Didnt know wether to post this in this category but here goes. I called the carphone warehouse to cancel my contract that was at the end of its term. They did all the usual like offering me a new phone etc etc but i remained adamant that i wanted to close it.
The guy on the other end then offered me what i consider to be a great deal...
Keep the contract going for another 18 months, get 275 anytime, any network minutes and 250 anytime any network texts for the princely sum of £5 per month inc VAT..
A no brainer really...so just thought if anyone was coming to the end of their contract on O2 with the carphone warehouse go for it...what can you buy for a fiver these days?
Unsure if it will work with O2 direct, but maybe worth a try.......

4 months ago got 250 muns 400 text didnt take a phone upgade got 100 pound credit all for 10 pound a month or 20 quid for the year. so yes always worth being adamant
i got 400 minutes and 400 text for a fiver (24mths contract), o2 has always been better than the rest at trying to keep you, for a while they kept renewing a 1000 min off peak I had for £20 the whole year!
they offered me 400 cross net mins an unlimited texts for £15pm
Hey just check ur bill when It comes in,

I got promised 300 anytime mins and 500 text messages for £10 per month and guess what when my bill came in it was £40, nearly feel off my seat, Phoned the customer services and they said their was nothing that they could do, so I wrote a big nasty letter to the head office and one week later it was sorted and my next bill was in credit.

This has happened to a couple of my friends, so just keep your eyes pealed
This is known as a Retention deal.
But be careful as previous poster states. - Its not always a cheap deal!!!
And yes, you can go direct to the company however... you need to call them and say you want to cancel..or request a PAC (keeping your number) code and they will call you up and ask why you want to leave and get you a good deal!!
Not worth it if you ask me...
I too have found O2's retention deals to be Fab - however the 'back-office' part in amending your account to the new offer leaves a lot to be desired - 2 years running when taking up a new deal they've really screwed up the account, putting me on a higher tarriff than agreed, resulting in several call-backs to adjust the account, and re-adjust the account when they got it wrong a second time!
They promised me 275mins and 250 txt for £5 per month based on a 24month contract.
I said ok, turns out they lied to me..actually got 75mins and 250 texts!

The thing to remember with O2 retention deals (and perhaps other mobile companies too?) is that they depend on your previous average spend.

What you get offered as a rention deal may be better or worse than someone else simply because of your previous average spend.
I renewed my contract 2 months ago and got 600 anytime minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited O2 to O2 for £10 a month on a 18 month contract. If you do your homework on what is already on offer you can get a deal.

Yes, but they will still LIE to sell you a new deal!
As this is for my lad, i think its a good deal, i would have got him a PAYG sim, and been putting a tenner on it a month, so a fiver seems pretty good....Ill watch the bill tho to see what i get...
These are worth doing regardless of cost I have found, as they normally screw the billing up every other month. Dont bother phoning just write a letter to Cath Keers (Customer Director) to get goodwill credits on the account. They seem to really struggle with getting the discounts right. Now on my 2nd retention deal.
o2 have recently doubled my minutes and texts and not even told me, cant complain other than I'd rather pay £5 less and get half as much as I'll never use 2000 texts and 1000 minutes.

Also for anyone on o2 if you didnt know to check what youve got remaining on your tariff for the month send a blank text to 21202 and you'll get a free text back with the info. not sure if it works for payg customers on o2 though.
O2 retainers are great if you've been loyal to them for a while. I took out a 2nd contract with them to get an N95 when they were released while I was 6 months into my normal 12 month contract that I've had running for a few years.

When the original contract was at an end I called to cancel since I had the new one. The woman was *very* insistent that I reconsider as I had a good loyalty bonus due. I was also insistent that I wasn't using all the minutes of my new contract and it still had 12 months remaining so why would I want to renew and pay for the original one.

When she offered me unlimited O2 to O2, 600 mins anytime & 1000 texts for £10 a month for 18 months I told her I was tempted but there was still no point in taking it. She told me she hadn't finished as since I didn't want a new phone she could give me £180 credit on my account.

As you can imagine I took the offer of 18 months free, but still probably have only used about 30mins over the past 4 months!

Bet u cant beat

400 mins xnet
1000 texts
Unlimited WAP
Free o2 to o2 calls
Rollover texts and mins

All for 15quid a month including a free phone!
02 under the CPW is NOT the same as 02 direct, so there will be different deals. CPW has their "own" 02 where they run the customer service etc. CPW, for example, will often offer you a cashback deal for retention. I am now on a £0.00 p/m deal for 12 months with 400 mins 100 txt.
