ESPN are currently offering Sky customers, who ring up to cancel the channel, four months free viewing.

This is not an advertised promotion but a retentions deal aimed at avoiding people cancelling over the summer and failing to sign back up again when the new EPL season kicks off in August.

There has also been some reports of people (possibly those playing harder to get) being offered six months free, but four months seems to be pretty much nailed on at least.

Remember you are obliged to give 31 days notice when cancelling so get your cancellation in now.

The ESPN phone number is listed as 0844 324 1540 but you can alternatively call Sky customer services free on 0800 046 6432.

* Technically this belongs in the deals section as it requires an initial spend to get the free offer.

And sky sports are offering 3 months at £3 per month too without haggling.

is there a minimum length contract for this

I thought we got over these " I phoned sky and threatened to cancel" deals. Colder than an alaskan winter.

I'd imagine that a lot of people who only have ESPN for the EPL will be considering sacking them off after this season has finished what with the amount of prem matches they show being cut in half.

I'm pretty sure it isn't but always worth asking to make sure.

I've got a feeling they might broker a deal with Sky for one of their packs of 23 games. I'd be surprised if they ran with just 23 matches next season.

Except this is a deal they have been giving to practically all customers. Setanta used to do the same. They'd give you the channel free over the summer while there's no football on.

This is nothing to do with the hit and miss calls people make to Sky or their mobile phone network hoping for a reduction in their subs.
There's a whole thread over on Digital Spy of people who have had this deal so it is a standard (yet un-advertised) offer and doesn't warrant your cold vote.

Got it free with virgin xl packge anyways :)

Will they have any of the World Cup matches or is it as usual on terrestrial ?

You could be right there mate. They certainly seem to have a good relationship with Sky so it wouldn't shock me if they came to some deal.

I actually called them up yesterday as my new HD remote control not working - and without asking for anything but a new control he gave me Sky sport free for 3 months! weird how they operate!

I think it really depends on the telesales person you are put through to. Some are just rotten - not interested in their work, while others will try to go that extra distance for providing customer service.

The chap on here who cancelled his sky sports and espn, I would try calling again and tell them that you are checking to see whether the cancellation has gone through - and I'm sure (if it's a different rep), you will be offered a deal:thumbsup:

Yeah totally agreed. I've often found this when ringing call centres.

@ purvesmarky: Ring them back, double check that the cancellation has gone through and just slip into the conversation that your mate has been given this deal. Hopefully that should work.

I think you need to say its just for the summer.

I thought of doing this but if you say you will be going back to them anyway why would they offer you free months. Possibly best to say you will be leaving for ever ;-) and see what they do.

I Phoned Today And The Guy Asked Why I Was Cancelling . I Said Footie Will Be Finished In 31 Days And I'll Save Money . He Said Cacelling Espn Was A Good Idea "as They Only Show Football" He Offered Me 6 Months 20% Off . I Pay £48 After Losing Espn , But Will Now Pay £38.50 For 6 Months Until October . So I Took That .

In case you forget to ring and resubscribe. Means you automatically start paying again and you don't cancel anything. That's what this deal is about, not pretending to cancel, actually telling them you are canceling for the summer.

It also means ESPN are not actually losing a customer.

Aye. More customers = more advertising revenue. Regardsless of whether the customers are paying or not!
