Ouch at over £600 for that even colder.
Gone up to £699 now
Seems an okay spec for the cash - do the cold voters have a link to a better deal please?
Was interested until I read that there are two versions of the Nvidia 740m. One is good and the other one poor (particularly on gaming). As far as I can see, there's no way if knowing what version of the card is fitted to this Sony laptop so I'll give this a miss...

Bought one about a month ago for about £10 less from Dabs. Excellent bit of kit.
Not sure what first comment is all about, looks like they got a bit excited writing it.
Can't comment on the next model up, didn't one of those.

so wrong!

play model is very poor compared to the wdtv live (about £15 more)

(no titlesheets, artwork, NAS facility, single vs dual usb, slower, sluggish remote, inferior Xvid and MKV file support etc etc)

its a no brainer to avoid the play model unless you only want a very basic media player in which case you might as well buy the sumvision cyclone for around £25

Edited By: csiman on May 28, 2013 07:25
I haven't compared it to the Live one at all!!
polly69
OP you're talking out your ****

I paid £49.99 for my Play from the BT shop and i also own the live streaming which is way better in pretty much every way first off this box does not downmix DTS so unless you own a amp there will be no sound on most HD media, which the live streaming does no issues and it also can't seem to play MP4 video infact it doesn't even see them which the live streaming can see and play this also doesn't have the movie info and posters and being able to view the trailers from the device and the nice interface that the live streaming has, you also can't delete media from a networked locations on the device which means you have to go to a PC to delete the media which the live streaming can. The worst thing though is if you pause a film/tv when you press play it will play for a few seconds then kick you back to the menu and doesn't remember when it stopped so if you don't know where you were up to you will be sitting there for ages seeking the right spot. I could go on and on but you get the picture do yourself a favour get yourself the live streaming for a bit more money its a way more capable box and i know as i own both of them.

The OP has obviously no clue about media streamers at all as he hasn't even noticed the many faults and he's comparing it to a box that he obviously has no clue about in the live streaming because if he did he would know that its way better, when i put my Play in i was very disappointed to the point i almost returned it its been stripped to the bone and even at £49.99 its to much the live streaming could be had for £15 more so its way over priced and with the price as it is now the live streamings only £5-£6 more the Play is a terrible buy. The WD live streaming is the best media streamer ive ever owned and ive owned Popcorn hours and alsorts i bought the Play to replace my Himedia 900b 3D streamer which had all the bells and whistles USB3 gigabit and can take a HDD but am going to be putting the Himedia back as its a 1000 times better than this Play, i expected something similar to the Live streaming but its nothing like it. Its crap.

Errrrrr... All I have done is post a deal for something that isn't cheaper anywhere else... I haven't spoken about any of the points you mention. I get that you think the Live one is better, but no need to **** me off.

I bought one, it does what I want it to, it was the cheapest one I could find... What's the issue?
If you buy a proper media streamer it will play any format, output any audio up to 7.1 via HDMI, give a great picture, and for not much more. We have had four different makes in the past, none of them are WD. You can get wifi and gigbit for not much more. We use a Himedia hd900b in the lounge and it will play anything so far. Use handbrake alot too to great effect for 1080p material.
Aeschylus
please dont, just pay the extra £10 for the WDTV live streaming box which is the model up from this and vastly superior in every sense

Absolutely this.

Been looking for something similar for my HTC One X over the last few days. Purchased a Ballistic SG case for £16.66 off ebay, although its coming from Germany its the cheapest I could find
for the s3/iphone these usually drop to around £10 every month or so in various colours. £20 seems pretty much the top end price.

So whilst this may be best price right now, hang on if you want a decent deal.

Anyone up for a mindless Intel versus AMD debate? Prerequisites, you must be mindlessly passionate about your chosen CPU manufacturer, you must not be able to discern fact from fiction and most of all you need to be able to spend a considerable amount of time opposing any objective viewpoints, you probably also believe that only songs that go to number one in the popular music chart are of any musical worth. Shall we start with Intel are better because....AMD are better because....My Dad is better than your Dad because...

Actually just shut up instead :)

The best processor out there, by far, is the Motorola 68000 microprocessor running at 7.15909 MHz that comes with an Amiga 500. Shadow of the beast 2 runs at 30FPS all the time. It's great.

They put one of those CPUs in the Atari ST, now whose best eh? ;)

Good monitor!

But I'd rather reccommend the Dell U2913WM, it's a spectacular monitor. Yes, it's 2560 x 1080, but all the games I play look beautiful on it.

As for latency, well I play BF3, DayZ, Arma 3 and I have no problems- as long as it's on gaming mode; still maul a$$ with it!

Like most people say, you can get x3 27" monitors for the same price- but what you get with the Dell is quality and I don't regret buying it over any other monitor at all!
Interesting, good price, however I think I prefer my 1440p, but heat added.
this makes a lot more sense on a monitor than a tv actually. if I didn't already own a 30 and a 27 I would be seriously looking at this! thanks op, mega heat from me!!

which X6 issue have they fixed?

I have an X6
- It feels a bit 'odd' like the keys are ever so slightly mis-spaced
- the macro keys and volume controls are very unresponsive, with a big delay between pressing and it doing anything
- the black rubs off the keys so you can't see the letters
- every so often the membrane inside moves a bit.. keys stop working and you have to open it up with a screwdriver and reseat the membrane.

