nicely, take some music along and see what you think. An over reliance on any magazine(s) or other individuals' opinions can never substitute for the buyer's own tastes.
#22
Unfortunately you'll need to take loudspeakers as well.

And loudspeaker positioning and room acoustics make a vast difference to the sound, but are not sexy things so are usually ignored.

Agreed, but it's certainly possible to get a feel for how components sound on a warm to clinical scale. There's a huge variation in speaker sound styles which is why I originally suggested the Custom F1s as Richer stock them too, hence proper demo possibility. I remember being astounded by the differences the first time speakers were demonstrated side by side to me, as I recall it was a pair of Tannoy 609 Mk IIs and some Wharfedale floorstanders; the Tannoys were weighty with a hint of warmth and the Wharfedales were surprisingly lightweight yet extremely clear.
#24
Hmm... you're straying dangerously close to marketing waffle there. :p

Just back home and unpacked the silver Denon. I must say it sounds sweet! I have it hooked up to a pair of old faithful Mission speakers and I am very impressed.

The DAB reception is great (with the supplied dab Ariel) considering the DAB postcode search suggests were in a DAB free zone- so an extra thumbs up there.

The USB port for Mp3 and Wma's works very well and plays both without issue and the sound once again is excellent. The whole system is a joy and very easy to navigate around - I haven't even opened the instruction book yet!

For £169 its a bargain.

This is really a great micro music system and worthy of its good reviews on the web.

Now if you'd mentioned that there was a pair of old Missions lying around.....
Probably no need to get anything else.

Voted hot but I will be buying from Superfi for £176.12 inc free del

Why? because getting to Richer Sounds is a little bit of a hassle for me and also, Superfi have a great speaker deal - this unit in silver with a pair of Q Acoustics 1010i speakers for a grand total of £234.84 delivered

Or you can add Denon's own matching speaker for £68.46 new but unboxed or £78.25 new and boxed. I've personally just ordered it with the Q Acoustics pair.

Hifix get better reviews as a supplier than Superfi. I was considering Superfi myself until I saw the reviews.

May have a rethink now. I certainly don't like Richer Sounds after past treatment from them.

EDIT : Oooh. Hifix have the black version listed at £176 too. I wonder if it is in stock.

Bought it but the wife didn't like the looks of it. It was going on our dsiplay unit and she said that it looked like a car radio. Shame really I quite liked it but I take her point about the top cover. It's more like a grille. There are more attractive cabinets out there!!!

All 3 suppliers have a similar price so although not technically a 'hot deal' this seems to be a cracking little system at great value (and I am very tempted to replace my bulky aging pioneer seperates) so I've voted hot. So do speakers (the tannoy look nicer to me) come with cables attached or will I need to buy some cable and plugs/things..? If so can someone let me know what I'd need please :)
