Sony Ericsson W995
* 8.1 Megapixel Camera
* 8GB memory card included
* Size :97 x 49 x 15mm
* Built in Wi-Fi & GPS

£35 Quidco available through http://www.quidco.com/o2/

Good phone, and fairly cheap contract price, no cashback/redemptions involved, a simple contract direct from a provider. However,it is a 24month contract but at £15 a month with one of the later/latest handsets its a good deal. Mainly for those who text alot, and use minimal calling.

To get this deal, you need to go to the Pay Monthly tariffs in the navigation menu on the left, click on 24 months tab, scroll down towards the bottom and go into Online 15 section and select the W995.

Yup, O2's bolton data charges are rubbish too. £7.50 p/m. And their 3g coverage aint up to much
#5
not everyone needs internet and if your budget is quite low, around the £10-20 mark you cant expect a contract to have a quality phone, internet nad unlimited texts at say £15, so something must be comprised and even with internet its a nice phone and does calls/text, although i do agree internet is quite useful these days on phones, but wifi is available for hotspots and openzones and around the home etc

24 months @£15 = £360 for a locked phone crippled/branded by o2. In particular o2 branding removes GPS functionality and google maps which is a serious loss. 24 months is too long. 100 minutes is no use. This phone demands internet and there is no point buying it without. and o2's 3g network is sparse, overloaded and slow. On w995 I've never been able to get it to connect to a javascript probe type wifi service such as The Cloud or BT Openzone either - I might be doing something wrong but I wouldn't bet on wifi out and about, which makes 3g even more important.

Surely phone for £200 from Phones 4u, unlocked and unbranded is a much better deal. Then buy a SIM-only deal to suit or PAYG.

Oh, and o2 doesn't stream iPlayer over 3g, which 3 and Vodafone will. Not that I'd ever recommend 3.

There's always Wifi for occasional users.

well good luck trying to get unlimited texts out of a PAYG sim, and like thunder said, wifi is available for around the home, and those who need internet can buy the bolt on, or try a different contract, im not forcing this upon anyone just posting it incase it helps someone after a nice phone with unlimited texts and doesnt mind about mins too much for a generally cheap contract price
#9
02 do a simplicity sim for £20 with 400 minutes and 1200 texts and free internet for £20 a month rolling contract. quite a good deal
#10
yeh for £5 more with no free phone...? all you get there is free internet (and o2 arent very great for 3g anyway) and 300extra mins
#11
Well i just bought a 2995 on ebay brand new for £160 so its gonna be a good deal
#13
I think this is deal of 2010 so far. the amount of peole getting the phone for £30 is amazing
#14
£17 cheaper on T-mobile and more flexibility (on package and phone):

£10 per month gives 100 mins, 100 texts and free flexible booster (choose from mins, unlimited texts or unlimited internet). That's £120 cheaper over 24 months.

However, £103 for the phone (but potentially discounted if call them) making £17 cheaper than O2.

Also offers the same £35 cashback (TopCashBack and presumably Quidco).

This is not a good phone at all. I only had mines for a few weeks before the Sony Ericsson logo peeled off, as well as the writing on the back that said 8.1 Megapixels. A few days after that, the phone started turning off randomly for no apparent reason every couple of hours. Ended up sending it off to Mizuno mobile as "working" and got about £100 for it. ;)
#18
These kinda phones are old school nowadays.......and 8 mega pixels, doesnt actually look that good when you take pics with them.....and to top it all off, your stuck for 24 months.....gets a cold from me....

Agree. I don't need many mins a month, but loads of texts and the internet would be handy. Think I'm going to hold out for the HTC Legend and Desire in just over a month. Hopefully, they'll then be available on the deal, so fingers-crossed about the handset price.

