o2 Home Phone Line Rental & Broadband £15.50

o2 are launching a home phone line from 15th January. I called them yesterday to cancel my broadband. They said home phone service will cost £10.50 per month with evening and weekend calls free and offered this together with broadband for £15.50 per month. o2 are generally good and have UK based customer service. Price will be £5 extra for non o2 customers.
My first post so let me know if need to make any changes.

£15.50 for line rental and broadband? Sounds good
#4
Does that include the discount for O2 mobile customers?

great 1st post! heat and rep for it!

great deal. Had o2 broadband in the past when at my dads house (was under Be* before) and they've been great. At £15.50 a month, i'm going to then when my virgin contract is up for renewal in march!

The OP says " Price will be £5 extra for non o2 customers." so i guess that answers your question!
sorry, it's a bit early!

I must be being a bit blind this morning, is this advertised on the O2 site - because I can't see it!
#9
Doesn't matter - predictably I'm still outside their core area so I can't bloody well get it!

Yep - I have been waiting ages for them to come to my area

I participated in a O2 home phone trial last year as I had broadband and mobile already with them. It worked via VOIP at the time so all calls (both national and international) were "free." I am looking forward to the details to come out later this month!

19/10/2006 BT have set a target date of Q1 2009 for the switch to 21CN for the M£$%^m exchange

My local exchange - guess they've slipped somewhat.......
#13
do you still have to pay bt line rental
#14
I'm a big fan of O2 but this will only be of use if they make a few extra services (caller display for one) completely free. Or what else are they going to do to entice us bargain hunters? £15.50 PM is pretty good for landline and a quality ADSL2 service for sure.

Can't see any other reason for moving my landline account from BT TBH unless I get some nice sweeties.

Let's see what they're going to offer.

I moved from Sky Broadband to O2 without problems. My landline was, and still is, provided by Sky.

I guess if I was to cancel my TV package with them, I'd have to move my phone too, but now that O2 are doing landlines it means I don't have to face the horror of BT!

Currently you only have to top-up £10-15 every 3 months if I recall correctly. I have a PAYG phone and don't use much at all, but i've never paid more than the £7.34 / month for broadband.

All the best,
Ash

I've had o2 broadband (LLU) for about two years and it has been rock solid. Same for PAYG mobile.
Seriously considering this home phone offer now

Where's the deal? no info available, no details, no small print, not even any large print so how can it be a deal on heresay?
#22
stick with BT for line rental, if you move want to go back to them they can charge you £100+

I believe you have to put a minimum of £10 credit on every 3 months to get the discounts.

I have been with o2 brodband for 12 months now on the 16Mb unlimited service, lightning fast compared to my old Tiscali service. My modem is synched with our exchange at @15700kbps downstream and @1350kbps upstream which is excellent as we are about a mile away from it.

No they don't. If you've already get a line installed to your house then they don't charge you anything. I just switched back to them in Dec-although they did make an absolute mess of bringing my number from Virgin so I've cancelled them already.
#27
I Have 02 Broadband any not had any problems since I transferred from SKY some 2 Years.

Id go along with the other guys keep the BT line just in case you want to change your ISP it's a lot easier and a lot less hassle to change ISP when you have a BT LINE .

As for the cheap calls I use www.18185.co.uk and route everything through them all calls are free
you just pay a connection fee of 5p with billing monthly you cant go wrong .

You can even buy a call diverter so you dont have to keep on dialling the aceess no .
#28
Expired already? :(

Just called them...

I'm a TalkTalk customer and i want to move over to O2 but i would need to move to BT first before O2 can seize my line for their service - not good!

However, they tell me in Feburary they'll have this new policy in place where they can take over phone lines which are tied up with non-BT providers.

The Future is bright, the future is ...no wait.. that's orange! (",)

I'm guessing that until it's made public, it's just speculation, and so there is no deal, yet.

They normally charge £122.50 but there is currently a special offer on so its free (subject to 18month contract)

I mean their callcentres are in the UK and not in India. What do you think it means?

The few times I have had to ring them up their service was OK and things got done. Their customer service number is (or was at the time) an 0800 number and that includes Tech Support too.

The Be* Broadband on which O2 is based use a Bulgarian call center, ironically they are even better than the UK O2 team :whistling:

If you google sam knows it's a website that gives tech info on your exchange and when it's due to be upgraded, very useful info
#37
I just called O2 re this and the customer services said that the line rental is not something they offer and this certainly was not going to happen on 15/01/10. He would not pass comment on whether this was a possible option in the future either!

You only get charged that if you don't already have a BT line in place at your property. If there is a disused line already in place then normally you can reconnect for free. They also do offers for new installs from time to time so you can again avoid the £125 fee.
#39
i'm with o2 broadband and have had lots of problems, but with my bt line. 9 times out of 10 i get an operator who doesn't understand anything. Second line are good, first line...idiots.
