Didn't run it through till so maybe you're right. There was a twenty-strong queue at 9am which I just couldn't face.

Incidently, there were also messenger keypads and wireless controllers on sale.

Nice to see the vultures are circling around Zavvi.

They've stripped Woolies of everything and now they are like baying wolves at the door of Zavvi
#7
at the end of the day the people are only going in for a bargain. they are effectively making sure the staff get paid. if nobody went in then they would be out of a job straight away without pay as has been the case with a few firms.

Was just going to post this thread...only I managed to get it for 6.99 today! It looks like some of them had the 9.99 sticker on and some had 6.99. Some other items also had different price stickers on them so make sure you get the cheapest ones.

Don't give us that malarky, getting sick of those feeing sorry for Woolies and Zavvi now to be honest.

I saw some of the prices in Zavvi today when I went to pick up my Xbox 360 Elite. There were new Xbox 360 games for £50 exactly. With prices like this the company deserves to be going under. This is tantamount to greed, and downright retarded for not pricing cometitively in an agressive market.

Same goes for Woolies, prices on CD's, Games & Electricals have always been s**t compared to other shops, and considering it's a large quantity of the products Woolies have stocked, it's their own fault for not adjusting prices to reflect the market.

If a company is going to charge considerably more for the same item that can be purchased around the corner for considerably less, who in their right mind is going to waste more money?

Similar story with Jaguar. No surprises they are in the s**t now either, the market changed, people want more econimical cars with rising fuel prices, yet they still continued to churn out gas guzzlers. Again, not adjusting to reflect the market.

Please stop feeling sorry for these greedy companies. Feel sorry for the staff who are about to lose their jobs, but don't feel sorry for the companies because it's hardly going to affect the people at the top of these businesses anyway.

I think when people say they feel sorry for woolies/zavvi they mean the staff...
How could they feel sorry for a brand?

Are you mental? I feel for Zavvi and Wollies I really do. Especially the staff.

But Woolworths has been flawed for years, idiotic management and Marketing. Zavvi got a bit unlucky, but should have recognised the position their suppliers were in.

AND besides, they are selling it atthese prices for a reason. As people have to be paid, what do you want customers to do. Offer to pay more?!?

Finally, in my opinion these people that wait in line that early are just bored and silly. Work more, do your housework, spend time with your family. Or get up early to save £3 on a DVD you don't really want.

Thats a little judgemental!! If you read some of the posts on the woollies thread you will see that people are saving HUNDREDS not a few quid (no doubt ebay's profits will be going through the roof!!).

I personally don't feel anything about the situation, my dad (a very hard working and loyal employee), was made redundant with THOUSANDS of other miners and I dont remember this amount of fuss then, we were just left to muddle through!!! The employees will find other jobs and woollies' stupid and old fashioned business ethos wont be missed on the high street either, just a shame that they have pulled others with them (Zavvi) but it was probably only a matter of time anyway :whistling:

None of this stuff is actually a bargain, just around internet prices. It's kind of funny all these people queuing up for 'bargains'

I'm pretty sure u've just made that up about seeing a game at £50. Besides it's not the pricing that has sent Zavvi into trouble, its the poor management which was so negligible in not having a back-up plan for stock supplies if EUK (woolworths owned) went bust.

Zavvi were always competitive with new release games normally having a deal of the week to reflect that. you also seem to think that Zavvi would ultimately make up the price on the spot, but you have to consider that they probably wouldn't be buying in stock in as large a quantities as a supermarket so the price of buying would reflect that, with the add on that they actually need to make a profit from what they sell.

While supermarkets are well known to take a loss on Entertainment products knowing full well they can make it up in other areas of the store.

and please do feel sorry for the staff, Management **** em they'll soon find a job, think of the thousends of sales assistants that will be out of work in 2 weeks time. The unskilled sector is already flooded, it'll get worse in time.

I may have taken advatage of the fact they type the price in and slapped a 4.99 sticker on my play and charge kit and a 6.99 sticker on the live membership card :S .

True. I was in Blackpool at the weekend and just happen to pass by a Woolworths and a Zavvi, thought I would pop in to see all these bargins. Most could be got cheaper online, waste of time if you made a special effort to go.

Good deal, When I was in there boxing day they were also selling just the batteries for £6.99. I refused to buy one out of principle though after they had refused to accept my gift card!!! How can they do that, thats theft!!!!

NHL 09 on PS3 is £50 in Zavvi.................and as a Virgin Mobile employee they've cut my staff discount!

well said woolies have been taking a lend for as long as i can remember and it's no wonder the've gone under .its just a shame the staff have all had to pay the price for woolie's failure to compete in a very competitive market

No. Rock Band 2 was being sold at £50. Unless Zavvi are already dead (not been keeping up with the news over xmas), please phone the Birdgend store for confirmation if you wish. Don't apprecaite being called a liar to be honest :x

There were a hanful of games at that price, the rest were at £39.99 which again is overpriced and non-competitive. You can't effectively run a business selling nearly all the most popular stock at exactly the RRP, which is what Zavvi were doing.

and ordering something thats been misspriced on the internet is tantamount to theft too.

If you look through the bins enough you will find them with the wrong tags on em. If you ask one fo the staff nicely they will slap a 4.99 sticker on anything.

;)

I call it taking advantage of stupidity or disgruntled staff.

Are you actually comparing switching pricetags on things yourself to internet missprices?

Oh dear...
