Ive rang ntl to see if they can match the talk talk broadband and phone package offer which to my supprise they have.

i now get 4 mg broadband, talk unlimited 24(free calls 24 hrs) and phone line rental for only £22.99 per months for 12 months.

the normal cost of this package would be £24.99 for the broadband,£14.00 for talk unlimited 24 and £9.50 line rental,,total cost £48.49 saving me £25.50 per month

if you want to try this offer give them(ntl) a call on 0800 052 9403 option 2 and ask if they can match the talk talk offer of phone line with free calls and broadband which talk talk are charging £22.99 per month

sorry no link to this as ntl wouldnt want everyone knowing about this would they (LOL)...give them a call what have you got to lose

Phoned today armed with prices from sky and BT. As I told her my sad story she reduced my package costs from £45.49 to £22 per month.

Shy bairns get nout.

Were you already a customer or was this an introductory offer?

ive been a ntl customer for about 7 years.
i was paying £17.49 for 1 mg broadband,£9.50 line rental and £5.50 for free local calls(dont see how its free as you have to pay £5.50),,total £32.49 plus non local call charges

I recently renewed my deal here in Derry - same as the above for £26. However my next bill was only £10.94 - I wonder should I complain?
#4
I had movies and sports and as a cost cutting exercise I cancelled them both. 3 months later they were still on and I was still being billed so I phoned and complained and they switched them off and refunded me 3 months worth. So I don't get billed anymore but they still havent switched them off :D

I m a NTL 4mb customer and I have to say they are absolutely brilliant. I dont really have any problems with them and I think they are doing ok.

I will stick to NTL for another year when Sky finally takes over the broadband (16mb) for free if u are a Sky customer.

That's what the Sky engineers said when they come to install my "wok"

You can phone the same number and reduce any part of your NTL Bill, I recently did and now get 10mb BB at half price £17.50. In theory you can half your overal l NTL bill

Also I read on another thread that NTL are doing all this because of stiff competition

One guy also said he got out of customer services that eventually NTL will only do 1 BB package 10mb unlimited for a tenner :)

he said wrong, look on their site, its £10p/m for upto 16meg line, but still cheaper than my current tiscali 2meg line with weekend calls for just reduced to £15 p/m from £18.

I think the base range package is free (2meg) but has a set up fee (£40) and a monthly cap(2 gig)

My broadband is now 4m, still have Talk Weekend and now freeview (not starter TV) and am paying £36.50 p/m.

Who can I price match with to this get this a lot cheaper?

I have Telewest 4MB broadband, talks evenings and weekends, and the 'essential' TV package.

This was costing me £53 a month.

Phoned today and, as "a special offer", they halved this to £26.50 for three months. At the end of the three months, I am advised to phone back to negotiate again.

I simply said I was planning on cancelling and moving to Sky.

The girl said these special offers ran all the time. I pointed out that as a loyal customer I would expect to be given their best price at all times and not have to keep requestiung them.

We'll see what happens in three months.

scoobydoobydooo I owe you a pint or two (will some +ve rep do ???)

I phoned NTL today and after the usual 20 min wait I asked them if they could match the talk talk offer and also said that I no longer wanted the basic tv package that I have, as I use sky.

Almost immediatly I was told that this was no problem, not only would they match the talk talk offer but as I had the phone line with them I could keep the basic tv pack for free for life, amazing.

She also said that If I wanted to stay on 2mb instead of 4mb broadband I could have the package for £20.49, but for the sake of a couple of quid I went for the 4mb, she then went off the line for a minute to turn up the broadband speed and that was it, job done.

So to recap I now get 4MB broadband, 24hr free calls and line rental for £22.99.

Thanks :-)

thanks for the posts, just getting ready to give them a call,

ukgatecrasher, is your basic tv package analogue or digital?

i am currently paying £30 for analogue tv, basic telephone line, and 1mb broadband

as i am on analogue i might go for the jugular by asking if i can get upgraded to digital for not a lot more
#14
Hi Hanif.

The box that I have (its in my sons room, so gets little use) says ntl digital on it but thats all I know about it to be honest.

Apart from that I was on exactly the same package that you are on so you should get a least the same deal, as there really was no negotiating they just gave me what I asked for.

Goodluck.

Anyone know what the Talk Talk equivalent of what I have at the moment costs or if can get a better phone tariff with my current broadband with Telewest for less than what I'm currently paying a month?

I looked at Talk Talk's site, and it wasn't clear.

hi tolgak,,,if you give ntl a call on 0800 052 9403 option 2 and ask them to price match the talk talk offer of broadband+unlimited calls and telephone line rental for £22.99 p/m they will do it and they more than likely will let you have the freeview tv cheannels free anyway

Quick question for you all.
The Broadband packages with the telephone line rental, has that been done on your BT phone line (or what was previously your BT Line)?

We've had NTL for about 10+ years now, way back when it was VideoTron before they got bought out by Cable & Wireless.
When we signed up they installed a VideoTron Phone line (so seperate from the BT line) and we get free calls to other NTL customers now (evenings and weekends I believe).
I would love to get our NTL TV package price down, as well as the phone line and get Broadband with them, so I thought I'd ask which 'line' you're getting your Broadband on.
I've been checking the NTL Cable Broadband checker for about 4 years since they popped a leaflet through our door saying we'd be able to get Cable Broadband "Really Soon"(tm), but that never happened.

Anyway, I hope I haven't rambled on too much.

I'm getting digital tv, 2meg broadband and basic telephone for 33 a month.

