This is probably the new price... wouldn't be surprised if Amazon drops their price too over the next 24 hours!

That's good to know on new price, but from past comments on here doubt they will refund the difference

any idea on whether the HTC vive will come down as that was supposed the better overall option but at almost £100 more

Is the AMD 480 powerful enough? I'm just hoping AMD release something more powerful at some point, I've had several bad Nvidia experiences one the years, I'm giving them no more chances.

The Rift is better screen wise, the Touch controllers are also more versatile and they have quite a few store exclusives. The only real problem with it s you need to buy a third camera for proper 360 tracking.

That said however PSVR is better than both these, it just has two major flaws and that's the motion controllers suck and it's on the PS4 so the games look like crap. The headset however is the most comfortable and you don't have as much screen door effect because the screen is more pixel dense.

Might be quicker if you refused delivery.

well amazon chat not as good as they were, not had to deal with Customer Services for a while but even though they acknowledge prices will be reduced shortly in line with RRP, the item only just marked as On the Way this evening, even if prices drops to new price in next few hours they refuse to refund the difference.

But said they will arrange to have item collected and issue refund upon receipt of returns. Not sure what business practices they use but the extra cost to deliver, then additional cost to collect and return it seems ridiculous all that extra handling instead of a simple refund of the difference

You're lucky they're doing that - prices fluctuate and someone has to be the last one to buy it a higher price oO

I feel personally sorry for anyone who's bought the touch controllers AT ALL. They've only been out 3 months and already have a half price reduction

Go into order details, there should still be a 'request refund' button? Amazon has always honoured that whenever I clicked it and refused delivery at the door

Just read on GS they're knocking $200 off so this will be the new price. At this price point they won't be making any money on the hardware and it seems more of a last ditch attempt to drive up the numbers.

However given recent news this might not be the best investment you could make. If Zenimax pursue them further they could be pulled completely. All if and buts i know, but if its enough to rattle the 3rd party devs into jumping ships then effectively it will be dead in the water.

As much as i'd love to see a proper implementation of VR this was never going to be it. Hopefully its legacy will be the spark it created that will eventually get us there.

amazon give you label for collect + once you return as soon as scanned you normaly get refund credited back on terms item not opened etc.

will get there in end, just told other half I bought it anyhow, not impressed I didn't use the google before I pressed checkout.

And we just won £575 on this month Premium Bonds so not all bad, pretty much a free VR headset eventually.

Just so our little boy can play job simulator like his "new bestmate DanTDM"

Not been the case for me. I still have to wait a day or two after they receive the item before a refund.

Facebook won't let this die, they will throw money at zenimax until they go away.

I guess this really depends on what you want and expect from the Rift. Personally I got one to play Elite Dangerous with, which the experience it gives you is like nothing ever felt before in gaming history. Considering now it's fully supported by SteamVR and has motion trackers like the Vive does, I imagine game support will go UP since it's not actually that difficult to make something that works with the Vive, work with the Rift. And dropping the price considerably below the Vive could spark more interest in the device, meaning a bigger user base for developers. As someone said earlier, it's Facebook. It won't just go away, and no court in the World will ask Facebook to just dismantle Oculus because one guy wants them too. Money will sort it, and then it'll blow over

Just in case you never got an answer for this, yes a 480 is the recommended spec for the Rift.

I've been enjoying the Rift with touch, but I don't play it often.

I think this new price is worth it, but only if you have a Gtx 980 or stronger. I'm looking at getting a 1080/ti to get a very clean image as the 980 still isn't as crisp as I'd like.

The experience is great when you first get up and running but the novelty gets old quite fast. The rift performs great, and it's a worth while experience. It just needs better things to do.

I mainly stick to Medium, kingspray, pinball fx2, and check out the experiences.

The climb, dead and buried, space pirate trainer, blaze rush, and Chronos are great/good fun.

Vtime, and alt space are good for social meet ups - (hot tub party is weird)

bullet train is a great experience, allumette is an ok told story, farlands is ok, rapid fire is ok, toy box is good for touch testing.

project cars, and Eve valkyrie are too extreme for my liking. Luckys tale camera movement isn't great.

I found the best experiences to be those where moment is when you walk in your VR space, instead of using a direction button to move.

Other than that I use Bigscreen and Virtual desktop to browse, and watch 360 videos.

This is the standard of game I had hoped for.

LG are working on one now. The rift has a newer version coming out but legal proceedings are prohibiting a release date. There is a lot happening. I nearly bought a HTC Vive yesterday as a treat but I think its an unwise thing to do for a few more months.
I'm normally an early adopter but these are just too dear atm for the limited games out there. I can see it being a novelty just look at the second hand market

I sold my kit last week. Amazing tech but I just struggled to get drawn into any of the games. Elite Dangerous was an awesome experience for a while but the game is a grindfest, so I lost interest rapidly. Dirt Rally again was amazing, 100% the most butt-clenching experience... but way too intense to play for more than 20 minutes at a time, I had to stop playing because of the motion sickness.

I was mostly paying over the top for games, playing them for half hour then never going back. The Climb has to to be the most over-rated title on the rift. Wall watching simulator I call it...

But to be honest I0 thought I wasn't playing it or putting in long shifts because I was so busy, but then I had two weeks off work and realised with a few days left that I hadn't touched the rift once, which was when I decided to sell it on.

I think to make the most of it, you need friends that also have it or make use of the social aspect. Big Screen is probably amazing if you've got a couple of friends to share tv/movie//game experiences with etc.

Oh and I'm gutted I never got to try Robo Recall.. but then If I'd waited til now to see I'd have gotten even less resale value!

So in short, this is a much more sensible price (I've always had the belief that The Rift + Controllers should equal the price of a high-end GPU), but if I had the choice now whether I bought it or just spent 30 minutes playing it in a shop.... I think I'd probably choose the latter.

Actually when the price drop was announced, Facebook put out a press statement stating the Rift won't be replaced "within the next 1 to 2 years" which suggests they are sticking with support for their CV1 for at least that amount of time. At the end of the day, VR only really took off in 2016, and game developers usually take at least a year to make blockbuster games. If by the end of 2017 the games are still weak then I will see your point, but I reckon after E3 this year there will be a bunch of new games out for the Rift, either via Steam or Oculus Home.

This is not Amazon policy and if they do refund the difference its only as "one off good will gesture". Most of the time they refuse because prices change daily.

Zenimax are most likely just trying to drive up the price at which Facebook will acquire them.

ive had friends who have called Amazon customer service and wangled a refund of the difference for stuff like this. since you are well within your rights to return it for a full refund, they often would rather refund a small amount to save losing the entire sale.

The joke is £1:$1 factor that we deal with all the time in electronics really **** me off how much we get fleeced! The new RRP is $599 and also £599 -.- same with Ryzen $489 and £489 it's honestly cheaper to buy in USD and ship to yourself.

Made me laugh.

It's very likely a permanent price drop anyway. So it will cost you a bit of messing about having to return to reorder but you will save.

lol, last time I did that under the advice of Amazon one of their scummy drivers went ballistic, started effing and jeffing and getting aggressive, in front of kids too. Had to slam the door on him before I crammed him into his own box and left him in the back of his van, Amazon didn't want to know, just kept ignoring my complaint.

I've found if you get through to call centers that are not based in a western country, you will not get any kind of 'good will gestures', or any decent customer service for that matter, they tend to be less generous and harder to deal with re complaints, I ask where they are form at the start of the chat, and if they say India disconnect, it's a waste of time.

Amazon really are crap these days.
