This is my first post, please bear with me if not up to scratch...

For anyone who has reason to phone abroad regularly, in particular to foreign mobile numbers, I think the O2 "Your Country" pay-as-you-go tariff is a good deal, well worth considering: for a minimum top-up each month you get free minutes (from the UK) to ANY number abroad, irrespective if in Azeibaijan or Zambia*, landline or MOBILE.

Top-up each month:
£10-£14
= 50 additional minutes to call international landlines and international mobiles
£15-£29
= 100 additional minutes to call international landlines and international mobiles
£30+
= 200 additional minutes to call international landlines and international mobiles

So, for a tenner you get 50 minutes of calls to foreign numbers, plus a tenner's worth of calls within the UK! I signed up, but only came across it by accident while browsing the web... Anyway, hope this helps someone.

* for some reason actually excludes calls to Solomon Islands, Sao Tome and Principe, Sudan, Norfolk Island, Cuba, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Somalia and Syria.

I have a friend who has one of these sims, just to point out the calls you get are a free bonus for topping up just like you get with the other O2 pay n go tarrifs.
Whatever cash you top up you still have that in your phone, and you dont need to top up every month if you end up with a lot of cash credit you can skip a month and use that, and when you top up again the free bonus stuff gets added again.
Good if you call abroad on a regular basis and you can call O2 if your with them and change your current Pay n Go Tarrif to this one instead of getting a new sim.

I have been looking for a good tariff mix of UK and Intenational calls. I found O2 is the worst site to tell you how much they charge. Bits and pieces all over the place with no proper table. I would never trust O2 for this reason, you might end up with a huge bill. Orange is much better (and cheaper with international calls, in my case) and does not have a stupid top-up requirement. Not a good deal on O2 I'm afraid. Just be careful before you sign up.

Well, it is pay-as-you-go after all, so the most you have to lose is whatever your outstanding credit is. I've already tried it and, so far so good: after the initial £10 top-up I got an SMS confirming the "Your Country" tariff, then my balance of 50 free, additional minutes. I put it to the test immediately: when you call a number abroad, any number, an automated voice tells you "free call" before connection, you're then connected, directly. Now, having already used up my 50 minute allowance (phoning mostly mobiles in Germany, Italy and Russia) I'm still left with £10 call credit for calls within the UK.

I had a quick look at, for example, Lebara rates: 15p/minute to a German mobile, giving you a cost of £7.50 for 50 minutes; this leaves you with £2.50 to spend on UK calls/texts. With the O2 option, after 50 minutes of calls to German (or Russian, Australian, Japanese, whatever) mobiles you've still got the full £10 to call within the UK.

If you call mostly landlines then there are other options, but for calling foreign mobiles I haven't seen anything as good. Just my 2 cents' worth!

The nearest Orange do to this offer is the "Camel" package on pay as you go, you dont get any free mins so if you top up a tenner you start paying cash for your calls (From 5p to 65p per min to landlines depending on the country you call) which is not much cheaper than standard international calls on O2 pay n go even without this bolt on giving an extra 50mins of calls on top of your ten pounds credit (from 5p to 60p per min to landlines depending on the country) after your free ones run out you still have your tenner to use. The other bonus is the free mins also include international mobile numbers as well!
So in this case on pay as you go, Orange are a lot more expensive.