There should hardly be anyone left on 1 meg, it's no longer a supported service from NTL - everyone who is/was on 1meg has either got a free upgrade to 2 or will do within the next few weeks.

You might have had a free upgrade and not noticed or you might have had the upgrade and you need to reset you cable modem to get it to kick in (just turn it off for a minute and then back on).

its actually option 3 as option 2 is if your moving house!! thought i would say just so no one is left on hold for ages and then told ur on the wrong number!!
#21
Bah. Well, I tried them, but no joy. The sales advisor I spoke to suggested that I should go with TalkTalk, and he would look to move to them as well! Bit embarrassing for ntl :giggle:

Unfortunately that makes Ntl a little bit uncompetitive. Even Aol are offering free months off and free wireless modems now.

I guess you just got lucky, but well done!
#22
We called, and got our 10mbit internet (£34.99) for £19.99.
And our Talk unlimted package for £14.99 a month.

A total saving of £30 a month... :)

Thanks for the tip!

NTL are the best ISP For speed as well, so i wouldnt have concidered moving anyway.

can new customers get this?

"I'm getting digital tv, 2meg broadband and basic telephone for 33 a month."

Is it the TV family package you have?
I pay more than you for phone+TV+1mb Internet...

I think I'll need to call them
#25
Hi,
Sorry if this is not the place but as I am completely new to this, could anyone tell me if this would also apply to new customers i.e. call them and haggle the same way?

Once at it maybe someone could explain me what exactly is cable? do I need a telephone line with it? can I go wireless with this kind of connection? would I be able to use my current router for this(Voyager)?

Basically, we are moving to another house, I have seen it has telephone socket but I was told this hasn't been used for a long time.

Anyways, I think is enough for now, thanks in advance for your help.
#26
Hi,

To be honest I do not know if NTL will offer this to new customers but its well worth a try.

NTL offer broadband in two different ways, the first is cable broadband which basically is just a piece of coax run to you house, it then goes through a NTL socket on your wall (not telephone type box) into the broadband modem. Then onto your pc or wireless router.

The second type of broadband that they offer is ADSL through your standard BT line.
This is offered to homes that do not have cable in the area.

The offers that you see on this thread are all for the first type of connection (Cable). NTL can offer good discounts here because its thier own network, they dont have to pay BT anything for it like they have to do with ADSL.

If you have NTL cable in your area you can get NTL cable broadband without having your telephone throgh them, However the best discounts are for customers who take out more that one service.

Personally I am paying £22.99 for 4MB broadband, telphone line rental and free landline phonecalls 24/7. You can pay this much just for the broadband so its a cracking deal.

As for your Wirelss router I dont really know, But there are both Cable and ADSL wireless roters out there so you would need the right one for your connection.

Hope this is of some help.

have just printed the first page of this thread so that my other half can call them this weekend... we've currently got the 4m bb for £24.99 so fingers crossed that they'll do it!

Scooby, thanks very much, just phoned up and reduced my package from £44 to £21, excellent post, I didn't tell them that Talk Talk don't cover my area though!
#29
Best thing is to cancel (rather than say you will, actually give your 30 day notice)....I did this, about 2 weeks into my 30 days notice, got a call from NTL, now for the next 3 months, I have the following:
4MB Broadband, Talk 24 unlimited (all uk land line anytime free calls), and line rental....all at a massive cost of......£0

After the 3 months, I have been told they will have a package for me to meet the TalkTalk and Tiscali type deals.....will wait on see.

Just phoned NTL got it down from £45 a month to £11 for next 6 months. Thats an extra 34 beer tokens a month, many thanks Scooby rep added :whistling:

Didn't see this sorry mate.

Your 1meg broadband should be either already upgraded to 2meg or about to be for a start. It's free and for all NTL customers. (You might need to reboot your modem etc). So ask about that.

http://www.home.ntl.com/page/3for30

Thats the page. I switched back when it was 3 for £33 and can't be arsed to go through the hassle for £3 a month. It's just basic digital tv, i pay £8 for an extra package too.

Just called NTL/TELEWEST sales for the Sheffield area and they say no special deals for new customers other than those advertised and on the website.I was up for a move there as well!
regards Mick.

you need to ring the 0800 phone number at the start of the thread & speak to the cancellations dept in Coventry
#37
I did phone the number but as I'm not a current customer I've nothing to cancel. They pass me to sales who, in the words of Manuel, know naaarfink.
regards Mick.
#38
I called them up, wouldn't consider doing the "talk talk" deal, but they did give me the 2Meg broadband for £8.99 a month for the next 6 months, I just called the number on the bill.
Good saving, will try again in 6 months.
#39
i called them up using the number in the first post... the unhelpful person transfered me to sales and then another unhelpful person said that we could add the phoneline to our package for £7 a month more (we are currently on the 4mb broadband for £24.99) and that they couldn't do the £22.99 deal...

the only reason we were looking to do it was so that we could get free tv..

looked at sky's website tonight and will prob go for the £18 tv package, plus £10 per month for 16gb unlimited internet!... so that's only £3 more than what we're paying atm....

you'd think after nearly 5 years with NTL they would try and keep loyal customers...
#40
well we have been with ntl for 7 or 8 years, rang them up about 3 months ago and got this deal:

4 meg broadband
family tv package
phone line
Talk unlimited 24 package
and one extra channel which costs £10 a month

all this for a tidy sum of £27.49 a month for the full 12 months!

and this months bills was all messed up, they added extra discounts and came to 1.49!!!

gotta say ntl customer service is **** but am happy with broadband and tv plus phone. if you ring the retentions dept and they dont offer a good deal, ring back the next day and speak to someone different who may offer sommat better.
