A bit steep, nearly cheaper to buy an Elite (£170 on ShopTo at the moment I think) and flog your old console for £100 - New console and 120 HDD, win win.

But I heated nonetheless :) Having unsuccessfully not sold my old Xbox after buying a stonking elite deal .
#2
Compared to other Official 120GB Xbox 360 harddrives that is a good price - so heat and rep added.

But for a 120GB HDD it is still a huge rip-off. I just paid a tenner less to get a 1TB HDD for my PC. I do want to get a larger HDD for my 360, but I'm not getting one of these until they drop to around the price of a new game

£70 for only 120GB?
is the casing made of gold?

Hmm. However much you don't like people using 'M$', you cannot disagree that the hard drive is an absolute rip-off. Clever.
#6
Still, its a cracker deal compared to how much it normally costs. I paid £89 (albeit had a voucher for £30 so it took it down to £59) for one of these not so long ago so this price is definitely a bargain (relatively).
#7
Had one of these in the Sunderland store, laughed at the price. Cant believe its a hot deal!

I agree.

HDDHackR + WD Blue 250GB/320GB is what you need to use to get back @ Microsoft - make yourself a 250GB HDD for around £55

I bought a 500GB HDD and put it in a £6 enclosure I got from DX.

Works great on my Xbox 360 which has been flashed with XBReboot so I can use the whole 500GB :D

I was thinking about this yesterday and while we are all quite justified to hate on Microsoft for the complete con that is the 360 hard drive, it's all too easy to forget that Sony used to charge us £29.99 for a bloody 8 **MB** memory card in the PS2 era... Now that truly was a rip off, even then.

Nintendo did the same I think.

it's a fair price but i bought the elite from sainsburys with pure/ lego /fifa 10/ nfs shift
sold fifa 10 and nfs shift for £55 on ebay and sold my old 20gb xbox 360 premium thats 2 years old with some of my old games i don't play and got £140 for it so was laughin :)

i was going to get the 250gb deal extreme drive but when i asked about it people warned me off and said they could get banned from being used

Is it worth saying that I got a 320GB and put it in my PS3 for £50?

For a new Xbox 360 120GB drive this is a good deal, heat added

For a 120GB drive this is a scam, can't be helped though down to MS
So all the posts about too expensive, get a 2nd hand one etc etc are pointless...:)
#23
On here a while back, they were doing 3rd party 250gb drives for approx £50 but there was an issue weather they would work with the currant update on x box live. They are on ebay for same price and was just wondering if anyone has a 3rd party hdd and weather it works with the currant update??
#24
Some of the points here about PS3 are irrelevant posts from Sony fanboys.

Most people that own 360s are aware of the fact that Microsoft have proprietary interfaces for just about everything with the console, some you can get third party peripherals for, some you can't.

In the case of the HD you are limited to what Microsoft officially release size wise (currently the largest being 250GB and not officially available to buy as an aftermarket product outside buying an Super Elite)

However, for those wanting to do the same as what PS3 scoffing owners do with their machines (albeit as stated limited to what MS release size wise) a 2.5" SATA HD can be bought just the same with just a £5 extra cost for a third party HD case from one of the well known knock off Oriental sites FocalPrice or DealExtreme.

A binary file for the 250GB HD can be downloaded (copyrights of this is a grey area, but up to you!) and a 250GB HD can be bought and installed for less than the cost of the official 120GB.

Obviously if MS in the future release larger official HDs then the binary files for those will be extracted and larger capacity drives can be bought and utilised in the same way.

To me its a trade off, there are practices about MS I do not like, such as attempting to maximise profits (there again they are a business...like it or not) however its a trade off to me, as a gamer the current software market for the 360 by far outweighs the PS3, but thats another argument.

Back to this deal, its the hottest price for a brand new 120GB HD I have seen since I bought an official one from Gamestation at the same price (trading in some games that I bought for half the price of their trade in values, making it pointless utilising a binary file and third party enclosure) some 1.5 years ago.

Have not seen any problems with 250GB ones going the unofficial route.

Hello Sony Fanboy. May I take this opportunity to tell you to GTFO until you grow up.

a) It's cheap for somebody who doesn't want to/isn't comfortable with taking their console apart. Want to do that with your PS£? (see what I did there? clever eh...) Tough, you can't. You have to buy an entire brand new console to upgrade your 40gb PS3. Now, in my opinion, £70 is cheaper than £200-£250. You don't have a leg to stand on calling it expensive - as there is no such comparison to anything else. Besides the £30 8mb memory card by Sony...

b) People who are comfortable with the workings of their consoles, can upgrade theirs to 250gb just about as cheap as PS£ owners can.

So, your point is?

