O2 MiFi Pocket Hotspot and 1GB data £35.10

O2 are currently running a half price sale on their PAYG MiFi units when bought with data (the unit on it's own costs £60)

Last month they had this exact same offer and I got this for my parents as I didn't want the hassle of a contract. It then expired before I could post here but it's now back on till the end of this month.

You also get double the data on your first and every third top up.

I went for the £37.65 "Pocket Hotspot including 2GB data" as you get more data on the unit to start with.

Also Quidco tracked at £5, so it should work out to be a net £32.65.

a few items people may find useful, although O2 say next day delivery - they use royal mail standard post and it can take upto 5 days !
Also they are locked and have the O2 firmware on, and there is no data usage calculator on these (not on the display or the web interface :( They can be unlocked but not easily and not for free (at least that i have seen)

If I remember right, I ordered it on Sat 22/12 and received it on Thu 27/12 which was next day, and I don't think it was Royal Mail standard post, as I did call them up to verify as I needed it before the New Years weekend.

I ordered one and the website states next day, which was what i was expecting, when it did not arrive i called and they said they group these as accessories and therefor send them out by royal mail and delivery times are upto 5 days - arrived 3 days after i ordered it.

Did you know you can check your balance here:

Just input your number and click "sign in" then click "skip" on the following page and it then gives you your balance.

£38. I wanted the E586 that Three do, but you can only get that on a contract I believe so thought this was the best way. Plus it was the only one in my local store as I needed instant gratification. This O2 one looks just as good though.

Ordered it on Friday 25th, Recieved today. Delivered by UK Mail.

I will try to unlock it tonight, DC-unlocker seems a good option. But i will try the following first:

http://unlockdf.blogspot.com/2012/08/bam-zte-mf60-unlocked.html <-- according to comments, might not work.

Z

Any luck with the unlock?

The free method didn't work, some issue with the version not matching, apparently this is possible to bypass reading comments on that webpage, but i didnt have patients to wait for a response to my comment. so i paid the 7EUROS to DC unlocker (6.24GBP) and got it unlocked, no issues, straightforward and simple.

Z

Nice one, thanks.

If one didn't use it for a couple of months - would a top work later on or do the T&C's state that its has to be continually kept in a 'topped up' state as otherwise it will stop working? - I want one for the summer but to be honest I have little use for one now...
#17
If I get this, unlock it, then use a prepaid 3GB '3' sim in it.....how can I check my usage? Do 3 have something that shows onscreen or is it not that simple? Or do I need to use the 3 version of this device for stuff like that? In other words....will it basically act the same (once unlocked and with a 3 sim inserted) as an official 3 one?

If this is Huawei e586 then the free unlock won't work as it was blocked by the software. Nevertheless you do not need to use DC Unlocker. Just go to eBay and buy unlock code for £0.99. Done this number of times and works fine.

Personally I prefer the three E586 device, has a dock and usage calculator! Couple it with 10GB for £15 a month (rolling/30 contract) and its brilliant!

Im pretty sure you can pick them up on Tmobile for cheaper and a better device too!

Is the usage calculator accurate or just an estimated type of thing?

Does anyone know if the Three E586 device is unlockable?

Yes, its on the dot accurate but just be aware that once it passes 1GB the calculator will only display it at 2 decimal places. i.e. my device is currently on 2.98GB where as before it reaches 1GB it will show i.e 948.48 MB.

But as you can only have tarrifs of a rounded off GB this shouldn't really matter.

And Yes they can be unlocked very easily via Ebay code, mine is unlocked however I prefer using Three cause they have the best tarrifs for me :)

The devices are not produced by T-Mobile or Three. They are produced by Huawei. T-mobile uses huawei e586. Three has Huawei e586 as well as e5331.

The devices from Three and T-mobile mentioned are in both cases Huawei e586 and they can be unlocked using code from eBay.

I think it has to be android / Apple phone and have such option. Also network needs to allow such action

Don't see that option on the three site.

Im not an idiot, but different companies have different firmware on there and I still believe his comment is justified, especially as everyone knows 3 devices such as phones aren't as easily unlocked as others.

It really is, they do 1GB for £7.50 but as I use it for XBOX live that just isnt enough for me... this is great also because you're not tied into a contract and no credit checks needed, just a working debit card :)

NOTE: You can get £34.34 cash back via top cash back as well so basically over 2 months free :)

Don't get so angry. I have unlocked both of them and firmware is the same, except for branding. If you get Huawei e586 you can only unlock it via DC Unlocker or if you have a code. Cheapest codes are on eBay.

I take it, though, that if one goes over the 10gb limit, charges start racking up (rather than it just cutting off)?
