Received an email from Printerland today to say as newsletter subscriber they would flog the OKI C3300n to me for £99 +VAT instead of £149 +VAT. Quick search seems to suggest this is a good price.

(Delivery is free if order value £125 +VAT, otherwise £6.50)

For this price just phone 0800 840 1992 and quote that you have received an email (signed Khalil Hussain)

I am quite sure that if you phone up and ask for it, you'll get it at the price. Give it a go! (and let us know!)

At about 15,000 pages you will need new black, cyan, magenta and yellow drums which will cost you about £100 +P&P (nearly as much as the printer)

At 30,000 pages you will need the drums again plus a £50 fuser unit, so it would be cheaper to replace the printer at 30,000 pages than to replace the drums and fuser (it is marginal at 15,000 pages).

Assuming you replace the drums at 15,000 pages and throw the printer away at 30,000 pages that is £114 + £6.50 (P&P) + £100 + £6.50 (P&P) = £227 + VAT in hardware (not including toner) to print 30,000 pages, so it's not too bad there at under 1p a page, but that's before toner costs.

Toners are quite small for this printer. I would expect the printer to be shipped with the smaller 1.5K page toners, so you will need at least 11 each of Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow refills or replacements for your 30,000 pages. If you buy the Oki ones at £59 each for a 2.5K page toner that would cost you about £2600 + VAT for your 30,000 pages which is about 10p a page for toner at 5% coverage, so not too bad.

Of course if you are using more than 5% coverage then the toner costs go up a lot but if you use third party toners and refill kits then you can bring the price down a lot as well. Even so, a total of 11p a page (plus paper cost) for 5% coverage for hardware and manufacturers toners is a pretty good deal.

Just be aware that if you do a lot more coverage that the number of pages will drop before you have to change those drums and the fuser - and that the cost of the hardware means that it's cheaper to buy a whole new printer than replace both fuser and drums at the same time.
