The Overclockers site is under attack at the moment

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/01/22/ocuk_ddos_reward/

They must have annoyed the wrong person with the extremely shoddy Customer Service they provide.

Saying that, this is a BARGAIN.

People always take the side of their case off when the system get hot. This in turn actually causes your system to overheat more. Fans and heat sinks work best when the side is on allowing a flow through of heat.

Best thing is ensure one end of your case has fans blowing and one end has fans sucking to create a flow of air passing through the case. Usually people have fans blowing air into the case which just creates lots of warm hot air inside. What you want is cool air in, warn air out, and not cool air in, warm air stays in.

This sounds like a classic case of dust build up on your card. The 9800gx2 should be quite capable of running good frames. Make sure the fan is running. Then take the card out and use computer air spray to give the whole thing a good clean. If it is just screws, take the fan and cooling container off of the card and give the insides a good blow. These cards x2 cards are actually 2 processors on one card (actually I think they are 2 PCBs mounted together). Make sure you are running SLI...the number of people I have spoken to that are running a gx2 and forget to enable sli, thereby only using a single processor...LOL

Lastly, make sure that the airflow through your system is up to scratch. There is no point in putting one of these inside a media centre PC that has no room for cooling. Make sure that the air vents on your case are not clogged, these need to be regularly unclogged, they attract the dust like nobody's business.

If this offer was on at a professional outfit such as Ebuyer, Play, Amazon etc it would be scorching hot. These cards go for much more used on Ebay.

I have been playing on pcs since the early 90s. Nowadays it seems a bit foolish to pay this sort of money on a component if you can buy a last generation console for roughly the same price.

Consoles are poo. Playing games at sub 30fps with shoddy textures and no AA, and limited resolutions? No thanks.

suit yourself! I haven't got a ps3 or a xbox 360 but I had enough of buying ultra expensive gfx cards that will lose 80% of their value in 6 months.

so true!
I remember playing £500+ for my graphics card when it came out, its now worth around 90 quid... still works, but things do like to de-value more with pc's

I take it you've never experienced their 'customer service'.

Dunno about his but I bought a gfx card off them, the fan died. Sent it back at a cost of £6.40

Got a replacement exactly the same prob immediately. They told me to send it back and they would replace with different model. Sent it back another £6.40. They returned the same card saying it wasn't faulty and charged my credit card £21.90. I went mad they said send it back we'll send you a diff card and refund the postage. Another £6.40 later and a long letter (putting things in writing seems to work better), and I did get a different card but no refund. I am still writng to them about the £40 4 months later with no joy.

So my £80 budget card cost me £120 plus endless hassle.

Never use Overclockers they stink, and if you have to phone them don't do it on their ****** premium rate line. They do have a landline.

OMG have to lie dow now just thinking about them has made me rage.

Great deal, shame its with OCUK...complete bunch of racist retards....customer service is a shambles and forums run to rules that Nazis would be proud of!

Would rather buy for twice the price elsewhere then from them!
#16
Overclocker's site is under DDOS or DOS, that's not the same as saying their site might not be secure. Availability is affected under a denial of service, but almost certainly not security.

Yes, and its been fine

Good price but I would never buy from these guys again. Had to return a motherboard 3 times I brought from them last year, they wouldnt exchange it for a new one and kept on giving me rubbish excuses. In the end I had to get trading standards involved to sort it out.
#19
For those who have been lucky enough to have a good experience with OCUK customer service, take a look at their google rating - http://www.google.co.uk/products/reviews?fq=overclockers&cid=e154686a41c0ab5e&sort=1&cat=merchants. The worst company I have ever dealt with and it looks like I'm not the only one.

Good price for a great card - but not when you're buying from OCUK :(
#20
Anyone fortunate enough to have not had a bad experience with OCUK should check out their google rating. THE worst company I have ever dealt with.

Ah, you've read the same forums as I have! I can't stand OcUK, their CS is appalling and the forum "Dons" (sic) would fit in nicely at the BNP. :x While I don't normally condone / approve of criminal behaviour, I must admit that the DOS attack on their site made me chuckle.