(remembers when Microsoft made quality hardware)

The last 'bit about the membrane. The X4 doesn't have this issue.
You guys prefer this one or Logitech G105 @ £25.32 ?
Try ebay - look for filco or steelseries, both make decent mechs. Far superior imo
Tyranicus66
Membrane keyboard and serious gamer in the same sentence.

This is the hot hatch of keyboards, sports car it is not. Mechanical all the way imo however if your a normal user then this is great for the money.
where can I get a cheap one all my old old keyboards that were cheap were not membrane and I prefer them so much more.
What is this like for writing essays/reports? I like the idea of its gaming credentials but sadly I have work to do as well haha...

Old TN panel, 2x HDMI, 1x VGA... :/
Exactly, this is a very ordinary monitor - no reason to pay a premium. It has none of the premium features I would like to see, such as 16:10 format, higher resolution, wireless connection, power from the PC, better quality panel, rotating mount etc. Super cold.

Really!!! wireless connection.....power from PC..... & why on earth is 16:10 an improvement, It's pretty much a redundant format. Im agreed with above I dont think those first features even exist for commercial use.

It's just a very average deal not a hot deal.

Edited By: 1nsomniac on Jul 27, 2012 17:15
Awesome monitor. I have had mine awhile now. Paid £211 for it.

Its funny seeing this. I just replaced this monitor with the Acer GR235Hbmii/ET.VG5HE.009. Its a lot like this monitor but it can do 3D.

I paid £135.88 for it. I tried posting it on here as a deal but Scan are banned from this site so couldn't post it.

I won't post a link to the site (don't want to get banned) but if you do a google shop search for ET.VG5HE.009 you will be able to find it for £135.88.

Something I was looking for in a 3D monitor was if it had HDMI 1.4a so I could use AMD HD3D. The GR235Hbmii does. Looked everywhere for info about this and found none. I took a risk buying this without knowing, but it pay off as it does have hdmi 1.4a.

I used to own one and the colors where dull and don't get me started on the speaker
Got one of these from a PC World store when they went clearance for £80, hooked it up to my sky box as my tv broke and the HD is better than my old tv.
mamboboy
As I said earlier there's no 24" on the market with a higher res than 1920. And wtf... Wireless connection on a monitor? For what? And powered by the PC? does that technology even exist on full size monitors? Usb can barely even power those crappy desktop fans, let alone a 20w or so monitor!

No higher than 1920 no, but 1200 vs 1080 is a noticeable difference. One of my criteria for buying my last screen was it must have a 16:10 ratio. This monitor looks ordinary at best sadly, since it has a nice design

Great deal.
This is a hot deal - it was £2 cheaper at ebuyer earlier, but they're down to 1 in stock now and it's back to £229 there. It's tedious when people vote cold for such a small difference in price between deals - so petty. Abstaining would be a fairer choice.
This is very chep compared to other ssd deals, why so cold? Can anyone explain? Personally I'm waiting for the price to drop to 50p per GB before I buy a ssd, voted hot btw.

Nice price but out of stock :(
YOU DO NOT GET GHOSTING ON THESE SCREENS

there's afew reviews around that you do, but there's plenty of high speed triple screen videos of this panel on the internet showing that they reviews arn't true and that there's no ghosting. This is the EXACT same panel as in the DELL ultrasharp 23" also, which is £60 more!
Sucks that the 16:10 1920x1200 IPS monitors are expensive, i currently use a 16:10 monitor and would maybe like to upgrade it but i think i will have to go to 16:9 since im priced out the market.

I game a lot and use my pc for media too so i dont really need 16:10 but i still prefer it.

I heard this LG is decent for movies and gaming i never heard about ghosting on it at all. IPS panels do not have great response times to begin with but its not to the point where its terrible for gaming, the colour accuracy is most important on an IPS and the LG is good for the price. Want something better and your looking at over £200.

VOTED HOT, this place seems to get worse by the week, post up a good deal and people moan about it. The G.Skill ram thats been posted a few times including myself, brilliant ram but people moaned about the manufacturer which wasn't even a valid point because enthusiasts know G.Skill is reputable its like moaning about any IPS which isnt a Dell.
Ordered one from ebuyer when it was £147.
Just got an email to say that they were cancelling my order as none left in stock. This has been complained about before with ebuyer as it looks like they drop the price to get people interested then refuse to sell it for that price. I'll be steering clear of them now.

I bought this monitor, yes it uses a VA panel which does exhibit superior viewing angles and superb black reproduction, but mine suffered from a green tinge which could not be removed, if your'e not super picky about fleshtone colour you probably won't notice it, but I am and I did notice it, so did the reviewers on Tech Radar, also, because of the fantastic blacks, this monitor is very very bright, I had to reduce brightness levels from 100 down to 15, on gaming I had no noticable ghosting playing Black Ops & MOH, in fact this VA panel felt exactly like a TN panel in FPS games. Overall it's an impressive monitor on first acquaintance, but the colour reproduction was flawed on my sample and the ultra bright screen becaming tiring after awhile, this one's going back.

Hi, checked the image in full screen and it looked fine, no blurs or colour changes near the edge.

Do you own or play any fast paced games (i.e. first person shooters)? I'd like to know if you notice any ghosting or input lag.

Looks like a really nice laptop. This spec is £529 through Sony with a load more configuration options and a 5 week wait for delivery (where did they get the RRP of £599 from). Not saying this is a bad deal but perhaps not as good as they advertise it and some may think it's worth the extra £35 quid for the piece of mind of buying through Sony.

I'd def pay the extra £35 if I were to buy this, good price though.