I think his point is that Microsoft do not want you to upgrade your drive (and may ban you from Live) - whereas Sony encourage you to upgrade it with any 2.5" drive without voiding the warranty

the 360 is quality, no one is bashing the console just saying that microsoft are charging far too much for a harddrive!

a. your statement is at best a massive exaggeration at worst a complete lie lol, you dont have to take a ps3 apart, simply open a slot, undo screws, remove hardrive, add new one!

b. no they cant, it costs a lot more, you odviously know nothing about the ps3 so to make a satement about it is as ignorant as any fanboy rant!

c. PS£ would have looked better as P£3, see what i did the £ looks more like an s! lol

I think all talk of a ps3 on a 360 post and vice versa should be banned, what would fanboys do then? maybe actually play their consoles?

come on guys its christmas, 360 and ps3 are both must have consoles, ask santa for the one you dont have and you will see this! im a fanboy, a console fanboy i love em all:thumbsup:

Unless you are actually breaking terms of service, MS don't have a leg to stand on with banning you from Live. If there was a hacked binary image that also allowed game cheats to be installed, and a bypass to run unsigned code (impossible) like with the DVD firmware Ixtreme hacks, then MS can't ban you from live just by putting in a hard disk with a binary image to allow it to run the same as any official drive with the same binary image.

Obviously Sony make things far easier, but thats MS for you, as I stated earlier, MS are all about maximising profits, clever business...to the consumers annoyance. At the end of the day though, for its criticisms I know which is the better games console, and it isn't Sony.

The only legality broken here is whether or not the binary image has a copyright, which would be theft, but there again who is going to enforce such a thing against more important matters like software theft!

Also, unless you are cracking open your existing housing, which I believe has the hologram covering one of the screw holes, there is no warranty broken as far as the console is concerned, same as with paint modding a controller, doesn't harm at all your 360 warranty itself.

a) And that, is plenty more than enough to put off a single mum who bought a console for her 9 year old son. But simply unplugging one then plugging another in wont. And your statement, accusing my statement of being 'a massive lie' - lol, you are so full of ****. You just admitted it involves removing screws, therefore it involves taking things apart.

b) no it doesnt. 360 Hard Drive housing = reuse your existing one, or about £5 if you want a new one. Plus if you do that, you'll have TWO hard drives that you can swap within seconds as and when you needed, to take to mates houses, etc. 250gb sata drive = same price. Speaking of fanboy rants, that appears to be one you've just made.

c) I'm surprised you didn't come up with P$3 if you were that bothered.

d) Console manufactuerers ALWAYS charge a premium for their accessories. One might ask why Sony charge so much for their TV service, when its essentially just a USB freeview adapter that you can buy for less than £20? Or why their pads are so much more expensive despite having not had to have anything put into design for the last 14 years? Or how they justified £30 for 8mb memory cards when you could get 1GB USB cards for £5?

e) as I've said, they're completely different. The Xbox offers a removeable hard drive, that you can swap between consoles, use to take your profile/arcade games etc to a mates house without having to take the entire console, all with absolutely zero hassle and time requirement. Whereas the P$3 offers an easier way for competent people to upgrade their drives and a bigger choice.

LOL, undoing a screw could put somebody off changing a harddrive:?
, if that was the case they wouldnt be able to figure out how to do a data transfer either!

what an ignorant statement, how is being a women or being a single mum going to stop them from being able to read the instructions supplied with the ps3 and undo a screw, you must know some really incapable human beings! what an insult to women and mums, dont put them on your level! you odviously dont have a clue what your talking about!

wow so much fanboyism.

i just said the xbox HDD isnt worth its price......and its proven by the fact that its double the price of PC and PS3 HDD's and its offering no way near the space of other HDD's

120GB ppffffft what a joke, they should be included in all systems as standard.

thats why i call microsoft M$

got a problem with it? well too bad because im not changing the way i think about them unless they charge fair prices.

PS3 HDD? No such thing. 120gb? they should be included in all systems as standard? They already are with the 360. I'm sure the fact your PS2 memory cards being 6 times more expensive than something 120 times bigger than it didn't stop you from buying a PS2, right?

8mb memory was expensive.
maybe if you go back to late PS2 days youll find that people were using 64mb memory sticks.

getting a gig was hard unless it was on a hard drive and the ones which were released were hundreds of pounds.

plus sony dropped its prices of memory cards as time went by.........microsoft however are cutting third party devices making xbox users pay more.

and your saying theres no such thing as PS3 HDD? well your just silly.

your the one making the excuses, next time go by fact and you might stand a chance.

i cant believe you thought xbox's came with 120GB HDD's as standard.
ever herd of the arcade system? it had no HDD
ever herd of the pro system? first it had 20GB then 60GB
only elites and super elites have 120GB and 250GB respectively.

your arguing for xbox against someone who knows more about xbox then you do.