I got this phone free from T-Mobile on my contract - great phone, fantastic camera and great sound from the internal speaker and the additional external speakers are top notch given their size.

pixels don't mean squat without a good lense

This would be great for the kids who mainly text and only occasionally use phone to check back home. May get my son to look at it.
Plus they like to mess around with the camera and looks Ok for music.
Thanks

If you're not in the market for a touchscreen phone then the specs on this Sony are actually top drawer. The camera is also a good quality unit from the reviews, ie. decent optics and electronics, unlike cheap 8 mega pixel cameras which is what you're obviously quoting.

Ive had this phone since it came out last June, and I can honestly say its the best phone I had had by a country mile, yes the stickers do come off easily (I just glued them back on haven't budged since). Good camera (with GPS geo tagging), 3.5mm earphone jack, WIFI, and a decent free external speaker. You also get access to free movies every month from Sony ericssons Play Arena web site.

whoever compared this to a hero is stupid, they are two different ends of the phone market, this has physical buttons which some like, also partly a dedicated music phone, and many teens do like this feature just as most teens prefer texting rather than calls... im 17 and got the W595 defintely not as good as this phone, but the music is provides is top notch beats my ipod touch anyway, love my ipod touch though and due to the 16gb i use it for music instead of the phone, but thats besides the point...
not disputing that the hero deal is a cracking one, and if i wasnt in contract i would probably go for it myself, but dont knock this deal just because theres other deals about too which involve completely different phones..

Nice spot - I was able to order this on a 24mth contract for just £10 per month going through the upgrade option and choosing the following tarrif :D

O2 10 Bonus
24 months
100 txts/ 75 mins

Saves me £5 per month on my current tarrif and gets me a nice shiney new phone :D

I went for a C905 over this phone. Whereas this looks good, is thinner and has a slightly bigger screen, SE decided to kit this baby out with a ****** spot led flash whereas the C905 has xenen. It makes allot of difference when taking pictures, even though they are both 8mp camera phones.

Personally, this is what i would do if you definately wanted this phone.

Buy the phone out right for around £200 or less. Then take out o2 sim only contract for £20 a month for 800 mins, 1600 texts + bolt on (unlimited internet?) and take the contract out with £100 quidco, making it effectively £11.67 a month. £200 + £140 = £340 (or less if you can get the phone for cheaper then £200), so you get a much better deal, more miinutes, internet, is cheaper and you feel more smarter.
#28
Terrible as a camera, photos look fine until you open them on a computer and view them at a proper size, very very grainy. C905 is a lot better for camera.
#29
well i helped a few guys im happy at that, and adnan some dont have the money to just lay out 200 at once, thus many take a contract route because its like an interest free loan

Well I certainly couldn't have afforded £200 for a new phone - and on this deal it got me the new phone and saved me £5 per month on my current contract... so thank you :thumbsup:

Or try this - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/608895/nokia-e72-19-99-and-15pm-for-300-mi - Although I vowed I would never nuy a Nokia I've just bought one and its brilliant. The free OVI maps are great for sat nav/GPS as are google maps, the internet is fast and wi-fi even better. It has 300 mins and 300 texts (enough for me) and unlimited internet for just £15 per month (£20 cost of phone). Oh and the battery life is the best of any phone I have ever owned!

Great deal - thanks for posting.

I just got this for the Mrs via the online o2 upgrade as even o2's telephone retentions couldn't match this special online bonus deal :-D

Missed out on the Quidco probably doing an upgrade but not bothered as £35 for the hassle of getting a pac code and porting it onto another network etc then back again aint worth it.

Cheers again!

Got this today but there is no Google Maps and nothing useful buil in for Sat Nav purposese - any recommendations?
#38
i heard flashing the phone as o2 brand it and remove google maps, so if you flashthe firmwire onthe phone with original you may get the google maps working, you'll haveto try researching a bit more though before you do it, hope this puts you in the right direction mate

I did post a warning that o2's branding ruins this handset and removes GPS functionality... :whistling:

Which might brick your phone and invalidates the warranty... :whistling:
