O2 offer unlocking for their iPhone customers, unlock for iPhone 4 appears to be working now as well!

link for unlock request form:
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

Even though the unlockmyiphone page on o2's website says they are not unlocking the iphone 4 yet, I just filled out the unlock request form a couple days ago anyway.

I just putting down "iPhone" for phone model, this morning I got a text from O2 saying that my iphone is unlocked. Tested by sticking an orange sim card into the phone and connecting to itunes, and successfully got the message in itunes that my iphone is now unlocked!

I had tried this a few times since the iphone 4 launch and each time got a text from O2 saying they cannot unlock my iphone. Even though I had confirmed with an online chat to O2 that they would be unlocking the iPhone in the near future.

The unlock my iphone webpage still says: "we won't unlock iPhone 4 until after the launch period. Please check back here for the latest information on unlocking iPhone 4"

This is the legitimate way for O2 customers to get their iphones unlocked.

Now to enjoy OS 4.2 on my unlocked iPhone 4!!

UPDATE:
it appears from the comments that O2 are officially going to start unlocking iPhone 4 on monday! thanks to phoenix123 and henryftw

Also those on payg who have friends on contract with O2 (doesn't even have to be iphone contract as there is no difference now) just ask them to fill it in and you should be able to get it unlocked for free too.

This doesn't seem to help contract customers, as it says they will only unlock for you if you bought it without a contract or subsidy. and even payg iphone 4 on vodafone will have been subsidised by vodafone which means they have no obligation to unlock for you.

Please review my original post, stating free for pay as you go.

And clearly listed as so on their web site, and has worked for me and friends who are on voda with a pay as you go iphone 4.

All dependent on what baseband the phone has, ultrasn0w isn't compatible with 2.10.04 yet so I'm most likely gonna pay the £15 and at least I can start using it.

"Thanks for emailing us for unlocking your iPhone 4.

We'll be unlocking iPhone 4s from Monday onwards. Please reply to this
email on 06 December and I'll help you unlock your iPhone 4.

There's a small charge of £15 for this service and the fee will be taken
from the credit balance on your account.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Regards"

I'm on o2 monthly contract

yes you can get your iphone 3gs unlocked this way.

btw you can unlock more than one iphone, just as long as its locked to O2 and you don't even have to be on an iphone contract.

before iphone 4 was released I was on o2 sim only monthly contract with my old 3g which was locked to o2. got it unlocked for free, then also unlocked my friends payg iphone 3g as well.

Finally - heat

Are there any good deals on iPhone 4 with or without contract right now, does anyone know?

phoenix123 do you have a friend on O2 contract? Just ask them to fill in the form and put in your iphone IMEI, you can get it unlocked for free that way.
