Went in to the local Game today, saw the remote for £9.98. Only one of them was marked with a sale tag, but scanned at £9.98 not £19.99. Asked the store clerk and he said that all of them are to be sold at the new price for the time being.

Good offer, not seen the other deal but voted this hot.

is it true you get these with the HD DVD drives?

And the HD DVD drives can be picked up for similar money. Still voted hot as I don't particularly want an HD DVD drive!
#7
You get a longer one with number pad on it as well with the HD DVD player but I prefer the little one because the number pad serves no purpose unless you use media to watch TV on your 360 , which NOONE does.
#8
This is the longer one, the number buttons can be used for your own tv-set.

I believe they don't work with WMC or VMC machines. Can't point to the evidence now but google it, there is some people on forums discussing it.

With a registry tweak and a media centre version of windows it can be made to work, but the range on these is awful compared to the proper MS HTPC remote.

(got both, almost wish i hadn't bothered with this one)

Yes this is true, you can also use the HD-DVD drive as an external CD/dvd drive for a laptop or netbook. However also if you have a HD-TV you can pick up HD-DVDs for £3 so why not enjoy the cheap HD while you can, especially if you are going to buy the remote anyway.

There's a reason why this is not a good solution for a MCE based HTPC.
I cannot remember why, but there is a reason, dig into the details. [It may be what bossworld said]

If you want an MCE remote get the microsoft branded MCE remote control, it's magnificent.

PC World have got the Swordfish Gaming Xbox 360 remote for £2.96
I noticed the white versions are £20 but the black one was £2.96
No idea why the black one is cheaper, but i checked the tag, checked the model number, took one, paid for it and job done.

It was the PC World at the Merry Hill centre in Dudley for the record.

i got one of these the other day in gamestation for £2.99 pre-owned......was a bit mouldy, needed a good clean.

I used this to watch TV in my bedroom (proper remotes bust), I have been looking for one since I gave the 2 I had away with my HD-DVD drives.

Don't think £10 is a real bargain though, concidering I got a HD-DVD drive and remote for about £6 from amazon.de a while ago.

Yup have got an MCE05 setup with dual tuners for that very purpose.

I was going to get one of these second hand from cex for £6 but after reading about the problems with range etc. i thought i'd be better off brand new. What a mistake that was, £15 at amazon, and it only works head on from the console, the MS PC one doesn't really need to be aimed at the machine, it's as good as the sky remotes for working anywhere in the room

how do i go about setting this up pls? I've got a laptop with MCE 2005 and a USB tv tuner.

There's loads of guides on the internet, but so long as your PC is on the same network as the 360, the PC should detect the 360 as a media centre extender, and most of it's doable through that wizard.

Might need to download the setup software (which is actually non functional with the MCE05 roll-up 2 update that it needs, so you need to do some tweaking.) Can't go into much more detail here so google it
