First deal so be your normal selves. Been tracking these for months but they have been out of stock. 16gb wifi only version http://store.apple.com/uk/product/FD510B/A/refurbished-ipad-with-retina-display-wi-fi-16gb-black-4th-generation

iPad 3rd gen also available 32gb at £249 http://store.apple.com/uk/product/FC706B/A/refurbished-ipad-with-wi-fi-32gb-black-3rd-generation

With iOS upgrades likely (my own opinion not based on any fact) I wanted to upgrade by iPad 2 at a reasonable cost.

I suspect Apple have been holding these back until they can't deliver before Christmas. Earliest delivery for me was 2 Jan. Edit......delivery on Monday 30th!
Grab them quick.

Might as well pay £100 more and get the iPad Air 2 from Amazon. Why buy legacy equipment?

I find the Air's flimsy for young butter fingers but if you're willing to send me the extra £100 I'll cancel the order (_;)

If this was the air 1 then the extra £100 would be pointless however the gap from a 4 to an air 2 is large in all fairness

If it means waiting a couple of months id recommend saving the extra too if possible

people obsess on the specs but I have been using an ipad 2 for years now and I haven't found an app it won't run, never found it slow for Web surfing, iplayer or other day to day uses and the picture quality is fab. Paying another 100 for the Air 2 is madness in my view as you won't get that value back

I do find my 16GB iPad 2 starting to creak compared to my iPad 4 64GB.
Difficult to put finger on but just seems slower when switching between apps, scrolling through web pages etc. Moreso than the different CPU speeds would suggest.

Despite the RAM being separate from the storage I do think it is a function of low storage, the iPad 2 is always pretty much full with all the cached stuff that gets downloaded in the background for the kids games. I guess it runs out of breathing room. :-(

I agree with all of this, until you upgrade to iOS 8 and see planned obsolescence in action as your once fluid tablet becomes a time portal, with every screen press being delayed by a few seconds. Fortunately you can downgrade to iOS 7.x for a limited period.

Just hold an Air 2 and then let us know.

What a ridiculous statement, you are talking about a 42% difference. You could use that argument on just about anything on here saying pay X amount more and get an X instead.

You are a marketing dream for Apple and other companies who convince you to upgrade to the latest version when a previous version still has lots of life left in it and is perfectly capable.

Sorry cold from me. Spend a little more and get the air 1. Better chip and architecture.

How do you do that? We have an iPad 2, an iPad 3 and an Air 2 all on ios 8. The iPad's 2 & 3 do struggle and a downgrade would be a good option.

For the people criticising this deal, you are not quite understanding the build difference between the iPad and the iPad Air (either version - I've owned both). My 6 year old son has been using the iPad 2 for 3 years and apart from the odd (expected) scratch is as good as new.
If that had been an Air I very much doubt it would have lasted as long. The Air 2 is an improvement in solidity over the Air, which felt quite flimsy especially on the 'spongy' screen.

I'm sure the Air 3 (or the 'pro') will be perfect though ;)

well said. that's my plan mortgage paid off at 40! no loans or credit cards, and a bank balance in the black. the saving in interest will pay for these gadgets.
