** Preowned ** MS 120Gb hard drive for the Xbox 360. At the time of posting there were 43 available for online ordering at the time of posting. If you're lucky enough to have a CeX local to you then you can try and see if they've got some in stock so you can get it sooner.

CeX still gives "12 months warranty on all items" for those that are worried about it being preowned.

This will not come with a transfer cable so if you're upgrading from an old 20Gb or 60Gb (and want to keep your save games etc) then you can phone MS and ask them for a free cable. Apparently it will arrive in around about a weeks time from Germany.

Yes, if you don't care about that 1 saved game then shove this in and rock away :)

I bought one of these last time they were at this price, then they went and profiteered by raising the prices to £85 when the New XBLE came out in November ....good to see them back down again.

Regarding the whole data migration cable, I just ordered one from MS so I could transfer from my old 20GB (which was later traded in for £30 against another 120GB drive for my other 360 Arcade from Gamestation when they had their offer on of £69)

Please note that the drives from CEX could be Elite ones, mine was a black Elite one, not that it really looks out of place on my 360 with a different faceplate anyway, but some people might not want that, also they didnt remove any of the existing users profile, so had to be formatted...mine containing offensive D'n'B music and the most awful of chav pictures of the previous owner and Elizabeth Duked out GF.

I think Im gonna splash the extra £30 for one from Argos, i get the cable and there is no chance of it being an Elite one. How from me though :)

If you are gonna use your old enclosure, then you may as well just do the Western Digital 120GB 2,5" drive mod instead.

My 360 with the black drive on as I say has a different faceplace and is side mounted so really looks fine with the black 120GB drive on top as the sides of it have the chrome trim anyway  so thats all you really see.

Any Links? Even a cheap 20,40,60,80 is fine for me

Maybe worth looking into how much trade in you can get on your old drive though first, I considered doing that, then weighed in the fact that GS were offering £30 trade in for my lowly 20GB drive meaning it was only £39.99 extra for an official 120GB drive, sell the data cable on Ebay, and paid some of the £39.99 with games bought from Comet cheap and doubled the cost in trade in value, some things just are not worth the hassle.....

Doing the mod you would be left with what, a 20GB SATA 2.5" disk no good to any modern laptop, with no resale value. Even CEX give £23 trade in, meaning £32 for the 120GB!

Drives heads are going, its barely booting.

I've only know the mod to be done with a specific WD120gb drive, you can't have a 80gb version because there is no official firmware that goes with it.

You cant have a 40, 80 or anything other than what is available currently....the firmware hack for the Western Digital drive uses a binary image of an existing 360 drive (20, 60, 120), so even if you were to use a Western Digital drive that was 300GB, the binary image used would make the drive only 120GB if that makes sense.

The author of the firmware hack could have spent more time making other brands of hard disk compatible with the hack, but didnt want to spend time doing so.

Just google "xbox 360 bevs hack" for lots of info on it. If you go ahead with it, you will need a 120GB bin file, these can be found easily on the torrent networks.

So its just a case of getting the correct drive and flashing the firmware to that.

Yep with the correct software and correct binary file which can be found from torrent networks or can be extracted from an official 360 120GB drive.

Its just a matter of getting the correct Western Digital drive, I dont have any tutorials bookmarked but that google search I stated will put you along the right path :) or zxz might have a link on here maybe.

Good luck, with a faulty drive like you have, definitely is the best option for you  And dont forget to torrent find hddss.bin 120gb file.
#25
I can't posts links yet ;) but the drive you need is available on scan, useful if you have the free delivery deal.
#26
I might trade something in for one of these, I don't want to do the mod mentioned above as it's far too easy for Microsoft to identify those drives.

How do you mean identify?

I think what he means is the fact the binary file is extracted from a specific hard disk, obviously if you download one of the binary firmwares from the net its possible that Microsoft could do a detection routine on this, I am sure if they wanted to they could do something about it, but nothing has been done yet/if at all. To be honest I think MS are more concerned with dvd drive flashing.
#29
I think it's not beneficial for MS to ban this mod, more hard drive space means i'll spend more on marketplace and add ons. They don't make that much on hardware anyway.

As above DVD flashing is a no no, I bricked my last 360 trying to do it and with the price of games no it's not worth it
#30
It's not beneficial for MS to ban modded HDDs as the user has more space to purchase their over-priced DLC.

However having said this I have just pulled out from getting a friend to do this mod for me and have decided to purchase this one from CEX as the risk of getting banned is just too high for me, M$ are a weird company, RROD still excists after 3 years? Yeah, I'ma get this one, thanks for the heads up, just, why is it so cold?!
#31
You can't get banned from a modded hdd can you? I thought it they banned you when you have a flashed dvd drive?

Potentially if MS decide to do it in the future, they don't now, but they might in the future.

Modding your HDD recquires the piracy of a small file hddss.bin, MS could detect duplicate copies of this over live and ban the consoles, potentially.
#33
I got £20 credit for CEX so think I'm gonna trade it in and get a 60, will pay for itself. Would be nice to install more games to HDD as my drive sounds like a car exhaust being scrpaed along the ground (2 weeks old)

This has now dropped to £52 delivered. You can easily check to see if your nearest branch has stock if you don't want to wait around for it to arrive in the post :)
