Is Vive significantly worse than the Vive? Total VR noob here as im wondering why Vive is double the price

No the Vive is the same spec as the Vive. Infact you won't be able to tell the difference between the Vive and the Vive at all. Even have the same name.

Is ocul wireless? Btw does 1080ti is enough and is VR gpu only demanding ?

No, you need at least SLI 1080Ti for low settings, but you'll get an immersive 2D effect on a single 1080Ti.

Any ideas if this can be used for anything other than playing games?

The deal below was the best deal so far for the Rift:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/oculus-rift-touch-with-100-oculus-store-credit-578-99-amazon-2715058

But £200 off is much better than getting £100 credit for Oculus store. As long as you have the PC specs for VR then there's no cheaper alternative.

This is also taking into consideration that on release, the touch controllers alone were £200

With this bundle you'll get a few free games included - Lucky's Tale, Robo Recall and some others. Robo Recall is honestly brilliant and will keep you going until you decide what games you're after.

I posted that one as well. Was sad to see it go so cold but it looks like this one is more agreeable :) The Rift is a great deal at this price I reckon. Nearest competitor is the HTC Vive which is great but looking way overpriced now.

Yeah it was a shame it went cold because it was just in time for the Oculus and Steam sales which offered some really good discounts on pretty much every popular VR title

This is awesome, I paid much more than this for the headset alone but definitely worth it even at that price. The touch controllers add a whole new dimension to gaming, get this if you have ever been on the fence about VR gaming, but make sure your pc can handle it!

Damn. I was waiting for a good PS4 deal during Prime Day, but this has thrown me. I'm not rich enough for both.

This severe price drop makes me think the Rift isn't selling well and I'd be buying into a ****. If I had £900 i'd get a Vive.

Finally it's at the price they originally promised, with the controllers too!
Still questionable whether there's the content to stop it collecting dust after a week

ive got one.. amazing piece of kit... ur pc`s video card needs to be high spec to use though..

Great price, Would have bought this at release if it was at this price or maybe if its VIVE. but 1 years later. may as well wait for oculus 2. VR current is too primitive

Seriously considering it at this price but really not sure my system is up to it these days; i7-2600k, 16GB ram and a 4GB R9 290X. Reckon it's going to struggle?

Stupid question but as a complete noob, I take it you need a PC or something to use this?
Is there any standalone VR product that doesn't require a PC?
What about powering it from a mac or other video gaming system?
Thanks in advance.

Will it work on the new iMac I just received (2017 top spec with 40GB RAM)? I know they demoed it working with VR at recent expo. Might be the software not ready yet?

Yeah you need a powerful PC. The headset in effect just becomes an external monitor, so the content you are playing is shown on the Monitor too.

Yes a few games are bundled free and should be activated automatically when you create an Oculus account

Game compatibility is fine on most games which are supposedly Vive only.

I've had the vive and sold it, definitely a good experience. I've bought an Oculus and I am expecting a significant downgrade, at least in terms of tracking and room scale capability.

When the Vive was released it was the only VR unit capable of tracking your movement 360 degrees. It also had hand controllers out of the box, which Oculus didn't have until the end of the year.

Oculus now supports 360 degree movement because you get a second sensor with the touch controllers and you can buy a third sensor (£50 in CEX) to get the dead spots.
I would argue that the touch controllers are more natural feeling for hand movement, but either solution is good.

The advantage of the Vive is you require less USB ports, less wires trailing the room for the sensors / lighthouses and the upcoming knuckle controllers. Whether that is worth the extra is individual choice.