As for the deal itself, as other have said I cannot justify paying this much for a video card when you could buy a 360 for less AND the video card will lose its value faster then a 4x4 petrol in a recession.

Have bought from OcUK many times before and have never had a problem, lucky? maybe.. But at £100 cheaper than anywhere else, this is a rediculously good deal.

Whats your problem with OcUK?
Where do I start.
1). They sent me a graphics card that was clearly already opened/used. The card itself was dusty and some of the contents were missing.
2). It took ages to contact customer services and when I did, I was informed I had to pay for postage back to them.
3). It took them two weeks to send the replacement card - and the idiots sent exactly the same one back to me.
4). They also charged my credit card (without permission) a testing fee. When I queried this they said the card was tested "not faulty". I did not return it because it was faulty but because it was not new. The idiots did not even read the RMA request.
5). I returned the USED card again (at my cost) and requested a full refund.
6). I only received a refund for the original purchase price. It took a long time to come through and I had to call their premium rate support line many times. I am still out of pocket for 2x delivery charges and one unauthorised "testing" fee.

They are unreliable, incompetent and dishonest. Is that enough?
#25
I wouldn't part with my money though even if it was half the current price - well not with OcUK

Useless outfit, but good price.
Hot for price
Cold for company

Warm overall I guess.

Well I've tried to post a link to it several times, but my post keeps getting deleted. Goto the Google "Shopping" tab and search for "OCUK". Next to their products, you'll find the "seller rating" which is currently 2.2/5. I've yet to find a company with a lower rating.

Hm, better image quality, or more than three decent releases per year. PC, or x360. Hm, decisions, decisions.

Voted cold because it's OCUK

£250 at scan, so £20 more if you can pick up/have a hexus or avforums free delivery account.

Everywhere will be reducing these from the original £300ish price due to the newer 285 and 295 coming out.

Personally wouldnt buy from overclockers either, between me and a housemate we have purchased 3 items from there and all 3 have had to be returned for rma immediately as they arrived faulty.

Excellent Price - paid this £ for my 4870 1GB (ebuyer) a few months ago.

But judging by the comments, a really poor company - I personally would'd take the chance.
#32
If anyone out there is unfortunate enough to have to contact them, this is their landline

01782 339616

You will get exactly the same person on the end as you will if you ring their ludicrously priced 0870 numbers.

But really don't touch them with a bargepole if you don't have to.
#33
I'm lucky (not sure if thats right) enough to to be able to visit OCUK, everytime I go in, there is someone complaing about a product and they don't seem to give a ****. I took a DOA router back with no problem though.
#34
I purchased an item from them about 2 weeks ago, with the impression of 'how bad can they mess up on one item?' but I was wrong

They did try to shove me off, but it just motivated me more to get my own back :-D

So now they'v agreed to give all my money back, already got another graphics card from scan :)

Fingers crossed I get my money back!

When Overclockers first started, Customer Service was great and the staff bent over backwards to help their customers. As they became more successful (and the cars in the parking lot got bigger and bigger), that success turned to greed and in turn has led to the world's worst Customer Service. I was once a loyal customer and have spent thousands with them. I have learned my lesson the hard way.

The exact opposite of Overclockers is Ebuyer. They started off poor, but have grown into a really professional and fast acting outfit.

their costumer service is ok. i have returned many items under warranty. some of them i broke intentionally so they wouldnt ask for a restock fee.

i even returned a Asus Xonar DX audio card bought from AWD-IT (which i knew they have a rubbish costumer support). I have swaped the stickers with ones from OC.uk audio card and the return worked.

i read posts above and i cant believe it. this is not overclockers i know. something must have changed. my last experiance with them was last year, and they still were ok besides the fact they censor your reviews

Perhaps they only provide decent service to dishonest people like themselves. Anyway, the deal seems to have expired now because the price has gone up.

I've shopped there for a few years and alway fonud them to be very helpful.

The problem I have always found when in the store is the people who moan and groan seem to have no clue as to what they are doing with their system. It's always someone else's fault and not theirs.

Where as ebuyer, now there is place thats gives really bad service!
