That much on a graphics card, surely these only appeal to businesses like EA?

Well they're aimed at enthusiasts rather than bargain hunters that's for sure. But they are £460+ everywhere else so £400 is going to be the best deal for a while I bet.

Nice user name you got there :p

There's a nice healthy 10 page (at the time of writing) at OCuk that only started this afternoon at 2pm on the release of this card. Guess what their main grumbles are? :-D :santa:

ridicoluously overpriced and 9800 gx2 beats it in majority of benchmarks.

Have we any dates for the new ATI 4870 cards? and what are these new Nvidia cards compared to the New ATI? - maybe i should wait for the benchies :)

I've heard the ATIs will be between £100 - £200...

The ATI 4850/4870 will be out on the 26th on June, last I heard. They will be quite a bit cheaper too, but not as fast.
#8
wow, i appreciate these have the most incredible processing power but the thought of spending that much money on a single component makes my ears bleed.

To add to that, 4850's sometime next week, 4870's likely to be early July.

??????????

I'm fairly sure that EA haven't released any games recently that would tax any card that was high end 3 years ago

i can see the 4870 x2 really kickin the cr*p outta these, shame they will be anouther few months
#13
the 4870 should be nearly on pair with the gtx280. That said if you do want the 280 wait until later this year when there's a die shrink of the gpu and the price should be much lower (and be faster)...

Only good if you want to try and play Crysis with all the settings on HIGH but I think I will stick to my xbox360 for now as the PC Games Market is pee poor by comparison and will only get worse with the amount of piracy knocking about.

Heres a link to a list of all the sites that have reviewed the GTX280.

Wow that's some serious outlay! Sod using that in SLI or whatever the dual card config is called. I'm stuck with lowly integrated Intel GM950! But I don't play games or do any heavy video editing. This card would be overkill for internet and my DVB TV stick!

The 4850 is being released in 2 hours time. The 4870 is suppose to be pushed back but there is a good chance they will still release the card next week.
As the card cant be listed yet you would need to search google to see who's selling it at what price.
