British communications giant O2 have announced a new super low-cost internet package, claiming to offer the best value for money in the UK.

The package promises to save money without compromising on performance or allowance. O2 is offering download speeds of up to 20Mbit/s for two different prices - £.79 per month for existing O2 customers, and £14.68 for new O2 customers, with absolutely no bandwidth limit!

"It has been a truly fantastic first year for O2 Home Broadband," said Peter Rampling, marketing director at O2. "And with the new broadband services providing even better value, speed and service, we think both new and existing customers are going to love them even more."

O2 are also serving up a "Pro" package for very heavy users as well as small businesses, which provides an enhanced router with better wireless coverage and better 'reliability'. Customers will also receive upload speeds of up to 2.5Mbit/s, prioritised customer service and a free static IP address, on top of the allowances given to regular customers.

adsl speeds fluctuate depending on the distance from the exchange and line quality and since BT's is a really old infrastructure they fluctuate a LOT 1km from exchange you could expect around 13-20 anything more is anyones guess

No catch....just need a mobile contract with them I guess, and hope they've unbundled your local telephone exchange! They've not done mine...so no point for me!!!

I assume this requires a BT landline? I'm with VirginMedia right now but will move house some time next year so will probably check this out then. Seems almost too good to be true though, any thoughts on how they can offer broadband at this price?

Aye I think there is a typo on that website at .79, On the tenner a month package here using the discount as an included mobile customer.

The report is 100% wrong and due to misreading a mistyped posting that omitted at 9 ie it's £9.79.

Their new Premium package, announced 18 Dec, is £9.79/m for o2 mobile customers but gives you FULL regular ADSL2+ Annex A service - ie upto 20Mbps IF you are v.close to your exchange + 200 online SMS/month + other extras. They also offer another 3 ADSL & ADSL2+ packages.
