Do you have to access the BT Openzone through the dongle or do you get a login to use it straight to wifi?

It uses their o2 manager software in conjunction with the USB dongle and your laptops WiFi - ie you MUST have an active PAYG 1/7/30 day subscription running at the time.
PS: eg on Win XP the o2 Manager software takes over the WiFi connection from the standard Windows WiFi tool (and integrates the option to dialup via the dongle if there's a modem phone signal.)

With my blackberry, I have a wifi hotspot login in my bookmarks - set by O2 obviously, and only available when using the built in browser. Should be similarly straightforward with the dongle I would think.

30 day free or forever. That is what I would like to know as well, and what I was told by the lad in O2. Can anyone please confirm?

Don't take my word for it, but apparently you can use this: DCCRAP to unlock the modem.

£2 is the PAYG fee for the lowest amount of usage - ie 1 day (max 200MB phone data) with unlimited WiFi; they used to do a 1 week too but now see only 1 month (max 2GB phone data from Sep) for £15 with unlimited WiFi. (Hadn't used mine since March, so behind with their tariffs.)

then I will choose T-mobile definitely
T-moible offer 20pounds for 6 month, really unlimited data(3GB fair usage, but if it goes over 3GB, no charge)

Re unlocking - look at the FAQ on the o2 website - says after six months the o2 PAYG can be unlocked for free - THOUGH not sure if that's six elapsed months, or six months worth of purchased PAYG usage time.
