This is a good price right now but if you can wait till march/April Nvidia will be releasing the 9600 and the 9800 cards making these 8 series cards fall to their correct rrp prices .

hi there...was wondering, should I buy a nearly new (read: used) 8800 GTX 768 mb card from a guy on ebay....its an exact replica of the card I already have and therefore would that mean it would be any more likely to have NO problems with compatability...uit would work out about 55 quid more for a used card....but I dont wanna get any driver problems going forward

are you talking about sli, as in two cards running together? if so no. you can only run two cards of the same type (dont have to be same brand, just same spec). you have to be sure that you have an sli board too, otherwise im not too sure what you are asking.
oh yeah and all the 8 series drivers are the same, so a gtx would use the same driver as a gt/gts. unless we go back to sli, then that would need a different driver.

so if I never intend to run the boards in SLI (mode) then any card will work with no conflicts at all.....so not worth spending the extra £50 at all

If you have a 768Mb GTX card already, then to run in SLI (duel graphics cards), you will need another 768Mb GTX card. you will NOT be able to add a 512Mb GT card.

At the moment I would say dont bother... Running SLI is like a lottery, some games its good (at best 1.5 times better than 1 card), in some games you wont see any improvement. You are much better sticking with 1 fast card, which to be honest, yours is pretty damn good anyway.

A 768Mb GTX card will handle almost any game, apart from maybe crysis (none really can at the moment), on a screen size upto 22" or so.

If you have a 768Mb GTX already, a 512Mb GT will be a step down. Nvida release one set of drivers for all their 8800 series graphics cards, so yes your drivers will be fine. As long as you dont switch to an ATI card... :)
