Previously had to wait 12 months. Although not strictly a deal hopefully this will help some people as o2 have recently changed their policy.

"You can unlock your iPhone for a one-off cost of £14.69. You'll pay for this from the money topped-up on your phone."

Some people are saying that o2 unlocked their handset for free by giving them either a different persons details whos been with o2 for a while or using details from a simplicity contract

But if you unlock your iPhone less than 12 months after you bought it, we'll take off the free Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On (that we added for the first 12 months). You can buy a Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On for £10 a month when you fill in the unlocking form

Yep.

The people that want to unlock the iPhone want to use it on another network so that shouldnt matter. Means that hopefully thats the end of people having to jailbreak their iPhone to unlock it and worry about not being able to upgrade.

i think this network lock should be banned in this country. its just a scam and a pain in the neck. needless trouble for people. it doesnt keep me with one company, nor most others i see on this. the best deals keep me.
seasons greetings folks.

Networks subsidise the cost of handsets and so in return for getting a cheaper phone they have it locked to their network

Either do this or do what i did and i used my friends name and phone number etc. and gave them My IMEI number and my phone was unlocked within two days:D
#6
This is good news previously you they would only unlock PAYG after 12 months, time to unlock mine and get my T-mobile contract sim in it
#7
I'm having soooo much trouble trying to get mine unlocked. Have asked for the 3rd time on 13th Dec (the guy I bought it off is doing the emailing for me, as he has a contract with O2 but got the iPhone from O2 for his upgrade) so will wait patiently. I don't care even having to pay £15, just want it sorted really!! Anyone know anyone who could push this through for me (LOL!)
#8
Some people seem to get theirs done in a few days while others take way longer than the 14 days. Not fair is it!
#9
Dam this is what stopped me buying one on pay as go as i didnt want to wait 12months before they would unlock it so went and got it on contract a month ago.

O2 unlocked mine (PAYG on a Simplicity contract) for free using my Simplicity SIM/number.

Given that they'll do it without an actual iPhone SIM - grab a freebie PAYG SIM, use that to unlock it and keep your web/wifi bolt on :P.
#11
So, I've had mine for about 12 months now. Can I get this done for free? And if so, how?

I'm using the Ultrasn0w method at the moment.

Carphone Warehouse wouldn't sell you an unlocked O2 iPhone.
When I asked about one they quoted me about a grand for SIM free!!!
What's that all about. I ended up with an O2 one for £440 and just had it jailbroken to unlock.
Wish I had done this though now, shame they never mentioned this before!!
#16
I have a 3 sim in at the moment. Don't want to put the O2 sim back in, can I just quote my new 3 number and still get the phone unlocked??
#17
Some advice please... i bought my iphone on pay as you go... but im using the pay monthly o2 simplicity sim with it right now... how would i go about unlocking my phone?

Dont think that would work. As most likely o2 will check up the number on their systems.
#19
are we saying you can use any O2 payg sim and not just the iphone one to get the unlock ?

I had 2 iPhone 3GS PAYG unlocked that were using simplicity plans, no problems at all. You just put your simplicity number in instead of the PAYG number when filling the unlocking form.
#22
ok,slightly off topic, but seeing as everyone reading this board prob has an iphone here goes lol

i want an iphone and wondering what the battery life is like?am used to sony ericcsons and getting a good 3/4 days without charging, recently got a nokia 5800 and struggle to get a day without even making a call
#23
Well its going to depend on how you use the phone really. If the screens on it uses power. If the 3D graphics accelerator is used or using the GPS or playing music through the loudspeaker, its using more power.
#24
as a rough guideline for simple text/calls,thats what i did on the 5800 yesterday and the battery was flat after 23 hours
#25
Same here - A day of heavy use if your lucky. Don't know about light use, as again, I'm always on it.

When at work its charging off my computer, at home its on charge overnight and if driving it's on incar charge.

But then it isn't 'just a phone' it's like a mini computer. Couldn't imagine not having one now.
#26
Thanks for that - I've used the form :)
#27
Well as a stress test (because I just got mine) I left the iPod playing at max volume through the loudspeakers and it lasted something like 6 hours (but not too sure).
#28
if you just want to unlock your iphone to use with any sim just go on youtube and seach for blackra1n

I'm surpised no one has asked this yet:

Could I walk into a Carphone Warehouse tomorrow, buy an iPhone, activate it with o2 sim on the same day, then fill out the form on o2's website to unlock it (and use it on 3)? Would that work?

I can't see why not and if o2 don't just use ultrasn0w and unlock it

Well I am asking that because I have just ordered a "factory unlocked" phone from ebay for not much more than it would have cost to buy from Carphone Warehouse + the cost of unlock. But the bloody delivery company has lost the parcel so I am interested in this whilst I wait for my refund

From what I've read, the factory unlocked ones work with 3 without a problem. When o2 unlocks it, does it not revert to a "factory unlock" state? Why would it work on 3 using one method but not the other?

I also don't want to unlock it via jailbreak as there is no guarantee that these will be future-proof with upcoming firmware updates. I'd much rather have a "clean" phone that I can then jailbreak, just in case the latest firmware isn't jailbreakable.
#36
mines ultrasn0wed not factory unlocked
#37
with 3 sim, it just never found the network
#38
Does 'Letting it Rain' using Blackra1n unlock the network as well?
#39
Hot :)

Can anyone confirm,if you can keep using the same sim to unlock several iPhones?

Click the link, fill out the unlock form, and bingo they will text you back within 14 days, normally within 2 days,to confirm if they will unlock, you have to update via itunes to the newest firmware which is 3.1.2

To unlock, once you receive confirmation from them, you simply place any other sim apart from o2,then restore via itunes, and bingo...it's say's on itunes unlock sucessful ::-D
