Seems to be a good price for the USB dongle as most seem more expensive. The pay as you go tariffs seem not too bad considering you get un-limited free Wi-Fi access thrown in!

O2 USB 3G Modem 160E on Pay & Go
PC & Mac compatible
Plug & Play installation
Connection speeds up to 3.6Mbps

After the initial purchase price of the USB modem the costs are as follows:

Daily 500MB + unlimited Wi-Fi £2 per day
Weekly 1GB + unlimited Wi-Fi £7.50 per week
Monthly 3GB + unlimited Wi-Fi £15 per month

Terrible price plans and latency though.

But for those interested - don't forget Quidco

24 month contract for 3gb - £150

18 month contract for 3gb - £100

;-)

I this better than the vodafone offer though?

could i use an iphone 3g sim card in one of these? Would let me make better use of my unlimited internet :-D

As always the offers differ enough for comparisons to be difficult, and they seem to meet different needs.

As I understand the Voda is £39 (less £10 quidco opportunity) including 1GB of data (no time limit, or perhaps over 12m, ie not day/wk/month) and then £15 per further 1GB = lot more expensive IF you need the data and no WiFi, but cheaper if you just wanted an occasional usage/backup...

Depends on your network coverage and usage I would say.

From what I have read, the Vodafone one doesn't have an expiry on the data allowance you buy so for an occasional user it would probably be better.

The £15 option for 3GB and unlimited wi-fi on the Ow would be great for someone who uses it a fair bit and is comparable to some contracts which cost the same.

Prices seem not too bad to me? Vodafone charge £15 for 1GB with no free Wi-Fi access! With O2 you get 3GB and all the Wi-Fi access you can find!

Why should the latency be any worse than other providers?

Never said it was any worse than the other providers. I just said in essence that it is too dear and the latency is terrible.

What do you do with wifi access that does not affect Bandwidth allowance though ?

Good idea. I would do the same.

Check before buying to use iPhone sims in it. I heard Voda PAYG dongles are locked to PAYG sims only. Prob be ok but would be good if someone could confirm it works with a Pay Monthly Sim.

The Free Wi-Fi at thousands of hot-spots is free! It does not affect your 3G data allowance (just as on a iPhone contact).

Why do you need a dongle to get free wi-fi
Can't a laptop just connect wirelessly anyway?
#13
Suppose I get the Pay & Go dongle for £29.35. That comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot account right, but does anyone know if this account expires?
E.g. I buy the dongle but do not load it with the daily/weekly/monthly packages, will I still continue to have access to Wi-Fi hotspots?

If so, that sounds like a good deal to me. £30 for unlimited wi-fi access until (forever??)..

plus the possibility to pay £2 and get access for a day anywhere else..
#14
I still dont get the free wi-fi thing -
my laptop connect without a dongle for free in places like Mcdonalds?
#16
The free Wi-Fi at hotspots (that normally charge) only works for the period of the 3G access you pay for.

So if you pay for a month you get free Wi-Fi for a month, if you pay for a day then Wi-Fi is free for the day.

There are some free Wi-Fi hotspots but there are far more chargeable ones!

Hi all.

I bought one of these days ago.

I just received an email saying they will refund the DONGLE I bought cause they don;t have it in stock anymore.

I sent another one, saying I WANAT one, doesn't matter if is the WHITE or BLACK model, cause I need it.

What should I do in order to be sure they will send me one?

Another thing...

Does anybody knows which is the best service for PAY& GO internet? O2 or ORANGE?
I'm already an ORANGE customer, but for PAY & GO mobile.

I'm actually thinking to buy O2 because maybe I'll move to USA this year an I want to be able to use the service there.
Anyway, the NOW is more important.

If O2 is better I'll go for O2 anyway.

The same as for an unlocked mobile phone, being able to put in a simcard from a competing network
#22
if you have for example a sim card from an iphone which gives free internet can you transfer it onto the dongle? or will you still have to pay a monthly fee for the dongle?
#23
The dongle in this deal thread is a PAYG modem. One time cost of £29.35. Assuming a simcard from an iPhone works in there (I don't have personal experience so can not confirm) then the only cost you need to keep paying is for the contract the iPhone is on.

Hey all.

I need to know what to do to cuy from O2 the Dongle they're announcing?

I sent an email saying I need it, to know what they will they.

Just think that as it's announced and online, they should provide it.
Isn't it?
#25
it lets you connect to the cloud network, your laptop can see them but not use them. usually.

i've got a sim form an iphone with credit on it, can't seem to get it to actually connect tot he net though, anyone figured it out ??
#26
Got one of these a few days ago. It was a black E160 and said it was 'sim free' on the delivery note. Am using it with a Voda data card from Ebay. Just needed to istall the Voda utility to connect.
