I thought I got a bad price when I paid £135 for this back in March or so, but it just keeps getting more expensive :o

I used to rely more on my shield tv, but my TV has gotten a lot of updates (used to only have netflix), and I can now watch iplayer, amazon video, youtube in 4K and plex on it, so the only thing I would actually get better via the shield is Netflix in HDR - but the HDR on my TV isn't that great.

Oh and for geforce game streaming of course!

I bought a 8 bit Pannie and its excellent. Settings need a bit of a fiddle. Have to say though that Neflix and Iplayer are better on shield. You can now get UHD content on iplayer. Shame the other on demand apps aren't working on the Shield, unless you cast channel 4 on demand. Fire TV stick has the ondemand apps and its Android too so whats the crack?

I think you misunderstood me - I was very happy with my shield, but my TV can now do most of the things I previously needed the shield for - and it's a nicer UI and only requires one remote control, so just easier :)

HotUKdeals is a fickle beast. Same deal yesterday was going hot until I expired it as sold out within half hour. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/nvidia-shield-16-gb-android-tv-box-with-controller-amazon-169-99-2576804

would this be because it has been discontinued?

Oh, it has? Then I would've expected the price to decrease even further, no? - or is it a collectable now, or just 'cause it's still the best (most powerful) device available in its class?

Stock has been limited all over since the £99 amazon sale. A new version is due early next year. As it's release this year slipped.

Well if its the best most powerful device in it's class and is now discontinued then obviously the price will be more as it's more sort after!

I've googled far and wide for details of the next version of this...never managed to find any details...have you got a link showing details please...or is this just hearsay and speculation?

The new Nintendo device has taken up all Nvidia resources, hence no tablet K1 either. The Nintendo is powered by Nvidia GPU and according to press this is why Nvidia Shield devices are rare.

it's not worth this kind of money. it's a good device but realistically should be under £100 these days. you can get a decent mini PC or NUC for this money.

I agree it should be around 100 mark. however it is a great kit. I'm using it a plex server. runs like a charm and low power consumption as well.

well someone likes it sold out again.

is it better then the new version?
I replaced my 16gb 2015 for the pro. The 16gb 2015 is better than the new 2017 model. Some of the features in the old model arnt present in the new. I did however update to the 2017 pro model which keeps all the features of the 2015 and adds a premium rechargeable remote and a nicely updated game controller with hepatic feed back. Pro it's a massive premium though. Personally I think it's worth the extra.

it is rather expensive to be fair... plan was that i would get the 16gb veesion and add a usb3 external drive to it for 60ish quid and thats 2tb... £250 for the pro... that more than PS4! oO ... what to do...

If your paying 169.99 your obviously like the fact your getting a premium machine. I went for the pro as I am running a plex server and my unit is also a dvr now too, I have a 2tb hard drive plugged in for media. Games and apps always run and load quicker of an internal drive. The 16gb is an excellent choice, but it will fill quickly. If you do go for a 16gb model make sure you go for the 2015 as its got IR and SD card slot. If getting a SD card expect to pay £40 for a highspeed card otherwise games and apps stored on it wont run well and it will take the premium feel away.
