is this silent?

ok i have to say this is a very good price if it is indeed modular. You could make quite a tidy mid ranged system with this. I prefer Corsair for PSUs but from what i hear OCZ are not too bad at all. 700Watt should also run one high end Graphics card and a quad core processor with no issues. But if you go for 2xGfx cards then think higher.

700W will be fine for a quad and 2 graphics card in most cases.
i wouldn't recommend powering anything more than 2x GTX460's with this, tho u may get away with more!

pretty hot like. Might get it while it's cheap, doing an upgrade in April and wanted a best PSU I could get for £50...this may well be it. Unless anyone can suggest any alternatives? Doesn't have to be as powerful as this, 500-600W would do me.

Cheers

It is modular! and, for £52 its a cracking psu!

#8
Cracking PSU, have one in my main rig, paid over £70 for mine so a bargain.
#9
Nice deal, but states: "Awaiting Stock"

can't see u getting better than this for £52 mate.
stretch to £60 and u'll get better, but tbh i'd save the £8 and get this

Good deal for a 700W modular psu. Voted hot. Would get the Antec 650W Modular psu ahead of this however.

Why? If you don't mind me asking.

the antec truepower new has 4 pci-e connectors and this only has 2.
#16
i also would get the antec if i had £8 extra to spend.
if the budget was tight though, that extra £8 could be the difference between a 500GB hard drive and a 1TB hard drive, in which case i would get this :)!
#17
Nice price.

As an owner of this product, I can tell you that you're wrong!

Thanks zurich. Don't need the extra one.

So might as well save the 8 quid.
#21
Cracking price althugh I too would get the Antec. Both very good deals.
#22
How noisy is this?
#23
the antec has now gone up to £65.99 in price, so that makes this deal even more worthwhile :)!
#24
what are play.com like with delivery of large(ish) items like this? do they use Royal Mail or a courier?
CDs i order from them take about 10 days to arrive.

Just for a little info, OCZ are pretty spot on for honouring the warranty too. I had one pop on me and after sending it to the Netherlands (which wasn't cheap!) I received the next model up as they were out of stock of the one I had. Replacement was their 750w fatal1ty model which is modular too, nice tidy system :)

cheap power supplies are about the worst part you can scrimp on in a pc. this one is alright, but id rather get a similarly powered one for £100

I've had the 600w one for a year now and it's been great and as far as I can tell, hardly makes any noise at all.

Thanks!... purchased, it was either something fairly cheap or a decent one for a good price, cant go wrong for £51 for modular, 700w, 3year warranty...or could you?

I know I'm going to come across like a doofus to you guys but please amuse me.

Are PC's way ahead now in terms of what they can do game-wise compared to a console like the 360 or the PS3? Is there a website where I can find out more about what these high end computers are capable of and why it's worth it for some people to pay the extra money for them? Sprry for the noob question, I'm just really curious as I have been out of the loop for a while!

not a console man meself but from what i remember the graphics chip in a PS3 is equivalent to a geforce 6800, since then the pc world has had geforce 7,8,9 x2 and now 4 series so should make a good diff being 5 generations on.
suspended#35
At the moment PCs are way ahead of consoles, but not by as much as they should be, there are too many PC games which are just rubbish console ports (CoD,GTA4) and aren't designed from the start for PC. Also PC games aren't as well optimised as 360/pS3 games are, so the increase isn't as big as it should be. Still way ahead though.

I ordered this psu over the christmas hols and am still waiting for a dispatch.

#39
This is now showing as "Usually dispatched within 4-5 days" !!
