I don't think everyone has <3 for quidco, so this is a decent deal considering you won't need to top up

Nope, this dongle doesn't have wifi, when it says you can use it on wifi hotspots, it means you get access to O2 hotspots via your own wifi card.

nope, wi-fi uses the 802.11 protocol where as these dongles work on 3g cell networks

you require something like this:

Buy via Quidco and get the o2 dongle £14.xx
+ 30d/3GB/Wifi usage £15.00
- £29.xx cashback
= NIL net cost for dongle + 30d/3GB/WiFi usage!
so if it isn't for you then it's cost you nothing!

If the answer to this is 'yes', I assume it is free to use if you have free data allowance on your phone sim? There aren't T's&C's stating it needs a 'special' data package is there?

if you are getting this, i would recommend finding on ebay a o2 iphone 3g sim pack (£2-£4). which, when you top up once with £10 you get a years worth of free 3g :)
#17
I bought one of these a while ago (paid a lot more) with idea of paying to get it unlocked and use with my vodafone broadband sim as have danmaged the old dongle. Found that it was already unlocked and my voda sim worked stright away.

Im not sure if this is true with all of these O2 dongles (as for example the one from "3" needs unlocking if u want to use a different sim).

Yes, I have tried it. I am on the o2 Simplicity £19.xx tarriff, with the free bolt on mobile internet. I have used it a few times in the dongle, and internet has been very fast and I haven't been contacted by o2 or banned yet, so I guess it is alright.

However, note that I have only used it occassionally, and not as a primary internet source, so it could be if you are using your sim card in it 24/7 or for heavy downloading you might be banned from o2.
#19
so, does this provide you with free internet access or do you have to pay a monthly subscription/pay and go service? My mobile phone is with Orange not O2 does that exclude me?

SOrry to sound like a complete thicko i just don't understand this!

Do these work long term in the dongle? So you can get free (albeit £10 for the dongle and £3 sim setup cost) mobile internet? Humm, defnialy worth a try anyways.

Also do you need to ring O2 to setup the dongle or anything?

I would imagine dude that the dongle will be pre-configured.. its just a case of topping up the simcard.

Also read the small print if ordering the dongle @ o2 via quidco.. as it states you need to top up by £15 inorder to get your cash back.. definately something to watch for.

I just ordered a sim and the dongle etc.. in total after cashback etc its costing me £1 for a years free internet now :D

A couple of months ago I paid £10 for mine delivered, which already had the top up added, so was ready to go out of the box. The same seller has now doubled the price, so demand is clearly outstripping supply. Can't be long before O2 puts a stop to this.

Ooo sounds good i will get on and order what i need tonight then. (Ebay blocked in work)

Thanks for the heads up guys, will be handy for when i work away etc.

Not worth getting these now, you think they would be so cheap if they lasted.

Dont last longer than a month now, 2 months at most
#28
O2 has upgraded the Wi-Fi connection software for its mobile-broadband customers, making it possible for them to use BT's Openzone hotspots. [full story on today's ZDNet]

They have and they send a text message stating that you are using the sim in a non iphone. If you have a mate with a iphone just take the sim and make a couple of calls from the iphone every month. That seems to prolong the usage of the sim.
#30
hi does anyone know how to buy through quidco? thanks
#31
So are these iPhone sim not worth getting now? Or will the trick about putting it in an iPhone every now and again work, as it wouldnt be my primary internet source anyway but just for occasional use.

Hi,

Does the credit expire on this?

i.e can I keep the £15 on there and just pay £2 for a day here and a day there whenever I want to use it or will the credit expire after a month like it would on a 3 one?

Thanks,

Ian

This is what I also want to know, this is the only reason i am not buying a PAYG dongle, as I would only use it a couple of times a year when i am on holiday.

If this credit does expire, then is there any other providers whose credit doesn't expire?

i wonder if it depends if you abuse the fair use policy. if they determine that you downloaded 10gb from your iphone which wouldnt be reasonable, they would disconnect you, but if you did a few hundred megs or so it would be fine..

im going to give it a shot and given what Gavin01 said about doing a couple calls from an iphone every month i can live with that since i have some

So far, nobody has come forward and said that he has been cut off. The automatic text message is just a reminder that the sim is only to be used in an iPhone and not a warning of impending cancellation of service. However, this little trick has become quite well known, hence the big price rises on eBay and O2 may in the future take a stricter view of things. I have used it about three times, now and only downloaded about 45MB, most of which was spam email. :|

Vodafone does this one for £39, it comes with 1 gig allowance : http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-broadband-price-plans/usb-stick

The top up is £15 per gig but no 30 day expiry.

As far as I know Vodafone are the only ones doing non expiring top ups.

Don't forget quidco or topcashback for £10 cashback

This sounds too good to be true? Can anyone confirm if this works with a PAYG USB dongle from o2 and 'why' o2 are letting this happen?

I've got mine cut off a month later. Used it for abt 5-10 mins of browsing on my way to work for about a mth before they clocked on. It was mostly wikipedia, google, tfl etc though, no massive dl or anything. So it may not be to due with the amount you dl

It's not really Woolworths though, is it? It's Shop Direct, parent company of Littlewoods. I wouldn't spend a dime with them personally.
