Hi All...this is my first post but I've been using HotDeals for years. Anyway onto the deal. If found this at my local Gamestation in Milton Keynes while I was searching for a replacement HDMI Cable.

They're selling the HDMI Cable kit for just £9.98. Not sure if this is nationwide because its showing priced £19.98 on their website I know there are some cheaper unofficial ones floating around the net but this is the cheapest official one I can find.

Description:
Unleash the digital high-definition capabilities of Xbox 360 with the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable. Experience digital high definition of your video and audio all in one cable. Enjoy movies and games at up to 1080p resolution, and superior audio via the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound output.

Utilise the Optical/RCA Audio adapter for enhanced sound in non-HDMI supported stereo systems. Feel confident connecting your console to high-definition equipment with the quality you expect from an authentic Xbox product.

Hi, I don't understand. Does this allow an old 360 with no hdmi ports to use hdmi? or does it do something else?
#3
No, it's an HDMI cable to use with an HDMI 360, but if you need to use optical or analog audio outputs at the same time as an HDMI cable, you need the bundled adapter (as those connections are usually only found on the other 360 video cables, which can't fit into the normal video output port when a VGA cable is connected).

For people who need them it's a tidy alternative to a cable hack, but otherwise you're best off with any old HDMI cable.

Waste of money this. I was going to buy one and then found out that you can prise the cover off the original cable and lose one half of the shell. This then allows you to keep the original cable plugged in and used purely for the sound output and you can get a hdmi down the side, plugged in as well.

If you look this up on amazon, someone had posted a picture of this hack.

I don't agree its a waste of money at £9.98. Especially if you don't like taking cable componants apart, plus that's quite an untidy hack which is why I chose not to do it in the first place.
To each their own I suppose but its definately a good alternative IMHO.

This £9.99 at game, too :)

Hmmm...I already have an HDMI cable, it's just the breakout box with the optical connector on that I need! My Arcade 360 didn't come with the cable that has the optical connector on it, annoyingly.

Can cause problems on your TV/360 this. Not big problems but when you switch/activate the HDMI injput on your TV your 360 can restart. Means it can be tricky to switch inputs and leave the 360 going.

All to do with the 360 recognizing/getting confused with which output is in use (as it thinks the componentn output is in play as well).

Just a heads up as well. I bought a copy of this cable from 7dayshop to work with my X41 headphones (HDMI + optical), but if you switch the TVs AV inputs with the xbox running it restarts because the copy cable does not have a loop across two pins. The official lead does not have this problem and says you having to break cables open and soldering pins. Additionally you don't need to break the casing on other leads. I think you save more than £9.98s worth of hassle with this lead. Hot deal.

Well said, also the hack (which is not ideal) means you have a stupid bundle of wires round the back of the 360 whilst utilising HDMI for video.

The 3rd party dongles also have the restart problem too, so those thinking of cheaper options from DealExtreme would have to mod those.

For a tenner, this is a fuss free and clean way of getting Optical Output for those that need it for their AV Receivers.

Why Microsoft didn't include one as standard on both the Xbox and Xbox 360 is another story.

Just buy a £2 gold plated cable like I did from shops on play.com, if you don't need the optical audio part. A lot cheaper and works flawlessly. Just make sure to get the HDMI 1.3 standard cable.

I think people are surely already aware that this is redundant a purchase if you only require a HDMI Lead.

Not voting hot or cold to this, yes it is a good price for the official product but it was wayyy too overpriced to begin with. And unlike other unofficial accessories I can't see M$ being able to stop an unofficial version of this lead with a software update like they did with unofficial HDD drives.

Cheaper option would be to get this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.30585 works out at about £3.70 including postage from the states, I got mine about 6 months ago and it does the job it also came with a hdmi cable as well.

Problem is with the cheaper option, as already stated is like the component lead hack has the reset on channel switching problem which requires a resolder.

If you get a home theatre kit that supports HDMI audio then you will not need the dongle for the optical output and in fact in this day and age and with true HD sound its worth the investment if you intend on Blu Ray to get a supporting HDMI Audio receiver, as you cannot get uncompressed audio over optical/coaxial digital.

Do you mean when you press AV or HDMI button the 360 resets? My 360 does that with the official cable and adapter. Just a recent thing though, I think the last 360 update has triggered it.
I got this cable set included with my Elite (which only comes with composite now), I use the audio adapter with my Turtle Beach X1s.

I got one of thse free with my elite (back when they did them)

A decent HDMI cable and the optical unit for a tenner, I say its a good deal

I'm trying to make my setup look as tidy as possible, The hack is good for people that can be bothered, but I like the Optical unit

The product in this deal, is exactly what you need - the breakout box is part of the kit

No - the "unbranded" versions like the one from DealExtreme above, function identically to the Microsoft unit.
It's also worth pointing out that some displays will not reboot your XBox when using the hacked Component lead - it functions perfectly with some equipment.

Yeah...I just resent having to pay £10 just for that, when my PS3 (and PS2 for that matter!) has the optical port already. Doesn't seem fair.

May see if I can get a cheaper one somewhere.

Take it this would work with turtle beach XLC (the cheap ones)??

first msg - high 5 thank you please!
