Nice. Been looking for one of these for a while and they're over £25 everywhere I can find them in stock!
#2
I saw them yesterday in BLOCKBUSTERS for £17.99..

They dont show it as stock online but they have them in...

I got one bundled in with mine.. :-)

Does anyone know why these are not in stock anywhere and have not been for quite a few months now?

Are Sony doing some redesigning to intergrate the PlayTV button text's instead of that silly sticky plate you get with PlayTV?

Or maybe they're doing something with the buttons as the text printed on mine is starting to rub off already!! I'm a light user of this remote too... Hmm....

My mate was lucky & picked one of these up for £12 in the littlewoods clearance shop a few weeks ago.

Would not hold out for big stocks there though.
#5
they are great, but the fact that its a bluetooth remote control can sometimes be a pain, when I put back in the draw after switching it off you can accidently hit the PS button and switch the damn thing on, or if its down the sofa or behind the cushion then thats even worse!!

All in all though a great device and essential for your media and blu-rays.

If you watch blu rays on your PS3 then this is pretty much an essential add-on. I've had mine for over six months now and it certainly makes life so much easier. I got mine for £14.99 and did'nt realise that they had recently increased in price. For most of the months leading up to Christmas they were available, seemingly, everywere for around this price. So I am really suprised to read of retailers charging around £35.00 for them . To be honest, though, if they were only available for this exhorbitant price I would still pay it. But only after I had checked out the prices of second hand one's in places like CEX and Gamestation.

If you want to use your all in one multi remote I suggest buying one of the cheap Chinese PS3 IR remotes from E bay, they have limited functionality but if you're happy with the basics (OK, Pause, Advance, Menu) then it works a treat. I bought one, programmed my remote and threw the Chinese one away, although obviously kept the reciever that came with it to plug into the PS3

you need one of these, throw away the remote control bit and just use the dongle

Bah, I bought one of these just a couple of days ago for £17.99. Even that felt like a pretty good deal though... given gamestation wanted £40 for it in store!

Looks like a great price.

I connect my archos to my PS3 and play media off that, also I stream medie off of my laptop - I very rarely use it for blu-rays. Does the remote control operate in the exact same way as the controller, meaning that I can use it to control my other media also?

Thanks

Have never really understood the need for the PS3 remote - I play Blu Rays quite often and use the controller without any probs - three buttons to be pressed maximum and away we go - prehaps someone could enlighten me?......

pick up the cheapo infrared ps3 remote, and you can get the PS3 settings for your harmony. Only thing you can't do it switch it on (but you can do that when you have to put the disc in :-D). You can switch it off though.

Or read this and spend more cash - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1016741 and get full switch on functionality ..

There isn't anything more to be enlightened on. Some people just desire it, me I won't be bothering just yet. If I was using it as part of a home entertainment on a big big tv then I would.

It's for lazy people who don't mind yet another remote around the house... :whistling:

Using a standard controller is hardly difficult.

Does a "big big tv" reduce your ability to use a controller? :?

No but it increases my distance from the TV, which increases my lazyness.

This is a waste of money and time considering you can just use your ps3 controller. I'm sure people who brought remotes for their PS2s found this.

I have got one of these and have to say it's just easier. Not only that but the Wife can actually watch a Blu-Ray without the need for me being there ;-)

so much better to have a proper remote as so many more features that the standard controller doesnt have. only worth it if you play a lot of dvds/bds though.

personally, i find the remote invaluable. for one, it doesn't look like i live in a student house, becasue i can actually put away my controllers, and have a good looking remote sitting with all the other myriad remotes.

second, it is set out far more sensibly than the controls on the PS3 controller, and you don't have to bring up the control menu every time you want to do something more complicated than pause/play/skip. Instant access to "Display" is something i use a lot.

third, if someone comes to your house and doesn't regularly use a ps3 or other games console to play movies, then they can actually make sense of the damn thing.

Fourth, it's always instantly available - i have my ps3 set up to turn off my controllers if they aren't being used for a while, which means if i want to quickly watch something, i have to turn the controlelr on first. the remote has no such issue (on a slightly irritating note, if you press the buttons on the remote, it turns the PS3 on - unlike the controllers, where only the PS button does that).

Fifth - it allows me to load Buzz without having to fetch the gamepad controllers. a small benefit, but one that i appreciate.

And finally, it provides a beastly handicap in either Pro Evo or Soul Calibur.

suffice it to say, not everyone will find this useful - but for those of us for whom their PS3 is a media centre first and a gaming system second, it is a very useful addition.

yeah got mine for the £14.99 from Play a few months ago, thought it was expensive! (well it is for a remote) but compared to all other retailers it was still the cheapest.

also anybody who bought from Play noticed that the packaging showing it was a North America (US/Can) import BD remote? (Eng/Fre/Spn languages on the packaging & manuals, also mentions SCEA & FCC etc) maybe that's why Play were able to sell them cheaper than anywhere at that time as they were imports, but now they've ran out of stock.

& I also find the remote very important for watching movies, just feels better to have a proper remote in my cinema setup, & feels better using it to control the PS3 when watching BD movies, more functions can be accessed easier.

but still don't know why the big shortage everywhere.

Good explanation, didn't know about fifth and final explanation.

But still can't warrant that on the remote at this price. I will bide my time.
Thanks though.

Managed to pick up one of these for a price a won't name as part of the goodbye to wollies sale. Resented even to have to pay what I did to get a remote but glad a have it as it makes the whole thing more normal for playing dvds etc. Quick question is anybody knows. I did of course throw away the instructions rather than read them. Can this be used to switch off the ps£. If it can what button is it?
#38
Excellent device! A real bargain for that price!
#39
Not sure why this is getting voted, play.com is just out of stock but it sells for £15.

Also, Scan sells them at this price but they're also out of stock for now.

Got mine for 1p at Game in Debenhams after the sales person didn't realise they had to be given away with PS3 bundles! He said he had to honour the price that was shown on the till!
